The Green Transition is happening in Northern Sweden - there is not better conditions anywhere in Europe to create this transition. The industrial clusters together with the municipality of Luleå with their companies Luleå Energi, Luleå Harbour etc, and the region of Norrbotten is paving the way for a massive gren transition. It is not easy and it is not given and the conditions needs to be right for investment decisions. But if we do not all believe that this will happen and if we do not work together- it will not happen. Happy to participate today at the large conference hosted by the Chamber of Commerce in Norrbotten - “Norbottens handelskammare” to give mine and Uniper’s perspective on the Green Transition.

A week ago, I participated in a panel discussion at Dagens Industri conference about the electricity market of the future. The panel discussion was about how the electrification of the society is to be financed. As we all know, the electrification is crucial for the decarbonisation. That is why its so important to find financing solutions now! The design of the Nordic electricity market as a whole, including both grids and new supply, and the financing solutions must be competitive in a global context. There must be long term predictability to attract capital from lenders and investors at competitive cost level. I had a very interesting discussion on these topics with Åsa Pettersson, Johan Lindehag, Jessica Krook ♦️ and mårten einarsson

Uniper has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Liquid Wind to strategically develop production facilities for eFuels. Uniper has since many years invested and cooperated with Liquid Wind and we are now taking the next step in our cooperation. By combining Unipers strong position in delivering green electricity, hydrogen production, trading capabilities and strong asset owner and operator with Liquid Winds strong and unique eFuels asset development capabilities we are building a strong partnership to decarbonize the marine sector. Decarbonization of the transport sector and industry are key to reach the Net Zero targets. Especially in Sweden where the electricity system already is basically green and fossile free through our hydro, nuclear and wind production the focus is to decarbonize these sectors.

Interesting study from Rystad Energy for Norfund. The study suggests that the way to maximize avoided emissions per dollar invested is by investing in Renewable Energy in South Africa, India and Indonesia. This aligns 1:1 with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Growth Markets Fund strategy, where investments in South Africa, India and Indonesia is core to our strategy, and where we are looking to, and in the process of, making considerable new investments in renewable energy. At CIP, we are committed not only to make sound but investments into renewable energy, but also to make a positive climate impact. Our vision for the next decade is to build value that matters. And we have set ourselves the ambitious target of facilitating up to 1% of the global emission reductions required by 2030.

New day - new interesting panel discussion.    Yesterday, I was invited by the Swedish Ministry of Climate and Enterprise to participate in the Nordic conference on electricity market development and electrification, and be part of panel including also Lina Håkansdotter (Palm), Martin Johansson, Michelle von Gyllenpalm and Bård Standal. The panel was led by Markus Wrake    Our panel discussion focused on electricity market design and which policies that needs to be considered to achieve large scale electrification of the society. Here comes my assessment on what is needed:  1. The availability of sufficient affordable and secure supplies of carbon free electricity is essential if the Nordics wants to attract industrial investments while safeguarding the welfare of our households.  2. A balanced combination of all carbon free energy sources delivers the best electricity system - at lowest cost.  3. The nordic electricity markets needs an upgrade and a capacity mechanism could be a feasible way forward in order to incentivise new well needed capacity while keeping market and price signals in place.    #EnergyTransition #ElectricityMarkets #Sustainability #Fortum

Today had a presentation at Montel Group's Finnish Energy Day. I was given a topic "From coal to SMR. Transforming the energy supply of Helsinki" Our journey from coal to SMR can be seen very simply as changhing one technology to other. But reasoning is more complex and so is the journey as well. We have lived decades in fossil economy. It has quaranteed fairly steady and low energy prices. Climate change mitigation urges us to end the fossil economy era, but that does not happen without systemic change. At the moment new investments to power sector are directed to wind energy and solar power, and that results very volatile power market price. Volatility have considered not to be desirable and many misses the good old days with steady marketprices. Volatility is not a problem rather an opportunity! Our aim at Helen is to increase our flexibility cababilities via technology (like batteries), also better balancing our own production and consumption (electrification of heating brings huge potential) and digitalization (opportunities in treading and customer interface). But how about SMR's. Those we need in 30's when we aim to phase out combustion-based energy production by 2040.

Things are developing in our electricity industry, and here are my SEVEN ELECTRICITY TAKEAWAYS from the Norwegian industry meeting place at #Arendalsuka: 1) Energy efficiency has immense potential – we can cut tens of TWh and hardly notice it (no loss of welfare or impact on quality of life) 2) Local energy communities can supplement and strengthen the power system and motivate us all to contribute 3) Flexibility in industrial energy consumption plays a crucial role in balancing the power system, allowing room for the new advances we want to achieve. In #SnerpaPower we help make this happen - check us out https://lnkd.in/dsGMETJh 4) Cooperation is key️ – between grid companies, sectors and industries. Working together is essential. ElBits is making progress. The Energikoordinator pilot project is promising, but I wonder why it has not just been implemented across the industry (do we need to pilot everything?). Initiatives like CINELDI/SecurEl and other R&D partnerships are key to drive us forward. 5) Digitalisation will not create green energy, but it’s crucial for enabling the green energy transition. With more and better data, and increased computing power, we have unprecedented opportunities for doing a better job. 6) Protecting and restoring nature is becoming increasingly important , further emphasizing the need to not waste energy and optimize existing resources. Knowledge, awareness and action plans for nature conservation are moving forward and will develop further. 7) Questioning growth? Not many question growth from the big scenes in Arendal, but it is not weird anymore to do so, and it is much more common. As the planetary boundaries are close (or surpassed) , we must think outside the box and take radical steps to consume less resources. What will the effect be on Norwegian industry, energy policies and future developments? How will Norway position itself for the future?

It is not a question of either or, because it is possible to have both. Co-location, also known as agrivoltaics or dual-use solar, is defined as agricultural production, such as crop or livestock production or pollinator habitats, underneath solar panels or adjacent to solar panels. In a same way wind farms can coexist with outdoor activities such as berry picking and hunting. The reindeer also seem very comfortable in wind farms and even during construction phase. Renewable energy production enables not only the clean transition, but also new possibilities. Cooperation is the key here, like in so many other things. We have today published our results for Q1 2024. This year started off relatively well, but the unexpected political strikes in Finland impacted us severely. We regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused our customers. For us, the strikes did have material financial consequences, which is why our adjusted EBITDA amounted to 38 million euros for the first quarter. Outokumpu has made solid progress with strategy execution and have met our targets ahead of schedule – but the work is not done. We need to push for more performance improvement measures. This is necessary to overcome the continued tough market conditions and to recover from the strike losses. #sustainablesteel #choosestainless #outokumpu #stainlesssteel

WEO 2024 16 Oct 2024 Report launch World Energy Outlook 2024 Background information The IEA's flagship World Energy Outlook (WEO), published every year, is the most authoritative global source of energy analysis and projections. It identifies and explores the biggest trends in energy demand and supply, as well as what they mean for energy security, emissions and economic development.   The WEO covers the whole energy system, using a scenario-based approach to highlight the central choices, consequences and contingencies that lie ahead. It also illustrates how the course of the energy system might be affected by changing key variables, including the energy policies adopted by governments around the world.   Against a backdrop of escalating risks in the Middle East and heightened geopolitical tensions globally, this year’s report will explore the world’s rapidly evolving energy security challenges, including in areas such as oil and gas supplies, the electricity sector, critical minerals and rising threats from extreme weather events, as well as energy access and affordability issues.   The WEO 2024 will also examine whether the world is on track to meet its net zero goals and the obstacles hindering more rapid clean energy transitions.
