Imagineers Film is a production and creative agency which specialises in storytelling-driven branding. Founded by Malaysian filmmaker Reuben Kang, we use the art and science behind stories to turn customers into brand advocates. Our team comprises seasoned creative and production professionals, each adding diverse skillsets to bring great brand stories to life. Our name Imagineers says it all. Derived from a combination of Imagination and Engineers, we use a mix of creativity and ingenuity in helping brands meet their objectives. We approach every project by starting from the strategy – Where is the brand now? Where does it want to go? Who is it speaking to? By digging deep to answer these difficult questions, our creative works are more than just pretty visuals. They solve problems and deliver real world results. The best strategy means nothing if your audience isn’t interested to hear it. Here, we use our storytelling expertise to craft ideas that resonate with people on that authentic, emotional level.   • 🎬𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐧𝐞-𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐭🎬 Creating a 𝘰𝘯𝘦-𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 shot is always a rewarding challenge—it truly takes a village to achieve it. We had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the ever-talented Jenn Chia on 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈'𝒔 𝑮𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒂 𝑮𝒊𝒇𝒕 for Dyson's hair care range. This feat was the result of 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. Every detail mattered, especially for the outfit change scene—there was no room for error, as budget and time constraints meant we couldn’t afford to tear or damage the outfit. From designing adaptable costumes to rehearsing intricate transitions, our Art Department, Stylist team, and Production team worked tirelessly alongside Jenn to ensure everything was perfect. Each step of the process demonstrated how thorough preparation is key to achieving a flawless end product, combined with a touch of post-production magic.   • '𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬' We’re thrilled to share that our festive web film, 𝑭𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝑻𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 for Etiqa Insurance and Takaful CNY 2024, has received a Merit at the Kancil Awards for Craft Direction last Friday! This recognition means the world to us, but today, we want to shine the spotlight on the 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 who brought this story to life. When we began this project, we knew the characters we wrote were layered and complex—far from one-dimensional. These were roles that demanded nuance, subtlety, and depth. So, instead of taking the conventional route of hiring ‘talents,’ we sought 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴—true artists who could breathe life into the story. But we were taking a leap of faith. This wasn’t a cast of lead roles; these were supporting characters. And in our experience, not every actor is eager to step into the background. Yet, this ensemble proved us wrong. We had the privilege of working with: 🎭 𝐉𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐨𝐨𝐧 – Best Actor at the 4th Golden Awards 2017 (NTV7) 🎭 𝐘𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐠 – Best Actor at the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival and nominee for Best New Performer at the 56th Golden Horse Awards 🎭 𝐉𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐧, 𝐋𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐆𝐨𝐡𝐫 – Artists celebrated for their work in local film Ola Bola, The Kid from the Big Apple and local drama Lion Girl respectively. Each of them brought something extraordinary to this film. Even in moments without dialogue, their presence—through sheer acting and being—added layers of emotion, realism, and heart. They made the film 𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳. Collaborating with actors of this caliber is a unique experience. It’s about setting the parameters, sharing the vision, and letting them work their magic. Much like working with a cinematographer or composer, it’s a partnership rooted in trust and respect for their craft. This award is as much theirs as it is ours. Thank you, Jordan, Yuan Teng, Jian Wen, Lion, and Jack, for bringing your artistry to 𝑭𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝑻𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓. Autism, while known, is still rarely discussed in our community, especially around the sensory challenges like sensitivity to bright lights and loud sounds.   • 𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 has been one of our proudest work this Deepavali. Conventionally, Deepavali ads revolve around heart-warming topics such as festivities, family and culture. However, we wanted to shine a light on the true essence of Deepavali – celebrating the victory of light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. This sparked an ideal collaboration with Taylor's University, which has never shied among from championing hard-hitting social issues such as discrimination, gender equality, disability and more. For this Deepavali, the topic of choice was a timely one regarding cyberbullying. With statistics showing Malaysia as one of worst nations in the world for cyberbullying, as well as increasing high profile incidents, there was a great need to address cyberbullying’s devastating effects and how society should respond. Rather than focusing on the bully or victim, 𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑰𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 looks to the average bystander and challenges them to stand up. The ad also featured a cameo by local Indian influencer Arwind Kumar, adding prominence to a message which has organically made waves among Malaysian audiences and news outlets like Free Malaysia Today and Astro Awani. As we celebrate Deepavali, the festival of lights, this film serves as a timely reminder that each of us holds the power to brighten even the darkest corners of the digital world.
