This time Netherlands Ministerie van Defensie is joining other #EU MoDs and national development agencies to facilitate access to funding for #defence #DualUse and #security innovations. Our fund Coinvest Capital was the first in the region, fully authorised to invest in pure #defense already back in March 2023, shortly joined in April by Baltic Sandbox Ventures with #DeepTech focus and the launch of dual-use accelerators by ScaleWolf in October. Just our fund alone already coinvested 6.8mEUR in #aerospace and #defense, including one of the largest regional #VC rounds in Unmanned Defense Systems. We recently touched on how to pick the best European country to incorporate your startup. To continue that discussion, I’d like to tell you about a few European countries that offer residence permits through their Startup Visa programs. Here are some worth considering: 🇳🇱 1. Netherlands: Their program grants a one-year residence permit to startup founders, with the option to extend it later as a self-employed. To qualify, you need an innovative business plan and must work with a recognized facilitator, like a business incubator. I'll share some details with you later. 🇪🇪 2. Estonia: The Startup Visa allows entrepreneurs to develop their projects and hire foreign workers. To be eligible, your startup should show a high level of innovation and growth potential. 🇫🇮 3. Finland: They offer a Start-up Permit for foreign entrepreneurs, allowing them to work in Finland while building innovative projects. The application is assessed based on your business plan and growth potential. 🇵🇹 4. Portugal: With the Startup Visa program, founders get a residence permit to grow their projects in Portugal. Your project needs to be innovative and have the potential to create jobs. 🇪🇸 5. Spain: Spain’s "Entrepreneur Visa" program offers a residence permit for startup founders. Your startup should contribute to the country’s economy and be innovative. 🇫🇷 6. France: The French Tech Visa program is designed for startup founders, investors, and employees of tech companies. To qualify, you’ll need an innovative business plan and approval from the French Tech program. 🇱🇹 7. Lithuania: Lithuania’s Startup Visa is available for entrepreneurs looking to launch their innovative business in the country. You need to demonstrate both growth potential and an innovative business model. 🇮🇪 8. Ireland: The "Start-up Entrepreneur Programme" offers a residence permit to those who plan to invest in innovative business projects in Ireland. These are just a few countries with similar programs. Forget the cheap X1 Carbon. Let me introduce the X1 Gold! No, it's not a new model we've created under pressure from our beloved resellers to improve margins. It's a creation by Hendrik Vogelpohl (AKA hen3drik) that he shared on his Instagram. Hen3drik is a specialist in 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, a post-processing technique that gives 3D prints a metallic look. It involves handling chemicals and requires a certain level of expertise. But the result is stunning. Since the advent of FDM 3D printing, we've seen various ways to improve the visual appearance of 3D prints, with varying degrees of success. Advances in materials or print quality still haven't achieved the perfect cosmetic finish. Maybe one day? Until then, post-processing remains crucial. Interesting post about the difference between the big upstarts in the US versus the EU. I think regulation is indeed one of the killers. I have been setting up some new startups in the Netherlands recently. Even before we set up an entity, I got nausea from the way the tax system works. Trying to tax 'value growth' of an early stage startup, making it practically impossible to transfer shares without paying taxes is not a great incentive. I was glad to have attended the recent event hosted by our Plug and Play Netherlands team with AmCham. It was a real pleasure to meet so many interesting "innovators". I had a great time and engaging discussions. We saw a lot of interest in open innovation from companies across all industries aiming to innovate further, more efficiently and faster. Most of them are already collaborating with startups but are still interested in increasing their ROI from their open innovation activities. In terms of tech focus areas, the highest interest was in Sustainability and having AI impacting the business in a tangible way. 🚀 #PNPTCNetherlands #Sustainability

**FuelCellsWorks Exclusive: How Brineworks Is Making E-Fuel Production More Affordable** Amsterdam-based startup Brineworks has recently secured €2 million in funding, led by VC firm Pale blue dot, to drive down the cost of e-fuel feedstocks. This investment highlights the growing confidence in Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) technology and its potential to transform the e-Fuel arena. Brineworks' seawater electrolysis technology enables sustainable and affordable extraction of CO2 and H2 from the ocean. This is key for achieving large scale e-Fuel production and decarbonizing highly emitting industries like maritime and aviation. The startups' recent seawater electrolyzer developments have set a new standard for CO2 extraction, with a clear path to under $100 per ton, compared to $230 – $630 per metric ton of CO2 for Direct Air Capture according to the International Energy Agency. "Current CO2 capture methods, whether from industrial sources or Direct Air Capture, are either not sustainable, too limited in scale, or too costly," said Gudfinnur Sveinsson, CEO of Brineworks. "Brineworks offers an alternative that is sustainable, scalable, and cost-effective, making e-Fuel scale-up for the maritime and aviation industries a real possibility." Brineworks' seawater electrolyzer provides a clean, decentralized, and self-sufficient energy solution, capable of powering engines without relying on the grid or being affected by geopolitical conflicts over fossil fuel supplies. This is true energy sustainability. "What if any nation in the world could make sustainable oil from renewable electricity and seawater alone? We think Brineworks found the key to that," added Hampus Jakobsson, General Partner at Pale blue dot. This new investment will help Brineworks, co-founded by Gudfinnur Sveinsson and Dr. Joseph Perryman, accelerate its technical development and will be key to deploying its first technical pilot project.
