While she was looking up information about SAFe, she encountered a website about the SAFe Summit, which in turn led her to stumbling across our RTE Summit website. As Lisa was a starting RTE at the time, she felt that the RTE Summit would hold more relevance for her than the SAFe Summit. “Because I was not that experienced as an RTE at the time (I had only been an RTE for about a year) and I was the only RTE in my company, I didn’t have anyone to actually spar with,” explained Lisa. As such, Lisa decided it would be good for her to expand her horizons and meet up with fellow RTEs from outside of Denmark who had more years of experience under their belts. Before she knew it, Lisa had her very first ticket to our RTE Summit -- the first of many, as she’d later learn! “All my hopes and expectations about the RTE Summit came true after the first time, so that was a good thing! That’s why I kept coming back,” noted Lisa.

3 Ways to Get Into Marketing (Without A Degree)

When I was applying for college, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life career-wise. Marketing wasn’t something I heard or knew anything about at the time, even though I now know that it would have aligned perfectly with all of my interests. All I knew back then was that programming was an option, because that’s what both of my parents studied when they were my age. I also knew that I could become a doctor, a lawyer, a scientist, and a number of other things that I had grown up to believe were traditionally “good” career choices. But what could I possibly do with my interest in and love for writing, promotion, socializing, and social media? Everyone in my life at the time – from career advisors, to guidance counselors, to family members, to friends – encouraged me to pursue a degree in anything but these areas. They told me to get a traditionally “useful” degree. Foolishly, I listened to them, rather than doing my own research. Because if I did even just a bit of sleuthing online, I would have discovered that marketing was the career for me.
But, instead of pursuing a degree in a marketing-related topic, I found myself starting a bachelor’s degree in business economics, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in international relations, and finishing my studies with a master’s degree in political science. Amidst all those studies, I caught myself thinking about one thing: what will I do after I graduate? The answer to that question ended up being simple: marketing. And, let me tell you: I have been loving every moment of it since!
To this day, people often ask me: “How did a background in business economics and political science open doors for you in the world of marketing?” My answer is always quite simple: it didn’t. At least not in the traditional sense.

Have you ever spent hours creating the perfect resume and cover letter for a job you were interested in, only to receive a standardized rejection letter in response a few weeks later? Or worse — did you go through all that effort, only to get completely ignored by the company? This is the harsh reality most of us endure in the current market. Qualified candidates are plentiful, jobs are scarce, and the effort employers and recruiters direct towards interacting with applicants is declining.
However, despite job rejection being a regular occurrence for many people, it can still be difficult to cope with. People beat themselves up over rejection, wondering what they could have done to be better. They start to undervalue themselves, convince themselves there must be something inherently wrong with them, and often lose faith in the process. Does this sound like you? I know that I was in that boat for the longest time until I finally learned how to properly confront job rejection. Keep reading for four ways to effectively respond to job rejection: understanding why it isn’t the end of the world, how you can approach it, and how you can channel that rejection into fuel for applying for your next opportunity. -

Naturally social creatures, we bond with those whom we share mutual interests and similar backgrounds. We depend on these relationships to get us through life — to make us feel as though we are a part of something greater. But what happens when you grow up feeling like you don’t belong? What happens when you can’t escape the dread of feeling like an outsider, no matter how hard you try to fit in? These questions are bound to cross the mind of many college students, particularly those who’ve spent their lives moving around or growing up in a location different from where they were born. And while I thought these particular questions rarely seemed to cross my own mind, I’ve realized this is exactly how I’ve felt my whole life.

The possibilities they would have if they didn’t have to go to school or work for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Well, guess what? Starting college is an exciting time in a young adult’s life, often paired with moving out of the home they’ve lived in for the last 18 years. I moved out of my parents’ house when I was 18 years old, traveling 400 miles south of the city I grew up in and starting anew in a region I knew hardly anything about. At 19, I took a leap of faith and made a move to study abroad in a country 6,000 miles away. At 21, I returned to that country — all by myself — with nothing but some suitcases and an urge to jump out of my comfort zone. So you can trust me when I say this: I know firsthand how painful dealing with homesickness is. But you can also trust me when I tell you that it is doable, and not nearly as difficult as people leaving home for the first time seem to think. That’s why I’m here today to give you some tips on overcoming the homesickness that’s suddenly come over you. -

So they sent out their applications and picked the school that had the coolest-looking mascot. Others are incredibly passionate about advancing their knowledge about a certain topic they’ve been interested in since they were in middle school. So they enrolled in that amazing undergrad program where they’d be working with the highest-ranked faculty who’ll teach them the in’s and out’s of their field of interest.
But at the end of the day, each of us has our very own reason for going to university. Let me tell you what all of us — regardless of what we think our reason is — should be going to university for. -
Working in Retail: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

College is the time where we make new friends, learn about things that we find interesting, and see what lies outside the confines of our tiny high school’s walls. Unfortunately, all the newfound freedom brought about by college comes at a price — and by that, I mean an actual price tag. Nothing in this world is free, and much to the dismay of us college students, that hits hardest when we finish up with high school and head into the real world.

Unfortunately, all the newfound freedom brought about by college comes at a price — and by that, I mean an actual price tag. Nothing in this world is free, and much to the dismay of us college students, that hits hardest when we finish up with high school and head into the real world.
So, how do we cope with this harsh reality that everything we want/need costs money? Why, we get part-time jobs, of course! And retail jobs just happen to be some of the most common ones out there.
When I first started college, I worked all sorts of jobs: everything ranging from babysitting, to tutoring, to freelance web design projects, to working at a library. But it wasn’t until the summer before my senior year that I dove into the world of retail and, let me tell you — what I saw wasn’t pretty.
I know that there are plenty of people who have had absolutely amazing experiences working in retail, but it seems that most people can agree with me when I say that this job is one of the most brutally painful experiences of a person’s life (and probably not for the reasons that initially come to mind). I want to share with you some of what I encountered while working for a couple of different retail stores over the course of one summer. -

As college students, we constantly get to deal with a barrage of such questions. We know that the pressure to succeed is real, and we know that we’re at a point in our lives where it feels like one tiny decision is bound to prove permanently life-altering. Given this intense pressure being put on us by peers, parents, and professors, it’s understandable why so many college students suffer from or are at risk for developing depression, a mental disorder which affects about 1 in 20 Americans. -

QUOTES
“I've never done anything with LinkedIn. Because I think as many people, I had the belief that like LinkedIn is just where you paste your resume. You say I'm humbled to announce my new job, things like that. But I was like, No, there's got to be something more to it.” – Marina Krivonossova
“Networking is huge here. And I mean, currently the company for whom I work, we organize, you know, a few annual conferences, we always place a huge emphasis on networking and the networking opportunities we offer. And we know our clients are extremely keen on that, they want to meet other people in their industry in similar industries, just in other industries, and networking is a huge thing for them.” – Marina Krivonossova
“You should really just push past the initial awkwardness of starting to post and start posting about what you're interested in, I would really say that you don't even have to pick a specific field of interest at the beginning, you should just start posting and see what feels comfortable.” – Marina Krivonossova

Helping him expand on his ideas and ensure that the book was perfectly polished, I spent several weeks working closely with Joe to ensure that the final product was a masterpiece (and it is -- find out for yourself!)

Stand Up for Human Rights: Podcast

I created a podcast (Stand Up for Human Rights) in collaboration with GHRD in which I featured guests to speak with me on topics pertaining to human rights. The purpose of our podcast was to shed light on human rights issues around the world, as experienced and learned about by individuals within different areas of life. The podcast was extremely short-lived, at only one season of four episodes. It was a very fun and interesting project to undertake, but unfortunately, it proved to be much too…
I created a podcast (Stand Up for Human Rights) in collaboration with GHRD in which I featured guests to speak with me on topics pertaining to human rights. The purpose of our podcast was to shed light on human rights issues around the world, as experienced and learned about by individuals within different areas of life. The podcast was extremely short-lived, at only one season of four episodes. It was a very fun and interesting project to undertake, but unfortunately, it proved to be much too time-consuming for something that I was doing for free on the side, alongside my other work and volunteer projects. I hope that despite my departure from the podcast, GHRD continues to keep conversations going around this incredibly important topic.
