In Canoe, we have pledged to work daily on creating a future for those we love. That means helping our customers with a people-centered approach to change. I am very happy to co-write this article with Jan van der Kaaij for IMD on how to bring life to sustainability strategies using principles from design thinking. https://lnkd.in/d3jDn_dG #sustainability #canoe #strategy

Nostalgia is a guiding influence for future thinking; it connects us to our human values, memories, and aesthetics in an age of fast change. Looking back to look forward is one of the driving forces that shaped Vision 2026's four drivers of change. If you would like some more info, let me know!

What is the best way to navigate creativity? Is it with creative disobedience, like Gijs van den Berg? Or embracing the tools of tomorrow, like Aurora Straton? Or adapting to change in order to lead, like Viv Greywoode? Perhaps they all are. Perhaps it is like Laura Visco proposed: growth is personal. In such a virtual focused age like today, I constantly ask myself what is the inherent value of going in person to events like Agents of Change from ADCE - Art Directors Club of Europe. I always come back to the same answer: human connection. “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”: a person is a person because of other people. It is because of feeling connected to other perspectives that I can reflect on these topics and decide on how I want to grow as a creative.

For the visual identity of Krusta Amsterdam, we created an innovative audio-reactive typography tool that generates type patterns and layouts based on sound. And then we said, "Yeah, it's cool but what if...?". We took this framework a step further by integrating it with an AI model, as shown in the video below. This project allowed us to demonstrate once again how the synergy between design and technology can produce extraordinary results and tell stories in entirely new dimensions. Kruuuuuuuuustaaaaaaa.

Great topic. Thanks for the episode, Marc Fonteijn and Joe Macleod. Your (one's) company/client probably doesn't care much about endings because they "know" things will never end (or they know someone else is responsible for cleaning up the mess). But it's worth thinking about, planning for, designing for, and having the possible endings inform how you begin. #serviceDesign #productDesign #ux https://lnkd.in/gmEnSsY5

When I studied Industrial Design in the 1990s, I think you could count all the flavours of design on one hand. Over time, our profession evolved, and with it, the flavours of design grew exponentially and found their way far beyond the purely creative realm. I met up with Marco Aurisicchio at the Imperial College London last Wednesday, and we talked about the different methods and design approaches that exist today to address global, climate and social challenges. Marco created a list of emerging and more mainstream design approaches, with Life-Centered Design being one of them. Are you missing something, or is this list already too long, and should you focus on our task? Just Design #design

Reigniting our valuable service design community - that’s our goal as the Dutch Chapter of the Service Design Network - with the help of Birgit Mager. With a great Meetup on Design Research with Geke van Dijk and Elisa Maira completed 😍, we’re ready to take the next plunge! As a SDN Chapter, we love putting our own Dutch thought leaders in the spotlight, but simultaneously don’t want to limit ourselves to the borders of our own tiny country. We love to expand our boundaries, because there’s just so many interesting perspectives out there! So therefore, we are proud to announce… 🥁🥁🥁 SDN PairUps, a brand new virtual meetup series! 🤝 In every episode of this new series, two thought leaders in the field of service design are invited and paired up – one from the Netherlands, one from elsewhere. The two guests will deep dive into a shared service design topic (e.g. ‘Service Implementation’, ‘Service Prototyping’ or ‘Journey Management’) and explore the similarities and differences between their perspectives. Let’s expand our boundaries! Different backgrounds. Different perspectives. Different ideas. We will announce our first PairUp and guests in the coming weeks. And the good news is that it will not only be available for our Dutch community, but for everyone to join! We would also love to know what you would love to see and hear during these PairUps! What topics would you love to have discussed? Who should we definitely invite as a guest (both Dutch and non-Dutch)? Any questions you think we should ask? Leave your thoughts in the comments 👇👇👇

In the fifth episode of the ATÖLYE Insights Podcast series, our Co-CEO Engin Ayaz hosted Colette Forma, Director of Radical Innovation at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Geert Christiaansen, founder of Specto Consulting, and ex-Philips Experience Design Studio Director. This live-recorded session was recorded in Amsterdam as part of our Impact Leaders Roundtable series, and in this particular session, the discussion revolved around how we might lead change together through the communities we foster within our organizations. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/dQ4DbPUt How do you think communities within your organizations can help foster positive change and drive innovation? Let us know in the comments below and please reach out to us if you have any recommendations for speakers for our next Impact Leaders Roundtable episodes in Amsterdam, Dubai or Riyadh! #podcast #innovation #communities #amsterdam #dubai #riyadh #communitydesign #communitypowered #design #sustainability #dei

What if we could see emissions more clearly? Would that make a difference in uniting people around climate protection? Would it make a difference to you? To your leaders? Call to action for all creative technologists working with #XR - mixed reality can make our climate challenge more approachable if we start visualizing it better. #climateprotection #climateaction #climateawareness #emissions

I am delighted to join the editorial board of Codesign. To support the chief editors Liesbeth Huybrechts and Margo Brereton meet their aims for the Codesign journal. The aims of CoDesign are: · to report new research and scholarship into principles, procedures and techniques relevant to collaboration in design or that relate to its theoretical underpinnings; - to act as an international forum for sharing findings from research into issues relating to collaborative design; · to encourage a flow of information across the boundaries of the disciplines contributing to research into design collaboration, its contexts and consequences; · to stimulate ideas and promote discussion in support of the creation of new knowledge and understanding about collaborative design. CoDesign is inclusive, encompassing collaborative, co-operative, participatory, socio-technical and community design. Research in any design domain that presents findings concerned specifically with collaboration elements is of relevance to the Journal. Research papers that present theory, report empirical studies, and describe and evaluate collaborative and participatory design methods, tools and techniques are welcomed provided they clearly present a new contribution to our current understanding. Papers reflecting on practical experience of collaborative design are also welcomed with the same proviso. Topics may include collaborative design theory; collaborative design methods, techniques and tools methods for studying collaborative design studies of collaborative design; innovations in technology to support collaboration in design managing or enabling collaborative design handling of design issues (e.g. resilience, inclusivity, competing or incommensurate stakeholder values, conflicting expectations or requirements, contention over resources or power inequalities).

🏆 How to write the perfect APG paper? The APG Creative Strategy Awards are on again in 2025. So if you’re true to the literal interpretation of ‘planner’ or indeed ‘planning’ you will already have started work on your entry. 🏇 If however, you’re a by-the-seat-of-your-pants, wild, hard, last-minute-ride kind of planner (belying all practical interpretations of the ‘planning’ thing) you’ll be getting down to it sometime in early March. Tripping fearlessly and with blind optimism through to the 3rd April deadline. Fair enough. Carry on. (And good luck, if not good planning) 🖕 But there is a middle way. And we’ve organised it for you so you don’t have to any planning (of the practical boring kind). Instead, you can devote your time to crafting the perfect paper. 🏫 There are 3 workshops: Logic, 🪄 Magic and 🌟 Sparkle. (Where's the 'logic' emoji when you need it?) You can do 1, 2 or all 3 of them. Between them, they cover the essential ingredients of the perfect creative strategy case history delivered by the experts in writing and winning APG awards and the creme de la creme of creative strategy: Twice Grand Prix winner Vicki Holgate, APG Co-Chair and CSO of adam&eveDDB Martin Beverley and Gold winner, CSO of The Gate London and winner of the best written paper in 2023, Kit Altin https://lnkd.in/gTeZJFj3

Preparing for the workshop in Utrecht. Using 3d models as metaphorical spaces to talk about digital platform places. The dichotomy of Transaction and Transformation Towns is to concentrate opinions about what is built (or not). However, the real meaning is in the Affinity Bubble space that is a hard to perceive and manage liminality. It’s the space held by Community Connectors (with possible support by Useful Outsiders). The work of Cormac Russell is critical here and the book The Connected Community (co-authored with John McKnight) is a great resource. The affinity that is needed to find and bind a community is held by connectors. The workshop will be about technologies and platform structures but those are all empty architectures with community connectors. The participants need to understand that.

People think I'm woo-woo when I say design can save the world. But then I receive an insight—like the email I got this morning from our wonderful partner Edeline Berg from the Aruba Conservation Foundation (ACF)—and it makes me smile to know we're on the right track 🌱✌️ -------------- "On Earth Day this year, we rebranded to Aruba Conservation Foundation, marking our evolution into a modern conservation organization. The positive response from our associates, partners, stakeholders, and the Aruba community has been overwhelming. 🌱 "With our new name, logo, visual identity, and tone of voice, we’ve seen a notable shift in how we’re perceived both internally and externally... We look and feel more professional, which is exactly what we wanted to achieve. 🌱 —More non-nature partners and stakeholders are now reaching out to us for advice and involvement in nature-related issues. 🌱 —We’ve also received increased support from local and international organizations through funding, donations, and volunteer efforts. 🌱 —The number of international volunteers applying their time has grown as well. 🌱 —More importantly, our community is becoming more aware of threats and impacts on Aruba’s nature. 🌱 —People are now turning to ACF with concerns about nature, seeking our involvement in various issues such as habitat destruction, protected species nest destruction, new conservation projects and requests for speaking opportunities, presentations, and workshops to hotels and tour operators so as to educate them on how to best bring nature and the protection of it into their business operations. 🌱 "Although our small team has been working hard to keep up with the increased demand, this reflects the success of our brand transformation. 🌱 "Moving from a government-associated image to an independent nature management organization has opened many doors for us, both locally and internationally and we are referred to as the voice of nature, something we’ve made sure to be the positioning of our brand." 🌱 #conservation #design #brandidentity
