For the very first time, I witnessed a PhD Internal defence in my place of primary assignment in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt Nigeria. I can attest that graduate school isn't for the weak, it times commitment, dedication, hard work and other virtues to thrive therein. The candidates research work was on Farm Management & Production Economics and the presentation reinforced my passion for this field. I quietly observed the following from the PhD Candidate while presenting her work and faculty members listening: ✓ A thesis presentation is usually ten minutes maximum and it's expected that the candidates should try as much as possible to summarize key points efficiently. ✓ After your presentation, you will be given the opportunity to answer questions from the faculty members, and one can utilize the period to dive deeper into your research as it relates to the questions being asked. ✓ Time consciousness is a unique skill when it comes to defence. ✓ The departmental faculty members act as a refiner of a candidate's research work during presentation, so as to make it fit for an external supervisor. I keep learning everyday. I Use this opportunity to wish all the recently admitted graduate school candidates success in their endeavors.

My most popular LinkedIn post ever got me going really gaga about the space as would every new fox. Omo, no be lie! 😂 The energy-related post attracted a total of; 1. 16 reposts 2. 2,389 clicks 3. 375 comments 4. 1,346 reactions 5. 4,126 engagements 6. 61,168 impressions Though the post was viral - at least for me - with a greater chance of lead generation, it actually did fetch me zero “0” Naira without any tangible conversion.😂 But a recent post I just made on solar that didn’t even get up to 30 reactions helped me seal a whopping NGN 2.5 million solar deal. Some people’s posts on social media can pull a really good number of impressions but without tangible returns. This is one hard truth about social media, especially LinkedIn. At times, for the sake of one’s mental health, it’s best to take one’s eyes off the algorithm. Don’t let the noise of other people’s posts draw you out. Never! Algorithms don’t always favour every time. So, don’t feel bad if it’s not coming by. Rather, keep building your brand. Keep posting quality content. Consistency pays. YouTube is one of my reliable sources when searching for knowledge it saves me at the dime minute. With my data and quiet environment, the knowledge is passed. The app was created by OpenAl , a research organization focused on developing artificial intelligence. It's benefits include; ➡️ Accessibility to knowledge ➡️ Enhance productivity such as drafting emails, writing reports, creating contents etc ➡️ Technical and coding support for developers. It is useful for generating code snippets, debugging and so on. etc ChatGPT has become versatility tool with broad applications, empowering users to communicate more effectively, learn quickly and creatively tackle new challenges. PETAN HOSTS CLOSING CEREMONY FOR 2022/24 INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME PETAN hosted a closing ceremony yesterday at its headquarters to mark the formal closing of the 2022-2024 batch of the NCDMB/PETAN/Shell Internship programme jointly organised by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and Shell The program, designed to give young Nigerians #practical hands-on #experience and a competitive edge as they begin their #careers in the #petroleumindustry, gives young #Nigerians #opportunity for gainful #employment, thereby directly supporting the objectives of the Nigerian Content Act. The outgone batch of the programme started with 100 candidates out of which about 74 qualified in the assessment process and were assigned to different PETAN companies in October 2022, while about 26 candidates who passed a second assessment exercise joined the programme in Nov/Dec 2022. Chairman of the PETAN Internship Committee, Dr. Ibilola Amao Ph.D FEI FNSE FIoD FAEng stated in her speech at the cermony that the 2022/2024 internship programme, which covered a period of two years, started in October 2022 with 92 interns. However, along the line, 43 interns dropped out of the programme due to various reasons. "Today, we have 49 interns who successfully completed the programme and 31 of them have been gainfully employed by the various PETAN-member companies". Dr. Amao thanked PETAN's partners, the NCDMB and Shell Nigeria for their strong support for the programme, as well as PETAN members who provided the platform and expended their resources to ensure its success, the result of which has resulted in gainful employment for 31 Nigerians. "I also thank immensely, our interns, who remained resolute amid the challenges and successfully completed the programme", adding that the joint plans of the organisers to build on the experience from previous batches for a better experience with upcoming ones will entail the creation of a timely payment plan, a platform for virtual quarterly meetings with interns for networking and presentations for knowledge-sharing, which will help the interns establish a professional relationship. "We would also like to make provisions for laptops and other necessary gadgets to support the interns in their training programme. As part of efforts to lessen the onboarding process for the 2025/2027 batch and subsequent ones, we hope to provide logistics allowance to all successful interns at the point of assignment and deployment to PETAN-member companies", she added. She revealed that the next batch of the programme for the 2025 - 2027 set will commence soon, with about 26 PETAN companies having already requested for interns from a total of 112 requests in total. Some time ago, I made a post here challenging young people to take LinkedIn seriously. That's because I’m generating and converting quality leads from it and I think every other person should too. In fact, I’ve benefitted more from LinkedIn in just three (3) years than I have in my nearly 15 years of being on Facebook. Much less so on Twitter (now X) and Instagram. If anyone had told you that you can't cash out on LinkedIn? Tell them it's a lie. There's more to LinkedIn than just coming here to post content. Can I tell you something? Last month (April), I made my first 5-figure offering gas advisory service to an American investor on their budding LNG project in Nigeria. The investors met me here on LinkedIn. They took the time to go through my LinkedIn profile as well as my company page. Eventually, they reached out to me via WhatsApp and we scheduled our first virtual meeting. During the virtual meeting, they were surprised to learn that I was such a young energy consultant. But that didn't matter to them if only I could help them solve their problems, which of course, I eventually did. Now, let me say this: knowledge is not necessarily a factor of age. In other words, knowledge is not the exclusive preserve of the elderly. That's one of the things I've learned working at Bavijas Energy Consulting as their lead analyst (consultant). It may interest you also to know that in 4 months—between December 2023 and March 2024—I landed three paying roles here on LinkedIn; two as content creators for websites, and the other, as a writing coach. Although I'm naturally self-effacing about most of my achievements, I also feel the need to share some of them with young people here on LinkedIn to motivate them to keep perfecting their craft with the hope that one day e go stew for you😄 I hope this short story inspires you to take LinkedIn seriously and treat every conversation as an opportunity; be it economic or otherwise. One of the reasons—aside from poaching—why the population of lions are in decline is habitat loss. The natural habitat of lions is in the wild or forests and Nigeria’s forests deplete at an annual rate of 4%, endangering wild lives, per Bavijas Research. Ensuring Food Accessibility for Nigerians: The Farmers’ Story. Food accessibility is a critical issue in Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million persons, and agriculture a backbone of the economy. The journey of Nigerian farmers such as Mrs Elizabeth, who face numerous challenges in their quests to ensure food security is a testament to their resilience and innovation. Agriculture accounted for 37% of the employment, and 26% of the GDP in 2022, according to statistics of the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics. Despite its importance, Nigerian agricultural sector struggles with low productivity due to factors ranging from climate change, lack of access to modern farming techniques, inadequate infrastructure, price controls issues, insecurity and multiple taxation. Despite this challenges, farmers like Mrs Elizabeth have deployed various formal and informal strategies to mitigate this issues and improve food accessibility for Nigerians. Farmers like Mrs Elizabeth are increasingly adopting Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) techniques such as crop diversification, and use of hybrid seeds (that are drought resistant), which helps manage climate risk, and improve food security and improve food security. Mrs Elizabeth and co-farmers are pooling resources, sharing knowledge, and bargaining power through forming informal cooperative, which enables them access interest free funding from us, supply of water from our resources, and marketing services. This provides them a platform for training and capacity building. While food accessibility for all Nigerians requires a multi dimension approach, such as significant investment in infrastructures, research and development, adequate extension services, improved security, and adequate financing to ensure sustained productivity and sustainability. Nigeria can build a resilient agricultural sector that meets the food needs of its growing population. This is the story of Nigerian farmers and the innovative initiatives being implemented to provide hope, and inspiration for achieving food security and improving livelihoods of millions of #farmers and Nigerian households. #foodsecurity #climatechange #Nigeria

PREPARATION GUIDE FOR #PTDF Scholarship Interview. Congratulations to every Nigerian student who has been invited for PTDF scholarship interview. I have received questions from a number of applicants about the interview process. Here are a few things I believe will be helpful. On Preparation: The best approach, from my experience and those of friends, is to get familiar with your SOP(MSc.) or Research Proposal(PhD). Most questions will be around these documents. and you should be ready to answer questions related to the topic you are proposing to study. Be ready to prove that what you intend to study is relevant to the energy industry and more specifically to the oil and gas industry and the Nigerian economy. Remember that the funder is Petroleum Technology Development Fund. Know the full meaning of PTDF. I remember being asked what organization I was applying to for a scholarship during my interview. It is an interview and it will be helpful if you make your points and at every point highlight how they qualify you for the award. Have copies of required documents printed and arrive early enough to the venue. This will help control tension. You might be asked whether you are applying for a full or partial funding. Here is the difference. If you are applying to be sponsored from the first year of your program till the end of it, you are applying for full funding/scholarship. If you are already in your program and need help with completing your study or have paid your fees and just looking for living allowance, then, you are applying for partial funding. I really don't know if your response to the above question affects your chances of winning the scholarship in any way. But, I have not seen any evidence that suggests that those who request partial funding have any better chance than those of us who request(ed) for full funding. For the award, you are usually ranked against other applicants from your state of origin. The last point is the reason you need to have all your documents ready for the interview. Every single point is very important. You probably still have the opportunity to join some professional bodies or have your academic awards sent to you from your family house if you have any that you left there. I am not a staff of PTDF and these opinions are completely based on experience. The interview process may differ this year and the funding body holds the right to make such changes when they consider necessary. Earlier today, I participated in a mandatory continuing professional education session organized by the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, along with other professionals in the livestock industry. Under the expert guidance of Professor Saidu Oseni, we explored the topic “Harnessing the Power of Artificial Intelligence in Animal Agriculture.” I am particularly excited that the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, led by Professor Udo Herbert, has introduced such a relevant topic that could enhance the livestock industry in Nigeria. In the near future, we may develop a robust and resilient livestock sector powered by AI and evidence-based data. Some participants raised concerns about the economic efficiency of integrating AI into the livestock industry, especially considering the inadequate electricity supply, which would hinder continuous data collection from AI cameras and sensors. Professor Saidu Oseni emphasized that while power supply is not an obstacle in more advanced regions, we can address this challenge in Nigeria by utilizing solar energy and inverters. If we wait for all infrastructure to be perfect before embracing AI, we risk falling far behind the rest of the world in productivity. Data Gathering I Conducted a quick poll to understand members’ preferences for learning topics and formats (videos, articles, live Q&A). Data Analysis: I Found that most members preferred live Q&A sessions, specifically on data cleaning challenges. SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION I Organized a short, interactive Q&A session on Zoom, focusing on hands-on data cleaning issues relevant to our curriculum and I also designed an engaging flyer using Canva to promote the session and emphasized the benefits of live problem-solving and collaboration. Tracking Impact I Observed a 35% increase in attendance and I noticed active participation, with members asking questions, sharing insights, and showing enthusiasm for future sessions. BENEFITS OF A STRUCTURED RESEARCH SYSTEM A well-organized research system is the backbone of progress in any industry, particularly in oil and gas. R&D can be promoted by empowering citizens through government-based opportunities. One of the most exciting structure in Nigeria’s research landscape is the Technology Innovation and Incubation Center (TIIC). This initiative serves as a breeding ground for young innovators who are challenged annually to address contemporary issues in various sector including the oil and gas sector. Through a dynamic hackathon program, participants are encouraged to think critically and creatively, presenting solutions that can have a meaningful impact on the industry. The TIIC has proven successful in identifying and nurturing promising solutions. For instance, on August 24, 2023, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in partnership with the Founder Institute (FI), launched 17 new portfolio companies . By creating avenues for people to engage with real-world problems, the TIIC not only stimulates economic growth but also fosters a sense of ownership among Nigeria's future leaders. In conclusion, revitalizing Nigeria’s oil and gas industry hinges on embracing research and innovation. By fostering a strong research culture, empowering youth, and committing to technology, we can unlock the true potential of our resources.
