AfriRadar was founded to address the challenges faced by African startups. We observed the difficulties in the African ecosystem and started a company whose sole goal is to provide visibility and support to African startups and innovation, both locally and globally. Our vision is to be a household name in African innovation, fostering young innovators from primary schools to universities. Our upcoming product, the catalog for African startups, will feature a "Product of the Day" system, allowing new companies to launch and gain recognition through user votes. We also host competitions, accelerators, and the African Startup Summit, which features talks from seasoned speakers, pitches, investment opportunities, and brand showcases. Our yearly awards, including categories from our catalog’s ‘African Product of the Day, Month, and Year’, celebrate outstanding achievements of great innovation all over Africa. Our yearly magazine also highlights influential figures in African innovation annually. Our mission is to be a beacon of hope for African innovators, demonstrating that they can achieve greatness despite challenges. With a goal of 1 million followers by 2026 and support for 50,000 startups by 2034, AfriRadar is committed to fostering African innovation. In 5-8 months of active operation, we garnered over 100,000 content views and 1,500 followers across social media. What happens when a global powerhouse in startup acceleration suddenly decides to pull out of one of Africa’s fastest-growing tech hubs? After just two years in Nigeria, ARM Labs Lagos Techstars Accelerator has surprised everyone by shutting down its operations. This also means the third program, which started in March 2024, is now officially canceled. The accelerator's Nigerian portfolio companies include Surge Africa (Techstars'23), Rana Energy (Techstars ‘23), PressOne Africa (Techstars '23), Jump n Pass (Techstars '23), GetEquity (Techstars ‘23), Beauty Hut Africa (Techstars ‘23), Oystr Finance LTD (Techstars ‘22), Keza Africa (Techstars '22), Keble (Techstars ‘22), and Flick (Techstars ‘22). Moroccan cross-border logistics startup Colis.ma has raised $300,000 in pre-seed funding from Witamax, aiming to enhance its services in Morocco’s five largest regions and expand further into Europe and West Africa. This funding follows earlier support, including $50,000 from The Baobab Network and a $45,000 grant. Founded in 2022 by CEO Issam Darui, Colis.ma focuses on serving individuals with family connections between Morocco and Europe and SMEs in various sectors. The company has delivered over 50,000 parcels to 55 destinations across six European countries and reported a fivefold growth in the past year, reflecting a 380% increase in Annual Recurring Revenue in 2023. Colis.ma (Baobab 2023)’s services cater to Moroccan SMEs, particularly in cosmetics, artisanal goods, and organic products, aiming to help them reach European markets. With this latest funding, Colis.ma plans to expand its geographic reach and improve service quality, positioning itself as a key player in logistics between Africa and Europe.
Egyptian micromobility startup, Rabbit Mobility has raised $1.3 million to expand its fleet of electric scooters across Egypt and other North African markets. Founded in 2020 by Kamal ElSoueni, Mohamed Mansoury, and Bassem Magued, Rabbit Mobility has provided over one million rides to 450,000 users, offering a clean mobility solution for urban areas. The funding round was led by 500 Global and Untapped Global , along with a group of angel investors. This capital will fuel Rabbit’s rapid growth, helping it increase its fleet and enhance its user experience. “We’re excited to expand and make micromobility more accessible to Egyptians,” said ElSoueni. Rabbit Mobility aims to achieve profitability by year’s end, while 500 Global’s Amal Dokhan highlighted the importance of sustainable transportation solutions Rabbit is bringing to the region.
Nigeria-based startup OmniRetail Technology Limited has announced the acquisition of Traction Apps, a Lagos-based business payments platform, in a move aimed at enhancing its point-of-sale (POS) and inventory management services for African small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
