The Branch To BEAT!!!
About us
The idea to form the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers was initiated by Engr. Olu Awoyinfa, FNSE, FAEng, a former Secretary-General of NSE, and the move for the formation came into reality in July 1992 when a handful of Engineers working and residing in Ikeja and its environs met to consider the formation of a second branch in Lagos State to cater for their professional and social needs. Subsequently, an application was lodged with the Secretariat of the NSE the same year, and on the 31st of January, 1993, Ikeja Branch was admitted as the 32nd Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. The first Chairman of the Branch was the then Managing Director of Guinness Plc. Engr. Raphael Adeola Alabi, FNSE. From the inception, the Branch held its meetings at the old office of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) at Alausa, Ikeja; and as membership grew, it moved to the Conference Room of the Ministry of the Environment and Physical Planning (MEPP). It had to move to another location, the Conference Hall of the West African Portland Cement, Courtesy of Engr. Joe Makoju, the former Managing Director of WAPCO and now a Director at Dangote Group, when it became obvious that the former could not accommodate over 200 members who had then registered with the Branch. Today, the membership to the branch has grown in leaps and bounds so much that as many as 2,500 Engineers are on the Attendance Register and not less than 150 Engineers attend our monthly meetings.

𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐮𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch, in collaboration with the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, organized a technical visitation to the Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals Industry. This visit was a significant opportunity for engineers to learn about advanced refinery operations, and understand the facility's contribution to Nigeria's economy and environmental sustainability. The day began with a comprehensive safety induction by Nnamdi Elvis , a critical aspect of any engineering operation. Safety is the foundation of engineering practices, and the emphasis placed on it at the Dangote Refinery underscores the industry's commitment to safeguarding lives and infrastructure. Following the induction, participants were guided through various sections of the refinery. A notable highlight was the explanation of the #fractional #distillation process, which involves separating crude oil into its components based on their boiling points. Another fascinating aspect of the visit was learning about the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) process. This advanced technology transforms heavy crude oil residues into lighter, more valuable products. The efficiency and scale of the RFCC operations at Dangote Refinery are a testament to the facility's role as a leader in the petroleum industry. The refinery's commitment to environmental #sustainability was also evident. Participants were educated on the measures in place to minimize the facility’s environmental impact, including emission control systems, waste management practices, and compliance with global environmental standards. Additionally, the refinery has created numerous employment opportunities and serves as a platform for developing young engineers in the petroleum sector. The engagement with experts, particularly Mr. Raj Hooblal , the facilitator, was an enriching experience. His technical expertise and detailed explanations provided participants with valuable insights into the complex operations of the refinery. The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Ikeja Branch extends its gratitude to the Dangote Group for hosting the visitation and for their continued efforts in advancing Nigeria's engineering and economic landscape. Report: Technical Visitation to Afrimedical Manufacturing and Supplies Limited Date: 12th November 2024 The recent technical visit to Afrimedical Manufacturing and Supplies, a sister company of MIKANO INTERNATIONAL LIMITED, provided an enriching experience for both NSE Ikeja Branch members and Afrimedical staff. The tour began with a safety briefing by Engr. Olubunmi Emmanuel Akinboboye, MNSE, MNIEEE, MIAENG, R.ENGR. and was well established by Engr. Endurance Ajeghre, , followed by an overview of Afrimedical’s profile and objectives by Daniella Egbe. Afrimedical is Africa's largest syringe manufacturing company, with an impressive annual production capacity of over 1.8 billion syringes. Engr. Nimot Muili MSc, FNSE, PMP®, Chairman of the NSE Ikeja Branch, delivered a presentation on the branch’s mission and values, emphasizing capacity building, sustainability initiatives, and partnerships with academia and industry to bridge skill gaps. A highlight of the visit was the response from Afrimedical’s Managing Director Mr. Gabi Al Ardi, who expressed strong support for building local capacity and promoting productivity over consumption. The MD underscored Afrimedical’s commitment to advancing manufacturing excellence in Africa and encouraged young engineers to acquire technical skills that would make them job-ready upon graduation.
