About us

The Enugu State SME was established in 2005 in collaboration with the Enugu State Government, to provide support for small and Medium Enterprises. The Enugu SME Center (“Enugu SME” or “Agency”) is the State Developmental Finance Institution tasked with the purview of acting as a catalyst for job creation and facilitating easier access to resources required by entrepreneurs and investors in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to achieve sustainable economic development in Enugu State. SME development is key to catalyzing sustainable economic development in any subnational. As it is, Job Creation and Access to Credit are two (2) indicators that are policy thrusts of His Excellency, Gov. Peter Mbah's economic agenda for MSME. It is also important in improving our rankings in the Ease of Doing Business rankings across the respective indicators and sub-indicators.

  • The recently held Enugu Startup Ecosystem Stakeholder Session is a pivotal moment for the future of startups in Enugu. Hosted by the Enugu SME Agency, in partnership with the Enugu State Government, and led by the visionary leadership of H.E. Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, this event was brought to you by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) through its Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI). It was dedicated to adapting the Nigerian Startup Act to fit in Enugu, ensuring that the Act’s benefits directly empower our entrepreneurs. Key government figures, including Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani, FCA, FCTI (Head of Enugu Tax Board),  Adenike Okebu ®MSc ®FCA,®CFE,®SAPFI (SA to the Governor on Revenue), Arinze Chilo-Offiah (SA to the Governor on MSMEs and Digital Economy), and Emeka Mba (Founder of Afia TV), and other esteemed speakers shared valuable insights on how the startup ecosystem in Enugu is poised for growth. From tax reliefs to startup funding mechanisms, these policies are designed to make Enugu an attractive hub for innovation and investment. The session also explored strategies to foster collaborations between local entrepreneurs, investors, and larger companies, creating a robust ecosystem for startups to thrive.   • Under the transformative leadership of H.E , Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and the visionary leadership of Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the Enugu SME Center proudly announces the successful completion of the third edition of the TVET Programme under the ITF-NECA Vocational Training initiative.  This intensive four-month program, delivered in partnership with COPEN Group, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), and C-STEMP Skills Training Centre, has equipped over 150 Enugu youths with certifications and market-ready skills in plumbing, electrical installation, maintenance, and more.  This achievement aligns seamlessly with H.E.   • The recently concluded 2nd edition of the mandatory Civil Service Digital Skills Training Program has left a lasting impression on both participants and tutors, with many sharing heartfelt testimonials about the program’s impact. Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah , this initiative is part of a broader effort to create an efficient, tech-driven public service by equipping civil servants with essential digital skills. The Enugu State Government has established systems to enhance workforce efficiency and efficacy by mandating this program as a requirement for civil service promotion. Participants highlighted how the training has not only improved their professional capabilities but also added value to their daily lives. As one participant said, “The time of analogue is gone; this is E-government.” This sentiment reflects the transformative nature of the program and its alignment with the Governor’s vision for a modernized civil service.   • The Enugu State Government through the Enugu SME Center, is proud to have partnered with key agencies such as the COPEN Group, Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), and C-STEMP Skills Training Centre to launch the Enugu SME ITF-NECA Program. This training designed to give youths hands-on skills in plumbing and electrical installation and maintainance, among others, had over 150 participants trained and certified at the 3rd version of the Amadeo Business Summit! Happiness filled the room as some participants, like “Ugwuoke Ifesinachi Daniel”, “Nwachukwu Chioma Favour” and “Illochi Stephen Nnamdi” among others, mouthed their excitement on finishing the training.   • Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and in partnership with the Enugu State Government through the Enugu SME Center, 2,125 palliative boxes have been distributed across all 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Enugu State, with each LGA receiving 125 boxes. These boxes contain essential food items, including semovita, noodles, vegetable oil, sugar, and wheat meal, aimed at supporting indigent community members during the festive season. This initiative provides immediate relief to vulnerable populations, thereby fostering economic resilience in rural communities.
