In my day-to-day job I get to meet with many different people. One interesting experience from early this year was the visit from IOI Group CEO Dato' Lee to IBG factory. I've shared my learnings from Dato' Lee before but not here, would like to recap about this valuable encounter. Three key traits I learned from the successful entrepreneur managing a multibillion conglomerate business: CURIOSITY - Never stop learning. Dato' Lee never hesitates to ask questions, showing a genuine interest in new sectors and products. His curiosity drives him to explore new ideas and innovations, which is crucial for staying ahead in any industry. HUMILITY - Despite his extensive experience and success, Dato' Lee remains humble. He showed great respect and active listening to everyone he interacted with, including me. Paying careful attention to others' perspectives and being open to learning from anyone fosters a culture of continuous growth and collaboration. I think I shocked them when I said that performance alone is not enough to guarantee job promotion Stunned silence. How well do you know your KOL and their interests? We all know this is job number 1 for any MSL. We look them up online, we scan the walls in their office, comment on their fishing trip photo, etc. But really, everyone does that. Our job is to help you distinguish yourself, so you don’t look like everyone else. Don’t lose your competitive advantage and more so your distinctiveness. Stand out in your KOL’s mind as the MSL that knows the art of the role, providing value with every interaction. Investigate the KOL’s areas of interest, practice, research, or focus. While you need to use all resources available to you internally (across your company (including commercial)) and externally (the KOL’s office staff, the office/institutions website, google, Ovid, etc.), dig deeper to discover what makes this KOL unique. This can be from your perspective, or how they believe they are unique in their field. Did they teach you something today? Did you ask them to do so? Is there a part of what they do that is so unique to you (or should be) that you focus your attention on that for a while? “Today Dr. ____ I want to let you know the latest ____ about ____, but I also have another agenda that is strictly personal. May I begin with that?” (then wait….) You can then say, “Last time we met you mentioned _____about one of your patients and ever since I wanted to ask you about how you knew that? So, if you don’t mind a few minutes on…How did you know that?!” This is critical and far more important than the fish on the wall or their golf handicap. Engaging in this kind of conversation is an intimate look into what you need most from them: How they think. If you know how someone thinks, you are ahead of the game. We can observe behavior but discovering how they think is a huge deal. It is everything, actually. Let the commercial folks talk about fishing and golf: you can have the most intimate of professional conversations by affirming what is most important to this KOL, their unique ‘take’ on the world, on their patients, on your drug. Tailoring the topic of your scientific exchange to their specific need and interest is good, noticing their unique ‘take’ is even better. “You know as I visit other KOLs they are of the mindset that ______, but you don’t. Can you tell me your thinking on that?” So, for today think about how you can unveil the uniqueness of your KOLs and stand out in the eyes. I secretly rolled my eyes when I hear people say they are hardworking during an interview. Aiyo that’s taken for granted la. If you are softworking memang cannot make it I also don’t like it so much when people say they are honest. I need more proof of your honesty. How can you prove it to me? How do I know that you don’t steal tea bags from the hotel? Sama jugak dengan ‘perfectionist’. Okla this one only half rolled my eyes. It depends what is the story behind it. So my advice is, please choose more ori answers when the interviewer asked you about your strengths. Something more better with more oomph Something that will differentiate you from other hardworking, honest and perfectionist people. The croissant is huge – and it looks so cute and delicious! You just can’t resist wanting to take a bite ! 🥐 Funny enough, it got me thinking about how creativity flows in both B2C and B2B marketing. I’ve been in B2B for the past 2 years, but to really get good at it, you’ve got to understand B2C as well. B2C helps you see how people think, what they like, and how to get them interested in what you’re offering. Frequently asked questions about CV ❓ Do I need to put a photo? No you don't have to. If you want to include a photo, make sure it’s a professional photo not just the screenshot of your IG profile ❓Do I need to put marital status? No tak payah. Actually during interview pun they are not allowed to ask about family, children, pregnancy plan etc to prevent bias ❓Should I include my salary expectation? No need to put it in the CV. It is for later negotiation when you got the job ❓How many pages is the ideal length? 1-2 pages is enough. The hiring managers are busy people and don’t have time to read long CVs ❓Do I need to include employment gap? Yes definitely. Otherwise they will discover it anyway. ❓Do I need a summary section? Yes yes it’s a must. It’s the most important part of your CV. A good summary should be able to get you the interview already. ❓Do I need to put the referee names? No need actually. If you get the job, we will ask you for reference later ❓Should I put my exam results in the CV? For new graduates, yes you can include it. But the longer you are in the workforce, then the less relevant exam results become. Your experience is what matters more ❓What kind of achievements should I put in? Don’t use the LinkedIn scheduler Because it will give you less views I was like WTH when Maverick Foo first told me this Betul ke ni? Boleh percaya ke? As an evidence based man, I of course have to find out myself So for 3 weeks I stopped using the LinkedIn own scheduler Post je at random times in the morning between 630 and 9am. Manual posting. After the first week, I can see the difference already. More views on average compared to the previous 3 weeks But I still continue for another 2 weeks. Cannot jump to conclusion. Must get more data points So jeng jeng jeng let me share you the results from my experiment The average views for the 3 weeks before I started the experiment was 6000 views For the 3 weeks after I started the experiment (not using the scheduler anymore) the average views was 12,000 A whopping 100% increase! And for Maverick, he also saw a big increase, a whopping 120% So ladies and gentleman our experiments have shown that LinkedIn own scheduler is affecting your views Dunno la why Maybe LinkedIn scheduler and LinkedIn algorithm having an internal fight or something. Gaduh-gaduh Maybe LinkedIn can comment? Of course this highly scientific experiment is only n=2, just me and Maverick. Another hectic day, which need to settle all pending paperwork’s. Tbh, I’m not good in monitoring and tracking all paperwork process because my major interest is to develop new interesting ideas (im marketing style person anyway haha). 😜 But after repeating the same routine in paperwork task, I realise that it is not about interest. It is just a basic process. Things that I learn by doing all these things are trying to arrange my time accordingly & MUST BE SMART to prioritize your work. We must be smart enough to mange our routine. And… the most important thing is to be chilled 😎 After all, we are human. Can’t achieve 100% ofcoz. But at least try your best in anything regardless related to work or life 🫰🏼 I’m quite proud of myself coz I feel like I’m not good enough if related to paperwork thingyyy but usually I’ve done well on it. Then what’s my point actually? MANAGE YOUR TIME WELL. Kudos to Aiza!

Bad behaviour in your team? Prepare for their exit. Don't waste your time trying to fix it After many years of working, I’ve realised that bad behaviour cannot be fixed. Memang tak boleh. If anyone in your team is showing bad behaviour, then it’s time to prepare for their exit. If they are often late for meetings, not respecting you and other team members, intentionally not completing the assigned tasks to them, then these are the signs of bad behaviour. I used to try and coach them to fix the problem but after a few attempts, I realised now that it is just a waste of time. Because they have no interest or intention to fix it. In my honest opinion, being too honest is not good during interview I don’t mean that you should lie but some things are better left unsaid. Tak payah cerita semua benda. What does seri.a.l k.i.l.l.er (sk) and manifestation have in common? You might think I gone mad…. Maybe I did, lets see! I honestly do think that there is so much to learn from sk and especially how they manifest. They are the most powerful manifestos in the world. You probably screaming at this point “what?! And why?!” Because they never failed. Sk are written off by the society fast, which forbids us to look at situations from multiple angles… My job is to understand ab.us.e - how a.bus.ers and sk think to prevent these things happening for my clients and teach other practitioners how to support their clients as best as possible. But I have noticed something unexpected in my analysis, the intelligence and creativity that has been used, I was honestly impressed! This is not admire what sk and a.b.u.sers did with their victims, we are going beyond that, what they did is not supported here by any means. If you watched on Netflix “Mindhunter” you get where I am coming from. If you haven’t – I aim to learn from even horrendous experiences. And let me tell you, if anyone can turn the most unconventional, creative techniques into a superpower that can actually benefit you to get everything you want...and more...you bet it will be me.
