“Towards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: Unite to End Violence Against Women” The event carried out under the Promotion of Youth Engagement in Local Governance Process (PROYEL) Project played a central role in the 2024, #16DaysofActivism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Youth panels from Harion, Barathawa, and Kshireshwarnath municipalities, in collaboration with local governments, police, and civil society organizations, organized awareness programs to address GBV. These initiatives provided a platform for dialogue between right holders and duty bearers, helping participants understand the legal processes related to GBV. In addition, a six-point commitment was signed by youth, local government, and other stakeholders in Harion, emphasizing gender equality, zero tolerance for violence, and support for survivors. These efforts, combined with commitments from local government and Nepal police, encouraged communities to report GBV cases to the relevant authorities and service providers, fostering greater collaboration in the prevention and response to GBV. Furthermore, the project also supported in developing the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) policy in the same municipality. #noexcuse #EUYSB #youths #MadheshProvince #KarnaliProvince #EUinNepal #EuropeanUnion #HelvetasNepal #EUinternationalpartnerships

  • In the wake of the devastating rainfall on September 27, 2024, many affected families are still waiting for relief. While local governments have provided some basic support, there has been a crucial need for more extensive assistance. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Helvetas Nepal, with the generous financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), has swiftly mobilized its relief efforts, as it has done in the past. Coordinating closely with local governments, Helvetas has completed rapid assessments of the damage and initiated the distribution of essential relief materials. In particular, areas heavily impacted by landslides and floods in our operational regions are being prioritized. For example, in Panauti Municipality, Bagmati Province, Helvetas distributed essential food items, cooking utensils, hygiene kits (including soap, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, and toothpaste), and bedding to 500 households. In Phidim Municipality, Koshi Province, 95 households received food, hygiene supplies, first aid kits, and 390 tarpaulins. Furthermore, in Phalelung Rural Municipality, Koshi Province, 293 households were provided with food items, and 40 households with kitchen and hygiene supplies along with 586 tarpaulins. While this marks the first phase of our relief efforts, it is already addressing the immediate needs of the affected families. #HelvetasNepal #ReliefEfforts #SDC #DisasterResponse #LocalGovernment #FloodRelief #CommunitySupport
