𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗜 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸. Don't get me wrong, I did not set myself up for failure but the challenge was beyond my imagination. An opportunity in Tech came my way end of last year and I jumped ship not knowing what I was getting into. Started of as a FrontEnd Developer and along the way came across UI/UX Design. Here are a few things I have learnt about this path: 📌 Perseverance is a skill you must have to succeed. When I started my career in UI/UX design, I quickly learned that it was not going to be easy. You think there is no code so it's simple till you realize how much thought is put in designing digital products. I would sleep on the same day and wake up on the same day as I found myself staying up late, learning new skills and tools each day. It has been a constant race to keep up with the latest trends, techniques and technologies. 📌 Tools and trend keep on evolving One thing you ought to know is that UI/UX design is not for the faint-hearted. It’s not about mastering one tool and being done. You have just mastered Figma then you find out there are other Prototyping tools like Penpot and Whimsical and the cycle begins. It requires relentless learning and adapting to new challenges. 📌 Patience is a Virtue if you want to start seeing the results you want. To be a great designer To create innovative and user-friendly designs To be the most sought-after designer You need to embrace perseverance And put in the work while you're at it. Earlier this year, I took on a project that required using TypeScript. It was my first time building something with TypeScript, and the experience was definitely a challenging but rewarding journey. A few days ago, I had a conversation with Salaudeen Olanrewaju and he mentioned that he's planning to dive back into TypeScript with a new approach—studying for 30 minutes each day. I told him I’m on board for this challenge as well. TypeScript is a typed programming language that builds on JavaScript. It adds additional syntax to your JavaScript to support a tighter integration with your editor, this gives you the opportunity to catch errors early in your editor. In the code below, I created a variable of type string and used the replace() method, which worked fine. However, on line 9, I tried to assign a boolean value to the same variable. TypeScript threw an error because the variable was initially declared as a string, and only string methods can be applied to it. 🚀🚀🚀 So, here's to a lot more TypeScript content over the next few weeks!

It's a new week today. Looking forward to the new week with a sense of renewed hope. I just started gaining some clarity on the direction I want to push the multiple projects under my supervision. It's been an interesting journey, coming up with project ideas, starting the project, having it fail (sometimes succeed) and having to either fix the errors or abandon the whole thing altogether. This week though, I enter into the penultimate phase of the project from Programmify and the critical phase of the project for the hackathon. Hopefully, it'll be an interesting week with lots to talk about. But, one thing's for sure: I'll give it my best and not leave the rest. Thanks Programmify #PIP3 #SoftwareEngineering.

My Journey to Becoming a Software Engineer: Part 2 This post is a continuation of my journey — if you missed the first part, you can find it in my earlier posts. We finished the last part on the point when I had just gotten into university in 2011. Getting into university was relatively easy with my grades, and I was awarded a scholarship. But soon, a new goal emerged: financial independence. I didn’t want to rely on my parents. I wanted to support myself, and that meant finding a way to earn money while still studying. At first, I thought about becoming a professional dancer to make ends meet. But my boyfriend at the time suggested something that seemed ambitious—"Why not work as a programmer?" It felt ambitious and crazy to me because I came from a family with a Soviet mindset, where the belief was that you need to graduate first to get a high-paying job. But my boyfriend gave me an example of his friend who had started younger than I was. I was only 18, and I had no formal experience. I thought, “Who would hire me?” But with his encouragement, I decided to take the plunge. For two solid weeks, I taught myself HTML and CSS. I was busy at university during the day, so I worked late into the night, building simple static websites based on Photoshop designs and creating a small portfolio from scratch. I really enjoyed the process of studying, and I was determined to prove to myself that I could do this. Then came the nerve-wracking part: applying for jobs. I reached out to companies, being completely honest about my lack of experience but emphasizing my eagerness to learn. Most turned me down, but one person saw something in me and offered a unique deal. He would handle client interactions, and I’d do the development work. We’d split profits 50/50. With that, I got my first real job in tech. And in just two weeks, I went from dependent student to someone earning her own money. That first paycheck was a powerful moment—I felt like I had control over my future. Takeaway: Sometimes, all you need is one person who believes in you. **Is the MERN Stack Dead?** You’ve probably seen a lot of videos on YouTube with every YouTuber making this claim. I got a bit confused too 😕, wondering if the MERN stack is really dead because I recently completed my backend and was working on a fullstack project 😔. So, I asked my senior, "Is the MERN stack dead?" I was curious to hear his response. He said: "Adnan bro, nothing is ever truly dead. These things are just trending." Then he showed me the Stack Overflow 2024 survey and said, "Look at this." For the next two days, I noticed every YouTuber making videos about the same topic, "Is the MERN stack dead?" 😅 Then it hit me – these YouTubers are just following the trend. If one makes a video, everyone else starts making the same content. Some YouTubers are saying the field is getting saturated, Everyone learning the same thing, while others have different opinions. 🤔 So, what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!👇

Lessons from Personal Experience! May you grow in your career or business to the point where no project can shake your confidence. Believe me, not all project terms are worth your time. I recall once drafting an entire UI wireframe from start to finish using a pen 🖊️, just to showcase my dexterity as the client requested. What you see on this paper was also fully implemented on a live server and let's just say, the outcome is a story for another day. Some clients who make the most demands often aren't worth the effort.
