But one aspect we tend to overlook is that sustainability is fundamentally about continuity—something that lasts and isn’t easily disrupted. Sustainability, in this broader sense, is essential for a balanced society, workplace, and home. In this context, sustainability doesn’t mean resisting change, but rather embracing changes that are lasting and resilient. It’s about avoiding temporary solutions or sudden shifts that may disappear over time. This perspective on sustainability is just as important as focusing on environmental or energy issues. "Stay sustainable, keep sustainability in focus!" This is what I often think about and apply in my work. What are your thoughts?

In line with Triodos Bank's science based target to reach net zero by 2035, we initiated a climate change engagement project with the goal to encourage companies in our Impact Equities and Bond portfolios to set science-based GHG emission targets, in line with the 1.5°C trajectory. "Our approach is two-fold. One, we focus on companies that are still in the early stages of establishing a climate change strategy. These companies can greatly improve their approach by setting targets that are science-based. Two, we focus on the highest emitters in our portfolio, as reducing emissions for this group can substantially and efficiently decrease the emission intensity of our portfolio," explain investment analysts André d'Ursel, Luc van Haaren, and Lilia Feghiu. Great to see this news from Triodos Bank UK hitting the headlines this week! Triodos has just announced its first private sector loan based on a biodiversity net gain (BNG) credit model. This landmark deal with Nature Impact will transform 120 acres of degraded farmland in the South East into a thriving haven for wildlife. What's happening? 🌳 70 acres in Rolvenden, Kent, and 52 acres in Wadhurst, East Sussex, will see woodland extensions, native grassland restoration, and new nature corridors. 🌳 This innovative loan follows a £3.85m loan to Avon Needs Trees, supporting the creation of the largest new woodland in the South West for a generation. Why does it matter? 💚 Triodos Bank has been a frontrunner in financing nature-based solutions for over four decades. This project not only boosts confidence in BNG among investors but also aligns perfectly with our mission to reverse biodiversity loss and create lasting change. Very proud of this major partnership announcement by Fondaction and Banque Triodos to change the way we do finance and to finance the change we want to see. And one of the major change we want to see is how our economy can shift from being one that degrades nature to one that can regenerate it for future generations. The looming, dual biodiversity and climate change crisis will only be resolved by combining forces and championing big and bold ideas. Together, our respective asset management arms - Fondaction Gestion d’actifs and Triodos Investment Management will set-up a joint venture that focusses on addressing the finance gap for biodiversity and natural capital solutions in developed markets, such as regenerative agriculture, sustainable forestry and nature restoration. So we are determined to improve the financial health of our customers in a structured way: improving resilience by savings and providing tools for budgeting. Recently, private individuals can set monthly budgets in the ING Mobile Banking App, for example for shopping, eating out or sports. Budgeting is planning and managing your expenses so that you don't spend more than you get in. With our customers now able to set monthly budgets, this gives a clear overview of what they have left to spend. In doing so, we help customers take control of their money business. To stay or become financially healthy you need to have your money in order and keep it in order, which is why ING believes it is important to have insight into your income, expenses, and savings. In addition to doing banking, there are therefore more and more opportunities in the ING App to gain insight into your money business in a simple way.

Funny 😂. indeed the scope 3 emission requires some level of integrity. in other words it is not easy to assess and report what isn't under your control. Just to remind that scope 3 emissions are the result of activities from assets not owned by the reporting entity.

Dutch banks 🇳🇱 like bunq and Rabobank (source in comments) are becoming increasingly proactive in assessing the impact of carbon pricing and its broader implications for their portfolios. Today, Rabobank announced that it will estimate how much carbon is emitted per purchase 🍇 🌭 🥪 🍺 🥩 . While many of these assessments are still based on estimates, future carbon data may rely on real-time data. This shift will inevitably require accurate, current data to identify risks and opportunities appropriately. The recent proposal of Terra Nova- think tank (source in comments), to hand over the governance of the Market Stability Reserve to institutions like the European Central Bank seems to be in line with broader EU strategies to tackle climate change through mechanisms like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). To carbonize spending, you've got to carbonize it all. It is, therefore, very possible that CBAM will stretch further than everyone thinks. CBAM might be more than just a regulatory tool— especially as carbon costs become embedded in our daily life. For companies and banks alike, CBAM represents a challenge and an opportunity to lead the way in the green transition.
