🌍 Why are representatives from the U.S. visiting our region to learn more about the decarbonization of ferry transport and port operations? Over the past few days, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting 🇺🇸 Consul General Heidi Olufsen, Consul Kjell Erik Brekke, and esteemed representatives from ports and ferry operators on the U.S. East and West Coasts. Together, we explored Norway’s pioneering innovations in 🌱 green maritime technology and ⚓ sustainable port operations. The program kicked off in Stavanger 🚢, where we introduced our guests to the groundbreaking MS Medstraum, the 🌎 world’s first zero-emission fast ferry. Lyse, STAVANGERREGIONEN HAVN IKS (PORT OF STAVANGER), and Kolumbus AS shared insights on building charging infrastructure, while Blueday Technology AS demonstrated it in action. Norled AS showcased Hydra 💧, the world’s first liquid hydrogen-powered ferry, along with SHIFTR , an innovative battery swap system 🔋. Eksfin - Export Finance Norway also discussed financing options 💼, supporting sustainable solutions for international buyers of Norwegian green-tech exports. Next, we moved to Haugesund 🌊, where our guests explored the forefront of autonomous subsea technology 🤖. At Remota, we saw advancements in remote operations and sustainable subsea solutions, led by Reach Subsea, DeepOcean, and Remota’s own control center. The group also visited Husøy Cargo Terminal, where KARMSUND HAVN (Karmsund Port Authority) and Havnekraft demonstrated how they optimize shore power ⚡ to reduce emissions. Offshore wind 🌬️ was covered by Norwegian Offshore Wind and Haugesund Windport, highlighting Norway’s contributions to renewable energy. Finally, in Stord, MS Medstraum took center stage again with presentations from the EU Horizon project manager Maritime CleanTech and key suppliers, including Wärtsilä, Servogear AS, and Fjellstrand AS. We also heard from Zinus AS and the Sustainable Energy Norwegian Catapult Centre and took an insightful tour of the Energy House to see sustainable energy innovations up close. 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to our collaboration partners and, of course, to our U.S. delegates for their interest and commitment to sustainable transport.
