His team had been tasked with building a recommendation engine for their company’s platform, and suddenly, the tools and techniques he relied on seemed outdated. During a team meeting, someone mentioned transformer models. Another brought up real-time analytics. Ade nodded along, pretending to understand, but deep down, he felt lost. It wasn’t just uncomfortable, it was terrifying. Was he falling behind? That evening, sitting alone at his desk, Ade made a decision. He opened an online learning platform he had ignored for months and signed up for a course on advanced machine learning. He didn’t know if it would work, but he knew he had to try. Day 8 So todayyyyy I explored Swagger UI and I learned a couple of interesting facts. ✅ Swagger UI is a framework that was built to correctly interprete OpenAPI Specification files into interactive API reference docs. Just like Spotlight which I learned about yesterday. ✅ To use Swagger UI, I had to download the source code from the Swagger UI's github repository. ✅The Swagger UI source code includes a dist folder, where the index.html and swagger-initializer.js files are crucial. These files pull the OpenAPI definition and generate the API reference interface. ✅ You need to have an OpenAPI Specification file hosted on the web, or you can have it as a local file in your computer. A spec file could either be in a json or YAML format, but the YAML format is so much easier to grasp. ✅ I learned how to run a simple local server using python's http.server to bypass any CORS errors when opening an specification file that is served locally and not on the web. ✅ Swagger UI can actually be customized to align with your company's documentation style, from the colors down to the layout, but this would require integrating it with other frameworks. Now I have an idea of how Spotlight and Swagger UI work, I honestly feel exhilarated, mainly because they are so easy to use and configure. What I am most interested about is learning how to code an OpenAPI Specification file all on my own without these tools, though they make it easier, but what is life without some level of difficulty right? 😅 What’s been your experience with Swagger UI or OpenAPI specs? Earlier this year, I took on a project that required using TypeScript. It was my first time building something with TypeScript, and the experience was definitely a challenging but rewarding journey. A few days ago, I had a conversation with Salaudeen Olanrewaju and he mentioned that he's planning to dive back into TypeScript with a new approach—studying for 30 minutes each day. I told him I’m on board for this challenge as well. TypeScript is a typed programming language that builds on JavaScript. It adds additional syntax to your JavaScript to support a tighter integration with your editor, this gives you the opportunity to catch errors early in your editor. In the code below, I created a variable of type string and used the replace() method, which worked fine. However, on line 9, I tried to assign a boolean value to the same variable. TypeScript threw an error because the variable was initially declared as a string, and only string methods can be applied to it. 🚀🚀🚀 So, here's to a lot more TypeScript content over the next few weeks!
