It is said that the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. Yesterday, Ndoni District (under Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, or ONELGA) came alive with festive joy as the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, organized a special celebration - giving back to her community. The quote above was brought to life as 300 school bags filled with books were distributed to eager young students, and gifts of cash, wrappers, and rice were shared with 75 widows across three Wards. During the celebration, Dr Oreh emphasized the importance of community service and the responsibility of public office. She highlighted the importance of remembering one's roots and giving back to the community that supported their journey. “We are all from somewhere,” she stated, “and we must always remember our people and carry them along.” The joy and appreciation at the event can best be captured in the words of Mrs Elizabeth Samuel, a resident of Ndoni District: “If you look everywhere, you'll find that all the widows are very happy. They've never experienced a Christmas like this. Even the children, when they see their school bags—different ones—are so happy. It's not every parent that can buy a school bag, but today we find joy.” She concluded with a prayer that resonates in all our hearts: “We pray that the grace of God will be upon her. May the good God continue to prosper you, prosper the Rivers State Government, and prosper the people of Ndoni in Jesus' name. God bless you.” #MerryChristmas2024 #CommunityService #AdaezeOreh #Riversstate

Yesterday, Dr Adaeze Oreh, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, received a donation of cold chain equipment from the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), a sub-group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. During the handover ceremony, the Commissioner said that one of His Excellency, Governor Fubara's key priorities when developing the Rivers State healthcare strategy was to attract respectful and results-driven partnerships. In her remarks, she stated: “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Oil Producers Trade Section, the 25 Nigerian companies, and the five International Oil Companies (IOCs) that form this trade section. Your contributions will directly enhance the quality of immunization and child health services across Rivers State. This is especially impactful for our remote and hard-to-reach communities, which are often neglected due to the capital-intensive nature of delivering logistics to the last mile.” The cold chain equipment will be crucial in bolstering immunization efforts across the state, ensuring better health outcomes for children in all communities. In addition, Dr. Oreh also inspected the ongoing construction of doctors' quarters and the rehabilitation of Bori Zonal Hospital. #PublicPrivatePartnerships #LCCI #Immunization #Health4AllRivers #RiversState

Yet, they continue to face discrimination, stigma, and barriers to basic rights and services. This often puts them at a disadvantage, particularly in the face of global challenges like conflict, climate change, poverty, and inequality. Today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, let's recognize the vital role of persons with disabilities. Their leadership is essential in building a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
