Not only is CCS a solution for achieving climate goals – it’s an opportunity to drive value creation and create jobs. Europe urgently needs more CO2 storage capacity to meet the Paris Agreement commitments, and cross-border CCS projects will be essential to scaling this technology. According to a study from SINTEF and Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU), the market for CO2 management in Europe could potentially involve 30,000 to 40,000 jobs directly linked to CO2 management in 2030, and from 80,000 to 90,000 in 2050. And as our Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland, stated at this year’s Summit: "By capturing and permanently storing CO2 from hard-to-abate industries, we will not only sustain crucial value creation but also secure new jobs and develop skill sets for future generations." Congratulations to Heidelberg Materials on achieving mechanical completion! Another major milestone in the journey towards a full-scale CCS value chain. As one of three industrial partners in the Northern Lights project, Heidelberg is demonstrating great leadership in addressing industrial emissions. Together, we are part of the Norwegian government's Longship project, working to establish the most significant climate initiative in Norwegian history. During our recent Summit, Giv K. Brantenberg, General Manager at Heidelberg Materials Northern Europe stated: "Thanks to nearly 20 years of strong government support throughout various stages of development, we were selected as the partner to capture CO2 for Northern Lights in September 2020. And we are super proud of that.” We look forward to continuing this important collaboration and to receiving the first volumes of CO2 at Øygarden in 2025. This week our Director of Communications & Political and Public Affairs, Benedicte Staalesen, participated at the European Parliament Breakfast “The Success and Struggles of CCS in Europe: Towards a European single market for CO2”, hosted by CCS Europe. The event served as a platform for bridging industry and policy-makers, emphasising the critical role CCS plays in achieving Europe's climate goals. Cross-border cooperation is truly crucial in building a common European CCS market. Northern Lights are thankful for the continued support in Europe, with CEF funding of €131 million, confirming our role in achieving EU’s 2030 decarbonisation objectives. This week, we had the honor of hosting His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, accompanied by a Dutch business delegation and one of our key partners, Yara International, at our Øygarden receiving facilities. Northern Lights' mission is to enable reduction and removal of European industrial CO2 emissions. The visit highlighted the importance of European collaboration and knowledge sharing in achieving climate goals. Yara Sluiskil being one of our pioneering commercial partners, underscores the robust partnership between Norway and the Netherlands in advancing CCS solutions. We want to thank His Majesty and everyone in the delegation for asking engaging questions and contributing to great discussions. Northern Lights is grateful for the visit. Today, we have two commercial agreements: one with Yara in the Netherlands to capture and store 800,000 tonnes of CO2 from ammonia production in Sluiskil, and one with Ørsted to store 430,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 emissions per year from two power plants in Denmark. Both are set to start in 2026. #NorthernLightsCCS #CarbonManagement Royal House of the Netherlands | Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei | Energidepartementet (Norge) | Sophie Hermans | Lubna Jaffery | Astrid Bergmål | Embassy of the Netherlands in Norway | Michael Schlaug | Tim Heijn | Benedicte Staalesen | Tom Georg Indrevik | Marianne Olsnes | Michel Ziad Hajjar | Martijn Smit | Henning Eide | Knut Bakke | Shell | Equinor | TotalEnergies

How do we build trust in the evolving CCS-industry? Our Managing Director Tim Heijn recently attended Havtil - Havindustritilsynet's top leader conference on building trust in the CCS sector. While Norway has long experience with safe CO2 injection and storage, Northern Lights marks doing this as a service open to industrial emitters looking to decarbonise. Trust is vital for projects of this scale and ambition, especially when aiming for a cooperative European approach. So, how can we strengthen trust within this evolving industry? 📍Cross-border collaboration: Norway’s geology offers ideal storage solutions, but the sources of emissions span across Europe. This requires seamless cooperation across borders. 📍Understanding diverse needs: Each partner has unique timelines and priorities. 📍Building on strengths: Leveraging Norwegian and European expertise. 📍Flexibility for customers: Adapting to client needs where possible. 📍Transparent communication: Open, respectful, and constructive dialogue is vital. With significant support from leaders across Europe, including our own Government, we’ve already been entrusted with high expectations. Delivering on that trust is both our responsibility and our driving force. #NorthernLightsCCS #CO2storage Tim Heijn | Havtil - Havindustritilsynet
