Jacomijn Vels, global head of sustainable finance, Arash Mojabi, UK lead – sustainable finance, Timothy Rahill, credit strategist at ING Research, and Tim van Pelt, global lead batteries and charging met with journalists and industry experts to discuss key topics. These included: 🌱 Perspectives on the 2024 global sustainable finance market –ING gave a Q1 market update, providing colour to the global issuance of sustainable finance products including green bonds, sustainability-linked loans, and other forms of green finance 🔋 Battery Gigafactories – We explored the trend of battery gigafactories and their impact on the future of sustainable manufacturing. ING brings such an approach via its Sustainable Value Chains team and has taken a leading role in the financing of battery gigafactory blocks in Europe. As digital integration advances, incorporating pension data into banking apps could transform how we manage our retirement savings. Consumer-approved data sharing would make pension data as accessible as a bank balance, giving participants more control. In addition to personalized notifications based on peer decisions—like opting for partial retirement—pension funds could also provide insights on projected pension income, helping participants make more informed choices about their retirement. With the European Financial Data Access (FiDA) regulation on the horizon, it’s essential to consider both the opportunities and challenges. FiDA could expand access to financial data, but questions remain about how pension providers will use this data and which funds will be subject to the regulation. There are also concerns around privacy and the risk of financial exclusion, particularly regarding sensitive data like disability pensions. Yesterday another European Women Payments Network (EWPN) meetup of #payments #femtech and male supporting crew Betaalvereniging Nederland (Dutch Payments Association) - thank you Gijs Boudewijn. Good panel session on #b2bpayments with Worldpay, PayPal, Mastercard and ING Nederland. Interesting how the champions of user experience and speed enter the more complex b2b space. And how banks now have the opportunity to go from mere payment (type... why does anyone want to know which rail your payment runs on?) to full 'best route transaction'. Always the optimist and passionate lover of the b2b space, the PSPs can do so much for the SMEs and banks can really move towards a full circle service offering rather than siloed products. Sure we can moan about the pace of change, but do clients always move so much faster??? Banks, brace yourself and claw back the client, embed services around invoicing, receivables, liquidity, cash forecasting and forex in your 'channel' - read: relationship. PSPs can offer a lot of instant insight in payments and receivables by going swiftly deeper with data driven dashboard for the SME, who - by the way- are not a 'segment', but the backbone of our economy. Investment money is focused on the b2b space, find your niche and go for it! And always remember, the Dutch - very happy, satisfied market - is one of the hardest to crack with innovation, efficiency is beating you to it. And as such therefore a great testbed for those who dare.
