The Power of Listening: The Most Underrated Skill in SAP Consulting In my years of experience in SAP, one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is this: the solution often lies within the problem itself – if only we take the time to listen. When working with clients, I’ve found that true listening can reveal the most subtle but critical details. In fact, I host a session called “I Listen to Your Pain” where clients or team members come to share their challenges. This session isn’t about giving instant solutions; it’s about creating a space to understand the issue deeply before diving into action. Here’s a recent example: During a project, a client mentioned, almost as a side note, a “minor” operational delay they’d faced. That single comment, picked up by attentive listening, uncovered an underlying integration gap with other modules. By asking the right questions and actively engaging in their pain points, we could zero in on the root issue, providing a solution that avoided countless iterations. Listening isn’t just a soft skill – it’s the best feature of any effective mentor or consultant. When we listen and ask the right questions, we minimize misunderstandings, streamline the solution process, and build trust. 💼 Micromanagement in IT & SAP Projects: A Necessary Evil or a Roadblock? 💼 Over my 15-year journey in SAP consulting, I’ve been fortunate to work under leaders, not bosses. I’ve never experienced micromanagement, and honestly, I’m not sure how it feels. But when I hear stories from colleagues about being scrutinized for every minor detail, I can’t help but wonder: 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗶𝘁? 𝗠𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🌿 Trust Over Control: Every project I’ve been part of emphasized trust. 🌿 Freedom to Innovate: Without micromanagement, I had the creative space to bring innovative solutions to clients. 🌿 Accountability with Autonomy: I owned my work, knowing the outcomes mattered more than how I got there. We started out with end-to-end because it required fewer moving parts, but we have now focused on the delta because it significantly makes it easier for you to handle your transports and not have to find the right process for moving from QA to Production.
