The in-silico clinical trials to validate our in-silico testing approach on specific questions of interest for our medical device use cases, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and pulmonary artery pressure sensor (PAPS), have finally started. Our partners at Eindhoven University of Technology, Institut für Implantat Technologie und Biomaterialien e.V, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in collaboration with our colleagues at ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) and Transilvania University of Brasov, will utilise 4 application scenarios, including: - Assessment of  the effects of convergent and divergent left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) shapes, and calcifications on clinical outcomes such as paravalvular leakage (PVL), on TAVI; - Evaluation of the effects of side branches of the pulmonary artery on device implantation and intravascular haemodynamics, and therefore the risk for device thrombosis, and comparison of hemodynamic and structural mechanical parameters between the chronic animal experiment and human application, for PAPS. Commercial arm robots are increasingly used to aid stroke patients, as around 80% of patients face arm function issues. While seen as a solution to financial and staffing challenges in healthcare, new research from Amsterdam UMC, published in Neurology, shows they offer no significant clinical benefits. Led by Professor Gert Kwakkel, the study analyzed 90 studies involving over 4,000 patients. Despite a 3% improvement in muscle and arm function, arm-hand dexterity did not improve. Moreover, healthcare costs were higher with robot use compared to traditional therapy. Kwakkel emphasized that despite technological advancements, arm robots haven't provided meaningful patient improvements over the past two decades. 💓 Unveiling Insights into #HeartFailure leveraging cutting-edge #AI-#NLP technology: publication in ESC Heart Failure in the spotlight. 🔍 Through a retrospective study, in collaboration with Heart Center Aalst, we aimed to delve deep into the complexities of heart failure (HF). Using advanced #NLP algorithms, we were able to collect and analyze clinical data from over 1000 patients diagnosed with HFrEF or HFmrEF. 📊 Our findings shed light on the intricate relationship between #comorbidities like type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and their impact on mortality and HF readmission rates. Additionally, we evaluated patients' eligibility for SGLT2is based on European label criteria. 💡 One of the strengths of our study lies in the analysis of a real-world cohort of HF patients, offering invaluable insights into contemporary clinical practice settings. This approach is particularly crucial as HF management continues to evolve rapidly due to paradigm-shifting trials and updated guidelines. Is the Northern Netherlands becoming the new hotspot for medical innovation? The opportunities are abundant, and the iMPACT Implants project perfectly demonstrates what is possible when specialists join forces. The goal of this project? To develop personalized implants, tailored to the unique anatomy of each patient. By combining advanced 3D technology with patient-specific data, such as bite force and walking patterns, we make this possible. This is already being applied on a small scale. The next step is to further optimize it and roll it out on a larger scale. Together with partners like the UMCG, the ENTEG Institute of the University of Groningen, BAAT Medical, Bether Encapsulates, and PolyVation, we are working towards our ambition of making personalized implants the new standard. This project is made possible by a €3.7 million grant from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) to launch the iMPACT Implants program. The total project value amounts to €7.3 million.
