𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻? By making simple, conscious choices that create a positive impact on the planet. Not sure what to do? Here are 3 inspiring IssueKiller campaigns that show that there are still quick and easy gains to be made: #1 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗵 Plant-based meals are delicious and better for the planet! The IssueKiller Campaign Plant is Koning is raising awareness about the price difference between vegan products and standard products. This leads to a higher threshold for people to follow a vegan diet, which is a crucial step in the sustainability transition. #2 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 Most wrapping paper is not recyclable. For the short-time it’s used, the campaign Inpakken Aanpakken, highlights the importance of sustainable alernatives, such as using old newspapers, reusable bags or any wrapping you already have at home. #3 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸 If you don’t have a New Year’s resolution yet, consider switching to a sustainable bank. The campaign Stop met Bankhangen shows how quick and easy you can get your money to drive change. By switching to a sustainable bank, you support renewable energy and promote fair business. These are our picks to make the holidays a sustainable celebration. These campaigns are part of Issue Killers, an educational program organized by TheRockGroup (TRG), where students and young adults learn to create marketing campaigns about an environmental or societal issue. Within all our educational programs, the goal is to double the impact made. We help participants gain hands-on experience, while they also directly contribute to a better society. Soon the applications will open for a new round of the IssueKiller program in which a new generation will create new inspiring campaigns to promote conscious ways of living. Is Burnout the next challenge for The Evolving Sustainability Profession? Rising compliance pressure, limited resources and growing Strategic demands. 🚀 At the SDG Forum in Brussels two weeks ago, TheRockGroup, Vlerick Sustainability Centre and The Shift vzw/asbl held an insightful workshop with participants diving deep into these questions. 🔎We explored how the sustainability field has transformed over the years: from a primarily CSR-focused role to a much more strategic, multidimensional and visible discipline in organisations. This has significantly increased pressure on sustainability professionals, but also brings opportunities e.g. for more meaningful engagement with management. This shift is driven by several developments including increased regulatory pressures and stakeholder expectations, technological advances and a heightened awareness of global challenges. 💡From the survey we conducted among almost 70 sustainability professionals, we know that the 3 largest challenges sustainability professionals face in their work are: 1️⃣ Embedding sustainability across the entire company; 2️⃣ Limited resources and; 3️⃣ Engaging suppliers to align with sustainability standards. 🎯To address these, presenting a strong business case for sustainability and securing management support and additional resources will remain key. Another priority is cross-departmental collaboration and engagement with all employees across organisations. 👥The participants discussed that to avoid burnout and create more impact, sustainability professionals can benefit from finding allies within the different functions and business units in the organisation and from working with HR/Learning & Development to identify and address skills gaps. 🤝Another key insight: Advancing sustainability in organisations requires not only technical and regulatory knowledge but also, importantly, #leadership, #changemanagement and #storytelling. Developing these often underestimated ‘soft’ skills will prove to be essential in any successful sustainability journey. 📃 Together with Vlerick Sustainability Centre and The Shift vzw/asbl, TheRockGroup will release a publication with more insights and the full survey results. ✅Follow our page to stay up to date on how the role of the Sustainability Professional is evolving...and how you can find support in your journey! #SDGForum #Sustainability #SustainableImpact #Sustainabilityprofessionals #Leadership Lettemieke Mulder Anouk van Oss Nuria Spijker Jonathan De Grande Karen Galle

𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹’𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 The Court of Appeal in The Hague has dismissed the climate case Milieudefensie filed against Shell. Milieudefensie is a Dutch environmental group that sued Shell to push for stronger climate action. While the court ruling dismissed their demands, this does not mean that Shell is no longer required to take environmental measures. In addition to the “duty of care” imposed on Shell by the court, much has changed regarding emissions reduction requirements for large companies since the start of the case. The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) already mandates Shell to actively combat climate change by 2027 at the latest. ⚖️ 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Milieudefensie had demanded that Shell reduce its direct and indirect CO₂ emissions by at least 45% by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. This percentage was based on scientific research into the global emissions reductions needed to maintain a reasonable chance of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as outlined in the 2016 Paris Climate Agreement. The court ruled, however, that this general standard is “not specific enough” to apply directly to Shell. 🌡️ 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: 𝗖𝗦𝗗𝗗𝗗 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Meanwhile, the world has not stood still between the initial ruling and its rejection on appeal. With the adoption of the CSDDD, Europe’s largest companies, including Shell, are now required to establish and implement a climate transition plan. Under this plan, each company must “do its utmost” to align its business model and strategy with the goals of the Paris Agreement. The plan must include time-bound, scientifically based reduction and explain how the company intends to achieve these targets. Reporting on progress is also required, particularly through the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). 📉 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿: 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 - 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 - 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. Whether within the EU or connected to it, these standards are reshaping global sustainability. Reach out the global team of TheRockGroup (TRG) to learn how we can support your organization in navigating a sustainable future under the CSDDD and CSRD frameworks. #CSDDD #CSRD #globalcompanies

"We sustainability professionals are being asked to sprint a marathon." 💨 A quote from yesterday's SDG Forum Workshop that TheRockGroup (TRG) organised together with Vlerick Business School and in collaboration with The Shift vzw/asbl in Brussels. It was an inspiring session in which we discussed the evolving role of the Sustainability professionals. 👔 Some key takeaways from the session: 💡 The sustainability profession has changed drastically in recent years. It has evolved from a nascent field focused primarily on CSR to a multidimensional and strategic discipline, moving from a peripheral to a more central and visible place in many organisations. 💡 The role increasingly demands a blend of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and importantly, personal and leadership skills. Collaboration, communication, and systems thinking are essential to embed sustainability across organizations. 💡 Looking forward, an even greater focus on innovation, and resilience-building skills in the face of ongoing and emerging global crises is necessary. As sustainability professionals, we're no longer just advocates on the sidelines; we're architects of a more resilient future. Our mission isn’t just to keep pace—it’s to reimagine the way forward. 🌍 Want to know more about the discussions and insights? In the following week, we will dive deeper into the learnings and share them with you. Stay tuned by following our page! #sustainabilityprofessional #sdg
