Brown Field Day in Borae 2/Gurubi, Oti Region, Ghana! Last week, under the PROSSIVA Project, we proudly showcased the exceptional results of our demonstration plot in Gurubi, Ghana. This impactful initiative, which is strengthening seed systems across Africa, focuses on promoting high-yielding seed yam varieties to drive sustainable agricultural growth. The seed yam yield left farmers and Commercial Seed Entrepreneurs (CSEs) impressed and motivated to adopt this improved variety in the next planting season— an encouraging step towards greater food security and productivity. Special thanks to the @iita_cgiar team from Abuja, the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) representative, and the Iribov Team for their invaluable support on this journey. 🙏 #SahelConsulting #ProssivaProject #SeedYam #YamVarieties

Throwback to our study tour to India! 🇮🇳 The ALDDN (Advancing Local Dairy Development in Nigeria) team had the opportunity to explore sustainable practices that could transform the Nigerian dairy sector. Here’s what some of our team members had to say about the experience: 🔽 "The study trip to India was nothing short of being insightful and inspiring. Reflecting on the lessons learned, it’s clear that the Nigerian dairy sector requires greater coordination, a strategic plan, and pooled investments to achieve its goals." ABISOLA FASHINA, MERL Analyst "The Indian dairy sector is a testament to consistency, resilience, and good governance. The tour was exciting as I experienced what’s possible with dedication and adequate resources for dairy growth in Nigeria." Adekunle Adeoye PMP®, Project Management Consultant "Apart from gaining insights into India’s advanced dairy systems, I engaged with integrated smallholder dairy farmers in Manipur, from whom I learned sustainable practices to strengthen Nigeria’s dairy value chain." Nuru Hassan, Program Officer We've started implementing these learnings to help Nigeria’s dairy industry through our ALDDN project. In the words of our Senior Manager, Oluwafisayomi Kayode 🔽 “It is globally recognised that animal feed contributes over 70% to the success of livestock production, as it plays a critical role in the development and productivity of any livestock.” By adding cassava peel to livestock feed, farmers can reduce costs without compromising the essential nutrients required for the growth and health of the animals. This approach not only boosts profitability but also minimises waste and supports sustainable agricultural practices. Save this for later and share to promote eco-friendly farming solutions! . . #SahelConsulting #LivestockFarming #LivestockHealth #Cassava

How can we strengthen farmer and community-managed seed systems (FCMSS) in Nigeria? This was the key question at the heart of a multistakeholder workshop recently held in Abuja, organized in partnership with Wageningen University & Research. The workshop featured a presentation on FCMSS from a systems perspective and an engaging panel discussion. Key areas of focus included: - Variety deployment - Genetic resource conservation - Farmer empowerment - Climate adaptation and resilience Participants shared the importance of FCMSS, the challenges faced, and practical recommendations to enhance these systems for sustainable agricultural development. What do you think is the most significant opportunity for strengthening FCMSS in Nigeria? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! #SahelConsulting #SeedSystems #CommunityEmpowerment
