It is EU’s Equal Pay Day – also within NN, a day focused on the gender pay gap. This day was first initiated in 2011, but after some research in our company’s archives, we found it is not a new topic. In fact, we have quite some stories on how this important matter was put on the agenda in the nearly 180-year history of our company! For example, within one of our predecessors, De Nederlanden van 1845, it was customary to keep employees’ salaries confidential, as management wanted to avoid dissatisfaction among employees. In 1960, the works council voted for more salary transparency. As women’s salaries were not equal to that of men’s, this was an important step in balancing the gender pay gap for our company in the Netherlands. Many actions have followed since, also with our international businesses in scope. So, how are we doing today? Our latest equal pay analysis shows that, in general, men and women in the same job family and compensation grade, with similar experience and age, receive fair and equal pay. However, we see an overrepresentation of women in lower pay grades, and an underrepresentation in higher pay grades. We address this in our talent management, succession planning and diversity & inclusion initiatives. We also closely monitor compensation packages for new hires and recently promoted women, ensuring a balanced pay structure for all NN colleagues. Overall, we are progressing, but our work on achieving greater equity and becoming an even more inclusive and fair workplace is not done yet!

Today Abdi Nageeye, member of the NN Running Team and winner of the New York Marathon, visited our office in The Hague and shared insights about his recent victory. It was great to see how so many colleagues listened to him and were inspired by his achievements. After the Olympics in Paris, Abdi decided to focus on his training for New York and it paid off! Abdi became the first member of the NN Running Team and the first Dutchman to win this famous marathon🥇 Many of our colleagues asked: ‘what goes through Abdi’s mind when running a marathon?’ The answer might surprise you…. Since the race is at such a high speed, one can only focus on the route and not bumping into other runners. Congratulations Abdi on your historical achievement! #NNRunningTeam #YouMatter #YouHaveOurSupport

Today is World Mental Health Day and a chance to promote mental health awareness and support. Every year, millions of children and adolescents around the world struggle with mental health challenges, often lacking access to the necessary (evidence-based) support and resources. Without professional help, these young people are at risk of facing long-term consequences. At NN Group, we believe that everyone should have access to quality mental health care and support. That is why we are proud to announce our new global partnership, called ‘Mental Well-being & Resilience for the Next Generation’, with SOS Children's Villages International/SOS Kinderdorpen Nederland and Save the Children Nederland. Through this partnership, we aim to support more than 40,000 children, adolescents and caregivers in countries where NN Group operates. Together with our partners, we will provide essential educational resources, trauma care and psychosocial support to those who need it most. Lonneke Roza, Head of Community Investment shares: ‘Mental health challenges can lead to loneliness, social isolation and anxiety. People need support and guidance to break the harmful cycle that repeats from one generation to the next. Without access to evidence-based care, millions may experience persistent mental health challenges. Through this new partnership, we aim to break this cycle and equip adolescents and caregivers with tools to support their long-term mental well-being.’ #WorldMentalHealthDay #YouMatter #MentalWellBeing

Our AI Hackathon for Social Good took place this week in The Hague. Over the course of two days, 30 of our NN Data Science Guild colleagues volunteered to support our societal partners, Jarige Job Foundation, TechMeUp, Stichting Thuisgekookt, Young Impact and Stichting Nationaal Ouderenfonds. Our goal? To empower our societal partners in enhancing their own AI capabilities. Making their operations more effective to support more people whose financial or mental and/or physical well-being is at risk. Our colleagues will continue to collaborate with the societal partners to implement the solutions in their business operations. Thank you to all colleagues for your enthusiasm, collaborative spirit and for your innovative solutions! #AIforGood #NNHackathon #NNCareers #NNGroup

We look back at a sporty September. NN was the first name sponsor of the NN Dam tot Damloop and the 46th edition of the Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon also took place🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♂️ The NN Dam tot Damloop was a celebration with tens of thousands of people running from Amsterdam to Zaandam. It was nice to see all #TeamNN participants in action. NN donated bib numbers, running shirts and shoes through our partnership with the Jeugdeducatiefonds to encourage children to start running. We also partnered up with Fonds Gehandicaptensport and organised a special run for children with disabilities, because we believe in making running more accessible for everyone. In Warsaw, around 13,000 runners took on the challenge of running the Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon. During this event, we also supported #RunWell – a campaign that has become the largest recurring charity running event in Poland. Their initiative combines the love of running with helping others and showing everyone how much we can achieve by joining forces for the good of others. #TeamNN #NNDamtotDamloop #NNPoland #RunWell #Support #Running

Water is the basis for life on earth. At NN Group we recognise the importance of this critical resource, and we identified it as a priority topic for our investment and engagement activities. To gain a better understanding of water-related risks for investors, we contributed to a new report on this underdeveloped topic. The recently published report highlights the need for more up-to-date and consistent location-specific data, scenarios, and understanding of risk profiles of watersheds and supply chains in corporate reporting. ‘Corporate reporting does not sufficiently capture localised water and future risks, leaving a gap that has to be addressed in order to map and assess water risks in a standardised way,’ said Rebecca Dreyfus, Active Ownership Specialist within NN Group's Responsible Investment team. ‘This report provides actionable insights for investors and businesses to assess these risks more effectively. Understanding and mitigating water-related risks in specific locations is crucial for companies amidst rapidly changing global climate and ecosystem dynamics.’ The report is the outcome of the BRIDGE project, which was launched last year with the goal of identifying new approaches to bridge gaps in corporate reporting on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics, particularly in the area of water. In the project, we partnered with water specialists Deltares and WWF, as well as peers Achmea Investment Management and SCOR. https://lnkd.in/dyfRCy5c
