If they don’t know you, they won’t love you. Or as we say in Malay, “Tak kenal maka tak cinta”. It’s a saying that I like to use, and embodies a fundamental principle that every marketer knows: Awareness is everything. Because while every brand’s decision-making process is different, this model stays constant: A: Awareness I: Interest D: Desire A: Action You can’t skip any of the steps and expect your brand to grow and convert in the future. Especially not the first step - awareness - because of the 95/5 rule. Which refers to the fact that only 5% of your audience is ready to buy today while the remaining 95% are just in browsing mode. To capture the 95% market, you need to start investing in them today so that you’ll be top of mind when they are ready to buy! * So what would capturing the 95% market look like? Let’s illustrate with an example: I want to sell homemade sambal but I can’t compete with Khairul Aming. He’s too huge and has all the attention. Or does he? As a business owner, I need my business to survive (by making sales) but I also need it to grow. Which is why awareness campaigns are so important. But awareness campaigns aren’t confined to the traditional Facebook ad campaigns or newspaper ads. I would also focus on hosting booths at the likes of Jom Heboh by TV3 Group —an annual carnival with huge crowds, celebrities, and booths selling products at discounts. And if I can’t get into Jom Heboh itself because it is out of my budget, I’d try out some guerilla marketing tactics like hanging outside its perimeter. You’d be surprised by how effective these physical campaigns can be. And how important it is to start small, but be consistent. While always putting your story out into the world. Most people require at least 7 touch points before they’re motivated to buy from you. And those touch points might need to be spread out over years before they begin to have an impact. So if you’re running a business today, don’t sleep on the 95% market. Invest in your top of the funnel. To ensure that your target market knows and loves you! Welcoming a new team member is like hosting a kenduri.. You want everyone to feel the warmth and syok from the start! 1. First things first, the intro tour.. no, not just the cubicles! Show them the real hot spots: the pantry (vital), the shortcut to the best kopitiam, and of course, where the Wi-Fi is power lah. 2. Pecah the ice casually.. throw in “Can lah!”, “Jom lunch?”, or even a “How’s everything, boss?” into the mix. Manglish always does the trick to make a newcomer feel right at home. 3. Introduce the unwritten office rules.. every office has its secret codes, like “Don’t sit in boss’s favourite chair” or “Beware of the 3 pm printer jam”. These are the survival tips that no handbook covers. 4. Organize a proper welcome lunch.. what better way to break the ice than with a good meal? Whether it’s nasi lemak, chicken rice, or a quick mamak run, good food equals good vibes. Pro tip: Let them in on the team’s favorite order, but let them discover roti sarang burung themselves! 5. Be patient with their ‘blur’ moments.. we've all been there. Whether it’s asking “how to print?” or “where’s the toilet again?”, remember: today’s ‘blur’ colleague could be tomorrow’s office hero. 6. Celebrate small wins early.. if they manage to survive their first meeting without getting lost in the agenda, or they nail that first presentation, give them a virtual high five or rain showers. People may notice an advertisement, but if there is no clear call to action, their interest may wane. What makes a CTA compelling enough for consumers to take action? Here is what I would recommend to craft a winning speech for your brand ceremony. 📌Consider the culture you are in; because the ceremony was honouring restaurants in Malaysia, I started the speech with a greeting in the local language. This makes the audience feel warm because now they know you care about a core part of who they are, and you are not just there to talk about your business. 📌In the body of the speech, include some honouring facts about the people or country that you are in. For instance, in the speech I wrote, I highlighted how Malaysia is known for its various cuisines that are passed down from one generation to the next and praised the listeners for their rich culinary history. 📌Discuss why the ceremony is important for people's lives, the environment, or the industry. 📌 Conclude the speech with a powerful statement about what your brand stands for and how those values complement the event. 📌Mention all dignitaries such as sponsors.
