Perihal kami
WorldFish is an international, nonprofit research and innovation institution that creates, advances and translates scientific research on aquatic food systems into scalable solutions with transformational impact on human well-being and the environment. Its mission is focused on SDG 2: Zero Hunger but pays special attention to SDG 14: Life Below Water, leveraging both of these goals to score progress on other multiple SDGs. Research explores the potential of aquatic food systems as an important source of food and their role in the global transformation of food systems toward healthier and sustainable diets in the face of climate crisis. For over 45 years, WorldFish has firmly established itself as a global leader in research and innovation in sustainable and equitable aquatic food systems. Its work has enhanced the lives of millions of low- and middle-income people who depend on aquatic food systems for food, nutrition, livelihoods and overall well-being. Supported by a diverse network funders and investors aligned to shared goals, it has a global presence in 20 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific with 460 staff of 30 nationalities, deployed where the greatest sustainable development challenges can be addressed. WorldFish is part of One CGIAR, the world’s largest agricultural innovation network, whose mission is to “end hunger by 2030 through science to transform food, land and water systems under threat of climate change.” WorldFish is committed to promoting a work environment where diversity and inclusion is valued and we seek to have gender balance in the organization. We aim to also seek balance across other diversity dimensions. People in WorldFish are treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnicity/race, national or social origin, disability, religion, political affiliation, age, family size, marital status or any other form of personal identity.

📣Cameroon 🇨🇲 is an African country with aquaculture development potential. Since 2000 to 2010, the Aquaculture Compact of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) project has been working to upscale and disseminate technologies to increase the productivity and income of fish farmers, increase fish protein consumption, and enhance sustainability across the aquaculture value chain in west and central Africa. A recent meeting between WorldFish’s Rodrigue Yossa and Dr. Taiga, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries, and Animal Industries of Cameroon, discussed opportunities to strengthen our partnership and expand this research and innovative work by improving the enabling environment for aquaculture technology adoption by local fish farmers and value chain local actors. 🤝We thank the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries, and Animal Industries of Cameroon again and look forward to more collaborations in the new year. #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #FoodPolicy #BlueEconomy #Fisheries #Aquaculture #FoodSecurity #NutritionSecurity #LivelihoodSecurity #Climate #SharedProsperity #Dryland #Desert #IntegratedSystem

📣As we aim to expand our efforts in mangrove research in India, WorldFish was honored to be invited by Environment Agency Abu Dhabi and UNESCO to share insights on our mangrove conservation work, with a special focus on the Sundarbans—the world’s largest transboundary mangrove ecoregion. Led by Sourabh Kumar Dubey, the 1st International Mangrove Conservation and Restoration was an excellent platform to kick off the expansion of this research area and build collaborations to move the needle forward. #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #FoodPolicy #BlueEconomy #Fisheries #SmallScaleFisheries #Aquaculture #FoodSecurity #NutritionSecurity #LivelihoodSecurity #Equity #Justice #Climate #SharedProsperity

Day 3:#D4N2024 A powerful deep dive into connecting research with action in South Asia. The lessons learned here are universally applicable to all regions where #WorldFish operates. 🌍💡 Key Takeaways: 1. Practical Solutions, Not Just Data 📊➡️💡: Food systems research must bridge the gap between evidence and actionable, contextualized solutions. 2. Policy as a Catalyst for Change 🏛️🔑: Research must actively engage in shaping policy, not just observe it. 3. Governance & Financing Matter 💰⚖️: These remain critical areas that demand our attention and action. 4. Integrating Gender, Equity, and Climate 🌱⚧🌎: Gender, equity, social inclusion, and climate change must always be central to crafting solutions, as they directly impact the outcomes we strive for. See video below for a reflection of day 3 plenary session 👇🏿 Excited to take these lessons forward! 🚀 #ResearchToAction #Foodsystems #nutritiongovernance Jacob Korir Gianna Bonis-Profumo Namukolo Covic Dr. Mercy Lung'aho Purnima Menon

📣 Recently, a dynamic group of researchers, policymakers, and development partners convened in Jakarta to discuss how research can inform policy-making that benefits the resilience, inclusivity, and preparedness of communities in ASEAN. The event featured a series of moderated panel discussions on climate resilience, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable health systems, with insights on how evidence-based policies can lead to tangible, positive outcomes in countries. WorldFish's intervention was led by Eddie Allison who shared how our nature-and-action-based research in aquaculture is contributing to the sector’s rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific. Yet, more effective policies, and incentives are needed, particularly for small and medium-scale aquafarms.
