Infectious Diseases
Research Focus
The development of innovative antibiotics is urgently required to combat the spread of antibiotic-resistant infectious diseases, especially hospital-acquired infections.
In direct response to this unmet medical need, labs in the Infectious Diseases research group at the NIBN are developing synthetic and naturally occurring molecules to prevent bacterial communication, inhibit activities targeting bacterial-specific pathways crucial for pathogen virulence, and understand how cellular processes utilized by viruses can be arrested by specific inhibitors.
