With the first pile going into the ground, the expansion of our Workum plant is underway! The new section will be fully operational by the end of 2026. This expansion is not just about increasing capacity—it represents a significant step forward in sustainability and innovation for whey processing: 🌍 6,800 tonnes CO₂ reduction annually—equal to planting 340,000 trees. 💧 350,000 m³ less water used annually—the same as the yearly consumption of 22,000 households. ⚡ A cleaner energy transition: Replacing a 50-year-old gas evaporator with modern electrically powered filtration units, bringing us closer to CO₂-neutral production by 2050. With this upgrade, we’ll be able to transform all whey from our cheese production into high-quality proteins for Early Life Nutrition, Performance Nutrition, and Medical Nutrition markets.

We are proud to contribute to healthier, more resilient communities across Asia. Together, with innovation and collaboration, we can transform lives and build a brighter tomorrow for future generations.
Malnutrition in Asia isn’t just a statistic — it’s a daily reality for millions of children. From undernutrition to hidden hunger to rising obesity, the triple burden of malnutrition is a challenge that demands more than incremental solutions. In an interview with FoodNavigator Asia, I shared how FrieslandCampina is working to break this cycle. By using data-driven insights from SEANUTS II, we are tailoring fortified dairy solutions to meet local needs and scaling impactful partnerships with governments, schools and communities. But this is about more than delivering products — it’s about driving systemic change. Tackling malnutrition requires bold innovation, collective action and a commitment to ensure every child has the chance to grow, learn and thrive. How can we amplify our efforts to create a healthier, more equitable future for children in Asia? 🌱 At #COP29’s Food, Agriculture, and Water Day, the main conversation is on the importance of collective action for a sustainable, resilient food system. A good example is how FrieslandCampina partners with Danone, Arla Foods, Rabobank and dsm-firmenich in the Future Fit Dairy Initiative. This initiative ensures #RegenerativeAgriculture is both environmentally sustainable and economically viable for dairy #farmers in Northwestern Europe. 🌍 As part of its commitment to a more sustainable dairy industry, FrieslandCampina aims to scale regenerative agricultural practices in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany by 2030. 🐄 To make this a reality, FrieslandCampina launched a pilot program to work closely with #farmers, like Robert Nijkamp, to accelerate the transition to regenerative agricultural practices on dairy farms. These practices help reduce costs, enrich the soil, and cut synthetic fertilizer use—critical for improving #biodiversity and water management. These efforts align closely with the goals of COP29, which are focused on creating resilient, sustainable food systems. FrieslandCampina’s involvement in OP2B has been key in driving its regenerative agriculture efforts. “OP2B’s network has been crucial in fostering collaborations that go beyond the dairy sector'' says Guus van Laarhoven. ➡️ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dFXpqBXq This story is part of a series that highlights OP2B members' commitment to scaling regenerative agriculture.
