The job I took on Upwork tested my mental capacity 😄.... I posted more than a week ago landing an hourly gig on Upwork..... Apparently, the client is moving from Qatar to Saudi Arabia, so he's looking.... My first exposure to Arab countries job board and it was a stretch 🥺 The first day took 6 hours at a stretch because I need to understand the nitty gritty of Visa type, Job platforms, application process and the likes.... I deployed the same job application strategy I use and in 7 days, he did an interview with offer in the end. Hopefully he takes the offer because it's low to his pay range. It's easier to get a gig especially on Upwork when you have a portfolio. Build relevant experience as a volunteer or through internship I'm yet to have a JSS or attain rising talent but I get invitations because of my profile and portfolio. I won my first contract on Upwork within just 1 month of sending proposals! A lot of you ask me how I did it? My straight forward answer is, PROPOSAL! The kind of pitch or proposal you submit when applying for a job is mostly how you get hired. For the first two weeks, I applied to 5 jobs. My proposal didn't include my 'portfolio', nor the part where you have to add 'why choose me?'. I didn't even include my past work examples. I just reached out with a message convincing the client that I CAN DO THE JOB. Didn’t get any results! I changed my strategy, in the third week: 1) created a portfolio on my google drive 2) Added a “why choose me” paragraph 3) Attached my past work samples 4) Included a free zoom call/consulation invitation 5) Offered the client a discount if they gave me my first project I applied to 5 more jobs with this proposal and strategy and one of the client hired me the next day! Please don’t expect clients to hire you with messages like “I can do it” or “I can help you with this” If you plan to work for Huge companies or pitch high paying clients, avoid short cuts and optimise your proposals every other week! I secured my first contract on Upwork within two weeks of joining... I felt like Superwoman! But before that, I had already wasted a lot of time and a good number of connects applying to jobs that didn't matter. However, within those two weeks of joining, I was learning and relearning the platform. I gained a good understanding of how it works and how to secure high-paying clients. And boom! Yesterday I recommended someone to a client in Upwork 🤔. Recently,I have been learning tips about Upwork and I decided to apply one of them and ended up getting a client message me but because I am not well equipped to do the job I recommended someone else for the Job. Now you wonder how I did it? Let me tell you! Follow this three important steps 1. Apply for Newly posted Jobs. When you apply for newly posted jobs that is not more than 5 mins you would be among the first persons to apply for the job and have high chances of the client seeing and messaging you. 2. Always write a good cover letter By good cover letter, I simply mean writing to the client that you are actually the person that they are looking out for in their job description. 3. Add your Portfolio/work samples Adding your portfolio/work samples when writing a proposal helps the client to access the kind of services he or she is going to receive from you and I advice you always upload your best works especially if you are graphic designer Following these few steps can really change the game for you and I hope this helps you on your freelancing career path. #HappyWeekend

What we should avoid when an invitation is being sent to apply for a job on Upwork. Over the weekend, I got an invitation to apply for a Customer Service job, which I declined, and I will explain my reasons for not applying. I took my time to read the job description to see if it was what I could do, and checked the client profile but I found a lot of fault. Reasons why I did not proceed: ✅ The client has posted over 4 jobs since 2024 without hiring any freelancer ✅ The hiring rate shows 0% ✅ He has sent an invitation to over 30 freelancers, but few people accepted the invitation ✅ Upwork asked me to use 14 connects and apply for a job which the client doesn't have any freelancer he has hired and 4 jobs posted ❌ I posted in a group where I belong if anyone is ready to risk his/her connects applying to this kind of job. Some people were interested, and I explained to them why I didn't want to apply, but my friend insisted I should refer her to the job, guess what? I smiled and told her to forget about this job, but she insisted NO. I declined the invitation and referred her, but she came back to tell me that she won't apply again. Maybe she felt I didn't want her to get the job, but I'm happy she realized the reasons for declining the job. I am struggling to verify my Upwork account I need your help. That was the message I received yesterday from one of my connections. She wanted to verify her Upwork account, but she's finding it difficult to even see the verification icon to click on I then ask her if she had received a message from Upwork requesting for her to verify her account she said NO. I then asked why then do you want to verify your account, she said everyone in her community is doing it. The truth is there's nothing wrong in verifying your account, But here is my advice Don't stress about verification unless Upwork requests it. Focus on: - Optimizing your profile - Professional headshot - Introduction video - Killer portfolio - Mastering proposal writing skills Upwork will notify you when it's time to verify your identity. I’ve been SCAMMED twice When I started my Ghostwriting journey, i got my first two clients from upwork. I was happy But, unfortunately they were scammers I connceted with them on Upwork They asked me to join Telegram and talk with their managers there. It took me almost 2 weeks to complete tasks for both the clients. When i submitted my work, One of them vanished and never paid or given any review. The other one asked for initial $50 in order to send me back my original payment. Luckily I didn’t. Lesson: If a client wants you to join telegram or whatsapp, beware it’s a scam. To be on the safe side, ask for upfront payment. If the client disagrees, never send full work before you get your payment. PS. Now, i am building my personal brand and network on Linkedin, because it’s more professional and safe. What are your thoughts?

I recently received a direct job offer from an Upwork client I had no prior contact with, without having sent a proposal. Rather than accepting the offer immediately, I requested a meeting to determine if I was a good fit for the job. The client agreed, and we scheduled a short meeting for the following day. During the meeting, the client shared details about a website that was against my ethical standards and Upwork’s policies, as it involved selling drug-related products such as cocaine and other similar substances. After giving it even a second thought, I apologized and declined the job because my ethics do not allow me to work on such websites. In general, I would advise caution when receiving direct job offers from unknown clients without any prior communication. Here’s why: 1. Potential Scams: Such offers can be scams, often targeting new or inexperienced freelancers. It’s crucial to understand why someone would hire you without knowing your work first. 2. Payment Issues: Even if you complete the work and get paid, the payment could be from stolen credit cards, leading to chargebacks. This could result in Upwork suspecting you of fraud and possibly suspending your account. 3. Policy Violations: If a client asks you to contact them outside of Upwork or proposes activities against Upwork’s policies, it’s best to report the job to Upwork to help maintain the integrity of the platform. Cracking Upwork code with a new strategy 💯💯📌📌. . . . . . My new Upwork strategy got me 4 invites today. That's a total of 7 invites and 4 direct messages this week. Remember I don't have to spend connects to apply to invites. I'm using this strategy to reduce connect costs since Upwork has reverted to no connects for invites. Still keeping my fingers crossed. I've invested my time in cracking the Upwork algorithm. Now that I have confirmed it's working well, it's time to work on a killer proposal.😂
