Look for certification courses directly related to the tech field you wish to embark on during your MSc. Immerse yourself in these courses, grasp the fundamental concepts, and earn certifications along the way. But don't stop there. To further enhance your profile, try engaging in the following activities: ✅Write at least three articles on topics related to the tech field you're aiming for. The gamble of creativity is risking the curse of not realizing the full benefits of established standards while pursuing the blessing of creating new standards! The comfort of conformance is realizing the full benefits of established standards while risking the externally driven disruption when creatives win their gambles! To live is to gamble, the rules should just be fair and the goals profound than zero sum gambling that's all around us, where the gambling house is the real winner and the few playing winners are baits to trick the majority of others that must continue losing heavily for the Gambling Businesses to remain in business. The gambles (innovative experiments) around you affect you as if you're gambling, but don't worry if you don't have the disposition and abilities to dare to create the future, comfort in the present is great as a goal, and not just some ideal chases, and vice versa, it almost boils down to personality and societal norms at a time, and any of those sides is just fine. It will be better for our educational systems to have pathways that help to maximise both personalities of creativity and conformance, as students will excel better where they fit better. Creativity is winning more grounds from conformance looking at the rate of innovations presently, yet, you will get abysmal results when everyone is forced to operate majorly in a mode other than what they are primarily wired for! The elephant in the room is that students are even barely understanding concepts, as they can hardly relate what they learn to what they experience in their everyday lives. Reflecting on one year with alx_africa WHAT! A! YEAR! Sometime around April 2023 when I decided to apply for the #ALX_SE program, I barely knew anything about software engineering except a few scraps of knowledge that I’d gathered when I was trying out technical writing and taking some basic courses in that area. While my drive for enrolling in the program initially stemmed from wanting to reinvent myself and a plan to just gain enough knowledge to pursue a solid career in technical writing, it culminated into a desire to add a world-class skill into my arsenal that will make me an exceptional problem solver and asset to any team. The first time I opened the black screen of a Linux environment, I was already feeling like I could hack the US’s database 😅 Not knowing that it was just the beginning of a very long journey. A journey I would come to appreciate. From knowing next to nothing about Software Engineering to currently almost graduating from the program has been such a ride. I still get amazed that I currently understand bash scripting, version control using git/github, C, Python and Python frameworks (like Flask and Django), HTML, CSS, Javascript and Javascript frameworks (like Express), and collaborating effectively in a team to build a product from scratch. During my foundation portfolio project, I was able to work on a simple e-commerce website using Django, HTML, and CSS. Now, I am also part of a team of four wonderful engineers rounding up a real estate property listing and renting platform for our final portfolio project. Beyond the accomplishment of these projects, the thrill is that I actually understand most of what is going on. Like a year ago, I didn’t know anything!! 😂 Ultimately, I am grateful for the development of the grit and character that is required to finish this program. For me, that is the greatest achievement I got from this program. Because, in doing so, I have stretched myself beyond what I sometimes thought was possible. In between managing a writing agency and writing codes everyday, it was just one long hazy relationship with my PC 😫. Moreover, I have built amazing connections with several learners like myself and with this new community I have access to, I have no doubt that I can always access the support I need to succeed. As an Admin and talent manager I have alot of opportunities for graphic designers, frontend developers and product designers Especially those looking to enhance their skill and just getting started in tech Yes. Call me bias But I've always believed the foundation of any techie should be solid, only then can dey flourish well out there But one major issues I've had with these growing talents is the lies those they call "senior techies" have fed them about the "phases in the tech journey" So you see so much entitlement from someone who hasn't even worked on a real life project before but he/she already knows they are expert, just give them the job and pay them in dollars They will deliver, but immediately you give them a project, everything falls back to training phase Nahhhhh... I don't have that energy. You identify as an expert? Personally I will treat you as one, you don't get to learn on the job here 🤣🤣 But aside the jokes, it's a thing of concern for me... Why do you not want to intern? Why don't you want to volunteer? Why don't you want to have something tangible aside from #100daysofcodechallenge and #30daysuiuxchallenge to add to your portfolio?? They told you if you intern and Volunteer, it will reduce your steeze abi? You need to start charging 100$ after learning for 2months No let anybody use you, "the popular slang" But since nobody is using you, how much have you made? How many live projects have you worked on? How many opportunities these people who feed you these gibberish have connected you to? How many of them telling you stuffs that will mar you are even doing so great for themselves? You don't notice even you as a newbie is far better than them most times??? That was how a digital marketing student of ours a certain time, during the end of their training said something that made me laugh so much. She got an opportunity to be a digital marketer back then for 30k but she was looking for someone in class who would take up the opportunity, in her words "if it's not 50k and above I dont want" This is someone who hasn't even managed any company online presence before. And yes, not to mack anybody but you can tell what happened to that career path till date. They are still looking for tech skills to learn that will pay them so big after training Let me just end this rant here Sha... One of the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of this year was to sharpen my Product Management skills.Last month, I applied for the UX Foundry Product Management Mentorship Programme, and I was accepted.The introductory session for the programme was held last week Saturday, and Adeola Richards facilitated the session.She shared on 'who a Product Manager is NOT' and 'who a Product Manager IS'.One profound thing I learnt during the session was that Product Managers should be able to say NO to a suggestion given by the owner of the product or any member of the product team when the suggestion doesn't align with the goal of the product, no matter how beautiful it may be.I'm definitely looking forward to learning more in subsequent sessions. # productmanagement #Uxfoundary

How I plan to save the Nigerian Government $152,624 in the next 3 years.. . . I am thrilled to share my first cloud project that is very close to my heart. As an overachiever, I did this just after completing after completing the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals track.(AZ-900) As a proud recipient of the Federal Scholarship Board(FSB) Nigerian award during my university years, I experienced firsthand the impact of this scholarship on students' lives. However, I also witnessed the significant challenges involved in the yearly verification process. During my second year at university, I was awarded the scholarship, which was a tremendous help in my academic journey. But every year, the manual document verification process was a daunting task—not just for students, but also for the officials who had to travel across the country to validate our documents and travel back to the FCT for submission. This is a process that's still ongoing till date. Fast forward to today, recently graduating, I decided to leverage my technical skills to address this challenge by migrating the Federal Scholarship Board's website to Azure Cloud (in theory...) This project aims to automate the verification process, making it more efficient, scalable, and cost-effective. While it's an estimate, it's certainly more cost effective and secure than the current solution. I had stepped out of my comfort zone to attend an intensive training at Redemption City, Mowe Ogun State on AWS_Cloud Computing. It's was mind blowing interactive sessions and an eye opener on various ways AWS could be of instrumental to companies especially the start up company (this not to say, larger companies could benefits also, everyone would enjoy the benefits). I was able to add to my skills and knowledge on various ways on how to use AWS, indeed AWS is a life saver. With AWS, an organization could -Set their servers at a goal using EC2 -Scale up at any points to avoid to avoid too traffic on server using load balancer -Managed their networking -Enable the organization to exploit other regions at any point in time by making their services available in that region -One of the advantages of AWS that stood out for me is that, the service is pay as you go, it's not capital intensive, and everyone department can collaborate on the platform effectively, you can virtually do anything related to technology on the platform. 4 Years!! ✨ Today marks my 4 years at OmniRetail Technology Limited, and I couldn’t be happier. My journey began during the COVID pandemic with OmniBiz Africa (now OmniRetail), expecting a short-term role. Instead, it became a passion. Starting as an intern, I transitioned to full-time within 6 months, balancing work and studies with immense support from my team. Being in a startup meant working late hours and meeting tight deadlines. The team, then just 50-70 people across India and Africa, worked tirelessly to get the product live. Our efforts paid off as OmniRetail Technology Limited has been ranked #1 in Financial Times as '𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮'𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰'. Despite challenges like poor infrastructure, technology adoption, lack of trust, and economic fluctuations, OmniRetail has emerged victorious. Initially, working from #India while operations were in #Nigeria, I struggled to understand our product's impact. Visiting Nigeria gave me clarity on the need for an efficient system to address supply chain challenges. OmniRetail bridges the gap between retailers and manufacturers, simplifying the distribution and retailing of essential goods in #Africa. Working with diverse datasets, I realized data is key to everything. Every decision, strategy, and major feature development relies on data to understand end-user expectations. These experiences have highlighted the opportunities to use technology and data analytics to optimize resources, improve efficiency, and drive business growth. Fresh perspectives can lead to significant improvements. My fascination with data and analytics has led me to pursue an MSc in Business Analytics at Imperial College London. Where do I even begin? It’s funny how life twists and turns in the most unexpected ways. You see, I had registered for Altschool Africa before, but I joined the engineering class. Just as I was about to dive deep into JavaScript, it all came crashing down. Let’s fast forward a bit… Hello everyone, I’m Precious Davies, currently enrolled in the product design track at Altschool Africa, under a scholarship with Flutterwave. Before I initially registered for Altschool, I was always fascinated by problem-solving and started taking courses around product. My first attempt saw me certified as a Scrum Master, also i got a brief overview of product design. Recently, I wrote a post on Medium about imposter syndrome and its threat to success. Everyone experiences this to some extent, but mine was overwhelming. I overthought everything about joining Altschool, from funding to time management and motivation. Despite my fears, I registered, passed the initial test, applied for the Flutterwave scholarship, and got picked. This scholarship was the motivation I needed to continue. First semester came and I aced it. Second semester arrived and I barely got through it. Fear and imposter syndrome crept in, compounded by the pressures of work, running my personal business as a shopper and jewelry seller, and managing my private life. I secluded myself, thriving more in my own space. People around me began to mock me, asking, “Tech girl, what are you always typing on your laptop? We can’t see any money.” Some even doubted I was really into tech because “tech people have money.” Honestly, people can be so thoughtless with their words. Now, third semester is here, and I finally feel I can make it as a product designer. Altschool has introduced me to amazing people who inspire me to keep pushing. Attending classes has been challenging, especially since I’m often in transit during class times. But having friends who are genuinely invested in your growth is incredibly rare, and I’m grateful for finding them in Altschool. Currently in my team, we’re working on our capstone project, upgrading a current product of Flutterwave. I’m very excited about this project because it’s a fantastic problem solver. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, juggling deadlines, but my team supports each other, and for that, I’m thankful. I can’t wait to finish and graduate as a product designer. This third semester, my goal is to secure an internship before graduation, and I’m hopeful it will become a reality. I’ve just finished Week 5 of my ALX Virtual Assistant program, and I’m really happy with what I’ve learned. This week was full of useful lessons on how to create meeting agendas, do basic research, and manage data entry. We also had a session on emotional intelligence, which taught us about empathy in the workplace. I’m excited to start using these new skills in my work. CREATING MEETING AGENDA: One important thing I learned was how to create meeting agendas. Meetings can easily go off track if there is no plan. I now know how to set clear goals, organize topics, and manage time during meetings to keep everything running smoothly. I also learned that it’s helpful to ask for input from team members before the meeting. This way, everyone’s opinions are considered, which makes the meeting more focused and productive. I’m looking forward to using this skill to make meetings more efficient in the future. BASIC RESEARCH SKILLS: This week also covered how to do basic research, which is an important skill for many tasks like creating content or helping businesses make decisions. I learned how to gather the right information, check if it’s reliable, and present it clearly. I feel confident that these research skills will help me provide useful insights to clients and do better work in different projects. DATA ENTRY SKILLS: We also focused on data entry, which is another useful skill. While it might seem simple, it requires a lot of attention to detail. I learned how to organize and manage large amounts of data in a way that is easy to use and understand. Whether it’s keeping track of customer details or processing orders, being good at data entry is important for making sure information is correct and easy to find. I’m excited to use this skill in real-life tasks. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: Empathy in the Workplace In addition to learning technical skills, we also talked about emotional intelligence, especially empathy. This lesson was very important because it showed how understanding other people’s feelings can help improve teamwork and communication. Being able to put myself in someone else’s shoes makes it easier to work together and build trust. I now understand how showing empathy at work can create a positive environment and make teams more productive. I’m committed to practicing empathy in my future work to help build better relationships with colleagues and clients. I’m excited to start using everything I’ve learned from Week 5. Whether it’s organizing meeting agendas, doing research, or managing data entry, these skills will help me become a better virtual assistant. The lessons on emotional intelligence, especially empathy, will also help me create better teamwork and stronger connections in any workplace. With three more weeks left in the program, I’m looking forward to learning even more. I can’t wait to see how these skills will help me in my future jobs! On to week 6!💃

Here is how we are using AI in HaHuJobs Vacancy aggregation is one of our services, it is among our primary product value proposition for jobseekers. We collect web, job board and gazzet published vacancies to one database and add value through extracting important variables and classifying each vacancy. Hence to deliver a high quality information to jobseekers we have a team of 6 or 8 actively working to verify, classify and approve aggregated vacancies, which involves classifying based on US and Europe occupation standards (ESCO and Onet), extracting relevant requirements like skills, education leve, and years of experience from the publication. Collecting and compiling quality data is an expensive endeavor, especially for African Based business like ours. Hence we started working with Tabiya, Michael sahlu leading the implimentation from our end, with the goal to develop an AI model based on our 5 years aggregated and classified data which is over 160k records and increase efficiency of our vacancy publication. Our long time colleague and esteemed senior economist Christian Meyer PHD and team supported us to use Tabiya AI engine to identify qualification, industry sector identification, classification, required working experience and skills recommendation from an HTML based text. As previewed in the vedio bellow. Currently in beta deployment we are collecting data while the model in use by our data team to increase it's accuracy and expand it's implimentation scope beyond our internal tools.

"Although the usual complaints are power, infrastructure and quality of life for top talent.." The usual complaints are cliche. Maybe they should be tackled first, so as to have clarity to see the deeper problems. The usual complaints of electric power, infrastructure and quality of life for top talent. How can Nigeria leapfrog to the 4th Industrial Revolution, and compete with China in cutting edge technologies like Internet of Things, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, without constant, reliable and affordable electricity, whether grid or off-grid? Will the government build the infrastructure, or involve private Nigerian companies in the building of infrastructure for the 4th Industrial Revolution at large scale, across all states of the federation, without outsourcing it to foreign companies, so that the Naira will grow and circulate in Nigeria? Talent moves to where it is needed. Will Nigeria value her top talent, and extend genuine incentives that will make them to voluntarily stay in Nigeria? Let us begin with these simple and possible problems. Before we know it, we will be tackling the impossible. These are my thoughts on the issue of repeated closing down of the branches of foreign tech firms in Nigeria.
