"Producing in Europe doesn't make you directly 100% sustainable" Today, an article was published in Het Financieele Dagblad. They interviewed me regarding sustainable production and the trend that clothes from Portugal are in high demand. I shared with them the important lesson we have learned with Manufy: that #nearshoring (manufacturing close to home) is a good initiative, but it's only part of what fashion brands could do to become more sustainable. Shifting your production location alone is not nearly enough. In our belief, Fashion Brands should implement practices that in the long run lead to circularity within their brand, and the fashion industry as a whole. We see that brands are struggling with the steps they consider. For instance, they are not aware of what is possible and what is financially feasible, or what even increases direct profit margins while decreasing their footprint! This limits renewal and innovation. Cooperation between different healthcare organizations is also less efficient. Patients themselves have limited control over their own data. As a result, healthcare organizations are, as it were, still hostage to data and outdated EHRs. They often still have their own EHR that is specifically adapted to the organization and often intertwined with the system that supports the healthcare processes. With the Dutch Integraal Zorg Akkoord, which was drawn up last September in mind, these different care packages are now still being linked together. In practice, however, this is proving difficult, costly and not sufficiently scalable for what the sector needs to be future-proof. openEHR (open Electronic Health Record ) is an internationally embraced standard for building healthcare IT systems. Problem 1: no imagination - no spatial relations, dynamic, speed awareness Problem 2: energy scarcity and overloaded energy networks Solution: synergy energy vision. 1. Start with the network - and keep production and use as LOCAL as possible. In Peppelhof, Eykelenbosch and Hermanus Hoeve, Limburg we do off-grid with solar and biomass. 48V DC. Appliances are bought in caravan and boating shops. 2. Take a local source (solar, gravity, biomass, water temperature difference, etc) and involve a technology of differences. 3. Earthquake-resistant buildings have been off-grid powered with modern gravity this way (not by us, but credit goes to the Politecnico Torino). 4. Gravity is an abundant resource. Earthquake resistance means a little movement (in the example, it was bamboo), they connected piezo electronics and used the pressure of the roof. 5. Nature always creates matter with differences and transformations! 🥰 Photosynthesis e.g. creating sugars, oxygen, cellulose, green leaves, etc. Trading with fungi inside the soil for water. Green chemistry economy... No wonder our ThinkTank is called Abundanism. Always go to what's abundant and use that. My desire is health! Health! Health! And yes, in my time I worked with sooooooooo many people who admired Le Petit Prince. Go Go Go young ones... What we could do since the 1970s you can do now easier with AI. We had no internet. You have democratised education... 😂😂😂 We did it! You can do it too... A MEDIA COLUMN - ENERGY The world wants to use less coal but uses more. The only solution? LOCAL SOURCES and small interconnected grids. Electronics (48V DC) and changing the transformations to other places than we do now. We lose to much energy. We store to much energy. We don't do as nature would do. Local sources? In NL, we already applied heat exchangers in sheet pile walls of harbour and canals (company Crux). We also applied heat exchangers from earth water in further mining area (company Mijnwater). DIY, on our off-grid farms Peppelhof, Eykelenbosch and Hermanushoeve, we applied solar and wood gassing from our abundance food and resource forest (39 ha for 39 self-sustaining families). Rocket stoves and more. In Belgium, Blue Earth Innovation (biomimicry engineering company) is applying Nikola Tesla's patents for Free Energy on a heritage-listed estate. In Spain (canary island El Hierro), they have solar roads directly connected to the cars. In theory, you can outphase batteries and lithium mining this way. What are the biggest hurdles? 1. You have to use energy when you produce it. No storage. 2. Laws are hindering progress. Off-grid is forbidden in NL and it is still a huge fight with the law. Laws are just made for big companies and set in stone. Not for citizens wanting to live cheap with what nature provides. 3. Nothing is agile in our man made world. Everyone is just protecting their cashcows. 4. Low voltage DC appliances (fridge, freezer, hairdryer, cooking equipment, computers, etc) are hard to get in normal stores. You have to shop in boating or caravan stores... And when you do...? Life opens up to new possibilities and immense innovations. Free for all. Because nature does the work for us... Great article in FD last Friday on the importance for large corporates of working with startups! Every company should look for start-ups to increase its innovative power,' says Hans Söhngen, and I couldn't agree more! Whether this is seeking for investment opportunities from you own Cooperate VC, or through the Venture Client model finding partnerships and pilots. 99% of innovation is happening outside the 4 walls of your own company, so going out there, to simply not miss out, should be a given. However, knowing what to look for, finding the best of the best problem-solution matches, and actually having this result in real partnerships, pilots and this impact is the real challenge. Lot's of resources go to waist through pet projects and innovation theater, resulting in disappointment and scepticism amongst the startups on the virtues of working with the large corporates. So, don't just go out there Googling your way through the startup ecosystem, pushing "solutions". But: - Do create a real internal community of innovators, bringing you the real briefs on problems to be solved and opportunity areas to be explored. - Go out there in a structured and professional way to match the best-of-the-best solutions with these briefs. - Don't stop until you find a solutions actually resulting in a pilot, partnership or investment with actual impact impact. - And ....... get help in organizing yourself doing this and finding the real solutions to your biggest problems. https://lnkd.in/eyMF8_fX
