Balancing tight budgets for staff training. How can you craft impactful programs for your team members?
My boss gave directives, ‘Zero Budget, Zero Cost Training”. Our three prong strategies: 1. Staff to deliver training based on their expertise and interests. I personally conducted TTT to help them skilled on delivering training. We included that as an element of their KPI. 2. We partnered with various government agencies and NGOs who are more than happy to have their programs delivered and more importantly, they have visibility with our organization and employees. 3. This is most important, we took advantage of the frugalness, and implemented competency based training and competency based TNA to ensure no misses on the impact of training.

You're managing a team member with mixed performance. How can you help them reach their full potential?
As mentioned earlier, my old Boss in Army, would always ask me if I need anything to get my job done, and done well. By doing so, I do not have any excuses to not do my job well and he is telling me, I have my eye on you. For him, my success is his success as a leader.

You're managing a team member with mixed performance. How can you help them reach their full potential?
As leaders, many of us are not good at this. We either lower the standards to accommodate or have moving targets. Either way it can be exasperating and frustrating for employees. So, naturally after a while, what do employees do, they give up, and perform enough not to be fired, but not enough to excel. Set clear goals and out. But, do not leave them alone. Provide the support. My old boss in the Army, after giving me assignments, would asked me, if I needed his help. Nowadays, many bosses don’t do that.

You're managing a team member with mixed performance. How can you help them reach their full potential?
Having consistent and continuous conversations, formal and informal helps. Far too many times, both bosses and subordinates get caught with “this is what I think”, “or this is what I think he/she is thinking”, reality both are wrong. Both are making assumptions and filling up the gaps. This is not say leaders should be friends with their subordinates. But, at least be friendly. Conversations, listening, are so underrated yet, a universal commonality.
