eduScrum is a learning framework within which learners / students can tackle complex challenges, while productively and creatively achieving learning goals and personal growth of the highest possible value. eduScrum is also a framework for coaching learners / students where the responsibility for the learning process is delegated from educators / teachers to learners / students, by placing learning at the center stage: learn smarter, develop collaboration and communication skills, improve critical thinking, boost creativity, and get to know yourself better! This new way of learning creates more responsibility, fun, and energy that leads to better educational results in shorter time frames, and more importantly, to better human beings and citizens who are more critical, supportive, conscious, and better capable of lifelong learning. Learners / students experience strong personal growth that strengthens the self-confidence in themselves and on others. The key to all this is ownership: the learners / students have the freedom to determine their own learning process within given boundaries, such as team's self-regulation, proposed learning challenges & goals, and respective acceptance and valuation criteria. eduScrum was initiated by Willy Wijnands, a passionate chemistry and physics teacher of the Ashram College at Alphen aan de Rijn (Netherlands), and an Aikido teacher. eduScrum is based on Scrum, a framework for developing, delivering, and sustaining complex products, created by Sutherland & Ken Schwaber. Experience the ‘Flows’ with eduScrum: About the Why, How, and What of the Empowerment of Students and Teachers In the book: Industry Practices, Processes and Techniques Adopted in Education published (Supporting Innovative Teaching and Learning Practices) written by Willy Wijnands & Kristina Fritsch. Published by Springer Books in August 2022. Abstract The following chapter contributes further thought about how to empower students and teachers in their educational process. Agile learning promotes, supports, and enriches the personal development of students and teachers in different ways. These paths seem to evoke different specific experiences known as flow experiences. We look at three theories of flow connected with eduScrum practical experiences gathered in over 40 countries worldwide. This chapter presents a well-chosen agile learning project in more detail and introduces the model of Sangen (taken from martial arts) for understanding eduScrum holistically. By drawing similarities between the Product Owner role within the Scrum Framework and the teacher role within the eduScrum framework, it becomes clear that Product Owners in Scrum maximize the value of product developments. Teachers in eduScrum maximize the educational value of the personal development of their student teams and individual students. Within the eduScrum ‘educational value matrix,’ three learning and teaching approaches are combined with supporting teachers in their mission of increasing the educational value for their students. The given practical insights should encourage investigating the impact and effectiveness of the methodological framework eduScrum and show why and how eduScrum can give wings to the students and teachers.
