Today was a day mix of positivity and negativity. Was ecstatic to be able to go back to KL to support my M'sia team at our MC Baby Expo for the 1st time in Pavilion Bukit Jalil. I would say it was a resounding success of Mumsclub. From just a small marketing agency, to a large scale Expo organiser. Credits to the team who made it happen. This is the positive. Ended the night with some drinks and chat with my colleagues whom I first got acquainted and grew with them when I first joined the company. Not only 1 but at least 3 of them have resigned to my horror. After what I've learnt from them. Then I found out what was the underlying reason. It was an apparent case of Mismanagement of Staff. This manager singlehandedly caused the 'mass staff exodus' with micromanaging, overstepping in authority, top down communication only. Longest serving in the company even thought performance was subpar. So in this scenario, what will you as a CEO or business owner do to ensure the survival of your business and retain good staff? Something for us to reflect as managers. And this is the negative to end the day.

Great learning! This beautiful bright blue sky sparks hopes. And I wanted to share some observations and thoughts with you. Recently, in conversations with various strategic leaders, I’ve noticed a trend: since the MCO, there's been a shift towards a more laid-back attitude in the workplace. The preferences of the newer generation are also influencing work and dress code cultures. However, addressing this shift seems to be a delicate topic for HRs. Here's my take: While that laid-back vibe can be refreshing, there’s a fine line between being relaxed and being too relaxed. That’s where balance comes in. 𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙙𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 Let’s talk about what we wear. Casual dress codes are great—they allow us to feel comfortable and be ourselves. But even in a relaxed environment, what we wear still speaks volumes. If we’re too casual, it can sometimes make others question whether we’re serious about our work. The trick is finding that sweet spot: 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴. It’s about respecting yourself and the people you interact with. You want to reflect the laid-back vibe of your workplace, but also show that you’re ready and capable. 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙨 The same goes for communication. It’s easy to slip into a laid-back tone or take your time responding, but that can lead to misunderstandings or missed chances. Sure, being informal can make conversations feel more natural and friendly, but we still need to be clear, respectful, and timely. When you’re talking or emailing someone, think about how your words will come across. Are you making yourself clear? Are you showing that you value their time and input? 𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 The key to thriving in today’s laid-back work culture is all about balance. Being relaxed has its perks—it sparks creativity, lowers stress, and makes you more approachable. But if we’re too relaxed, it can lead to missed deadlines, weakened relationships, and a lack of professionalism. So, it’s about knowing when to turn up the professionalism a notch, without losing that relaxed, authentic vibe. Whether it’s in how you dress or how you communicate, it’s all about showing that you’re adaptable and aware of the situation. At the end of the day, striking that balance is what sets you apart. It’s the difference between being seen as just laid back and being recognized as a capable, reliable professional who knows how to handle any situation with ease. 🌟 Courage is not the absence of fear, but action despite fear 🌟 As you all know, after 8 years of teaching at Sunway University, I decided to step out of my comfort zone of academic teaching and dive into the world of corporate training full-time. The transition was anything but easy. Moving from the stability of an assured monthly income to earning only when I secure a training engagement was daunting. The thought of teaching adults with years of corporate experience instead of academic students was equally challenging. But I took the plunge anyway. And guess what? I secured corporate training engagements in the first month itself! The fear and uncertainty I felt initially melted away as I started delivering training sessions. It reaffirmed my belief that courage is not the absence of fear, but action despite fear. As an Accountant by profession and Head of Finance in the corporate world for most of my corporate life, I initially focused on teaching Accountancy, Business Management, and Finance. However, I soon embraced AI and ChatGPT at a deeper and more advanced level. This shift allowed me to guide corporate executives in understanding how they can leverage AI to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness. The response has been overwhelmingly positive! By helping these professionals see the bigger picture of what they can achieve with AI, I’ve found a new sense of purpose and fulfillment in my career. If you're considering a career transition that you feel resonate with you but you have some fear, I encourage you to embrace the discomfort and take that first step. Co-creating a successful #BusinessStrategy goes beyond the high level. It must drive #Ownership and #Execution. This is the objective of engaging Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) Heads of Department towards crafting their #DepartmentalScorecards. Now that they have undertaken this step, their scorecards need to be reviewed and challenged by the top leadership team. A few sessions have been scheduled so that CEO Amil Izham Hamzah, Vice Chancellor SAMSINAR MD SIDIN, COO Mohamed Fairuz and CFO Muhamad Firdaus Jamal are able to appreciate, challenge and ultimately endorse the scorecards. The top question each of them should be able to answer: "Why can't your KPIs be stretched further?" By answering this straight-forward question, we will be able to validate how #SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-based) their scorecards are. 🚀 3rd Assignment Update - Governor House IT Initiative Quarter 2 🚀 Assalamualaikum everyone! 🙌 I'm excited to share the completion of my 3rd assignment for the Governor House IT Initiative, and it has been a fantastic learning experience! For this task, I was required to: 1. Create three route pages: Home, About and Contact. 2. Link all components together using the Link component. 3. Add navigation for all routes using buttons and useRouter. 4. Study Parent and Child components, focusing on how to pass data through props. 5. Read up on routing in Next.js to deepen my understanding. 💡 This assignment was a great opportunity to dive deeper into the core concepts of Next.js, particularly around routing and component communication.
