Europe's main network of national STEM platforms.
Over ons
The EU STEM Coalition is an EU-wide network that works to build better STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education in Europe. Our goal is to shape STEM education policies and practices that foster economic growth, opportunity and well-being for all. The EU STEM Coalition is at the heart of EU-wide cooperation between national STEM platforms. STEM platforms are national or regional organisations tasked with the coordination and implementation of the national and regional STEM strategies and policies. They include dedicated platforms, national ministries, regional authorities, research councils, innovation agencies and university networks and many more. The platforms work closely with our European partners and a range national and regional partners to address skills mismatch in STEM throughout the EU. The EU STEM Coalition's main goal is to facilitate best-practice sharing between European countries and regions. Through a wide variety of activities and resources we bring together policy makers and policy shapers to exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop new approaches across a range of areas related to STEM education and labour market. Our activities include annual conferences, thematic working groups, webinars, peer-learning activities and online repositories. In addition, the EU STEM Coalition provides direct support in the development of new initiatives, organisations and strategies based on existing best-practices.

Shaping the future of European engineering! 🇪🇺✨ 🛠️ Which and how many engineers for tomorrow? A super important topic to many of the EU STEM Coalition partners. Therefore project leader and stakeholder manager Platform Talent voor Technologie Joep Bresser attended the seminar organised by the Conference of Deans of French Schools of Engineering (CDEFI - Conférence des directeurs des écoles françaises d'ingénieurs) in Brussels yesterday. As a panelist, Joep brought forward the importance of long term strategies in promoting STEM education, promoting girls in STEM, and sharing the concept of STEM learning ecosystems. Pressing questions: 💡 How can we equip engineers to lead Europe’s green and digital transitions while adapting to demographic and technological challenges? 💡 How do we attract talent, foster innovation, and strengthen collaboration across sectors? 🌟Joep Bresser emphasized the importance of systemic, long-term STEM policies to raise the number of STEM graduates, noting that short-term, patchwork projects don’t deliver sustainable impact. 🙏Joep also expressed enthusiasm for the Strategic STEM Education Plan that the European Commission will introduce, which could strengthen advocacy for national STEM policies and align efforts across regions. 🔊In response to a question from Carle Bonafous-Murat of France Universités, Joep underlined the importance of role models for girls in STEM but noted it must be combined with tackling teacher biases, integrating STEM in primary schools, and mentorship programs. 🌍Joep also recalls sharing the concept of STEM learning ecosystems, highlighting Dutch and American examples where schools, businesses, and communities collaborate to foster a technology-inclusive culture in Europe. 🔑 Other highlights 👉 Opening remarks: Alessia Lefebure, Dean of L'Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, inspired attendees with her vision: “By fostering creativity, collaboration, and sustainability, we can empower engineers to lead Europe’s green and digital transitions.” Followed by an introductory speech by Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of Higher Education Unit, Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission Culture of the European Commission 👉 Roundtable 1: Exploring the current state of engineers in Europe—differences, challenges, and opportunities across nations, with panelist Dirk BOCHAR from EU STEM Coalition founding member ENGINEERS EUROPE 👉 Roundtable 2: Practical solutions for increasing engineering talent and enhancing education to meet future demands, with speakers from Unite! - University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering, SEFI, CESAER, Board of European Students of Technology. 👉 Expert panelists included: Emily Barker (FutuRes Policy Lab) Mattias Björnmalm, PhD (CESAER) Greet Langie (SEFI) Joep Bresser (EU STEM Coalition) Andreas Winkler!
