I’m so excited to attend the recent #EnergyInnovationChallenge symposium that serves as the official opening of the University of Lagos 4TH Edition International week   The Energy Innovation Challenge was organized as a collaboration between Fabrication Lab Unilag(FASLAB) and the Innovation Technology and Management Office (ITMO) University of Lagos.   Teams from other Nigerian universities came up with a presentation on energy innovative concepts to ease the prevalent energy challenges in Nigeria.   Fostering #RenewableEnergy majorly harnesses the abundance of sun rays in Nigeria as solar energy, which seems a better option for access to #CleanEnergy. Reducing the negative effect of fossil fuel on the environment and capital-intensive implications of hydrocarbon for generating energy.    The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof.Folashade Ogunsola OON, graced the occasion, and Dr.Manasseh Shitta the head of the Research Department of the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC), represented the Director of the Energy Centre. Professor Ismail Ibrahim the Director of International Relations, Partnership and Prospects (IRPP) University of Lagos who was one of the collaborators further explained the importance of the program. #greenenergy #energyinnovationchallenge #nceec #ennironmentalsustainability #unilag #energycommissionofnigeria

  • ECN Launches National Energy Information System in Collaboration with ECOWAS Commission The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) led by Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi (PhD, CEng, MIMechE, SPE, Coren), has officially launched the Computerized National Energy Information System at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja on November 4, 2024. Dr. Abdullahi emphasized that this landmark system aligns with ECN’s mandate to lead in strategic energy planning and policy coordination. He noted that collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations will be crucial to generating, analyzing, and utilizing energy data effectively. The new system will: Digitize energy data collection, reducing entry errors and processing time. Enhance data dissemination for improved planning and decision-making. Ensure data integrity by preventing loss and improving quality for national energy strategies. The Honorable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, commended Dr. Abdullahi for his foresight, noting that this ECN-ECOWAS collaboration will enhance planning, policy-making, and energy sector transformation for Nigeria. The Computerized National Energy Information System will be a centralized, accessible repository of Nigeria’s energy data, supporting researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders in strategic energy management. This initiative under Dr. Abdullahi’s leadership aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, driving ECN’s mission forward. ECN, Media and Public Affairs Department

As the month wraps up, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible and fulfilling October it has been. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities and experiences that came my way. Here are a few highlights: - Completed my internship at the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation. I’m deeply appreciative of the supportive environment created by Manasseh Shitta , Chimaobi Nna CEM®, CEA®, MBA , Charles Asirra EGUMA and the entire staff, who made my time there both enriching and enjoyable. - Successfully defended my internship program at my department, and I’m thrilled to say it went wonderfully! - Had the pleasure of attending impactful conferences, including the Nigeria Energy #NE2024 and West African Clean Energy and Environment conference . A special moment for me was winning a pitch in the circular economy space. Huge shout out to my teammates Timothy Agbaje and Gabriel Odigie - Proud to have been selected as a Cowrywise Student Ambassador, where I get to promote financial literacy and growth among my peers. - Excited to announce my acceptance into the Environmental Changemaker Training by Change the Chamber This program covers impactful topics like creating positive future scenarios, fostering collaboration, driving systemic change, and communicating effectively as a changemaker—all aimed at equipping us to build a more sustainable world. 🌍✨ These experiences have been so valuable, and there’s even more that I can’t fully capture here. I look forward to sharing more updates in the future.

A lecture was organized for the internship students on Electric Vehicles (EV) by the staff of the National Center for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC) the Research Center of the Energy Commission of Nigeria located at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, South West Nigeria. A visit was made to the Electric Vehicle Charging Station at the University of Lagos Campus. The Internship students had the opportunity to see the Electric Vehicle, and observe the mode of operation, and solar energy is used as the type of renewable energy source to charge the storage battery of the Electric Vehicle. Climate change is becoming an increasingly urgent issue in the global communities as you all know, the transportation sector contributes majorly to Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and their effects on the environment. Traditional gasoline-powered cars are responsible for a significant portion of these emissions, according to recent data, transportation accounts for nearly 28% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. In Europe Transport was responsible for about a quarter of the emissions, the European Union aims to achieve a 90% reduction in Greenhouse gas emissions from transport by 2050. One of the efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve climate neutrality by 2050 is using electric cars                                                            Electric cars are gaining traction representing 17.8% of all newly registered passenger vehicles in 2021 a significant increase from 10.7 in 2020. Electric vehicles have zero carbon exhaust emissions, which means improved air quality. The air quality in the average mid-sized gasoline-powered vehicle emits about 19 pounds of carbon dioxide every time it burns a gallon of fuel. That is about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. Given achieving a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 clean transportation system plays a significant role. To this, the ecological benefits of Electric Vehicles are profound and cannot be underestimated, and are also multi-dimensional. By replacing traditional fuel with renewable energy sources, electric vehicles significantly reduce carbon emissions contributing to global efforts to mitigate climate change. The shift from combustion engines to cleaner air technology reduces harmful pollutants. It promotes healthier lives and ecosystems, and wide accessibility to electric vehicles is more than just a choice it is a lifestyle commitment to a greener and more sustainable planet. The future is green, and it is closer than you think. Climate greener technologies are a global priority even with the view of the UN climate justice and climate ambition to go zero carbon emission. Carbon emissions are a leading cause of global warming contributing to the environmental degradation that affects us #greenenergy #environment #electricvehicle #NCEEC

Yesterday, on the sidelines of Nigeria's Energy Summit in Lagos, I met with staff from the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC). As one of the six research centers under the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), NCEEC plays a crucial role in researching energy efficiency and conservation. Our discussion centered on NCEEC's implementation of energy efficiency and conservation strategies across three key sectors: residential and commercial, industrial, and transportation. It was enlightening to explore how their work is driving sustainable development in Nigeria. #DMA #EnergyCommissionNG
