Why is there no systemmatic support for these men? How and when did you learn English? At school? As an adult? Did you follow the CEFR levels framework? Not sure what it is? There are 6 main CEFR levels (from A1 to C2) f.e. A1-A2 is Beginners, B1-B2 is Intermediate, C1. Honestly, I get a bit bored writing about it 😆 , but I believe you get the picture. ❓ So what level are you on? Do you know? Does it really matter? 💥 THE SHORT ANSWER is: NO! Unless it's a requirement, you should not care about this whole framework, full stop. You want results and you want them fast, right? 💬 Let me give you a bit of an explanation here. Why do I dare fight this system? 👓 When I worked as an English teacher for XXX English language institution in Rome (the name has little importance, it is usually the same old curriculum you have to follow in most of such schools) I came to realize how LITTLE SIGNIFICANCE the CEFR framework actually had for 70-80 percent of my students. Why? 🚴‍♀️ One of the major drawbacks of adhering strictly to CEFR levels is the lack of a clear finish line. 👥 Many students may feel that simply reaching a certain level—be it A2, B1, or B2—equates to proficiency, yet this false sense of achievement often neglects the practical aspects of language use. 🙅‍♀️ In reality, achieving a CEFR level does not necessarily translate to the ability to communicate effectively in real-world situations. Instead of serving as a motivating goal, these levels can become arbitrary checkpoints that fail to inspire learners to practice speaking English. 💫 Alternative? 🥇1. First of all, you need to get clear on your English objectives and ask yourself why you want to reach them. 🎆 Do you need English for work? 🎇 Do you want to speak better English because you want to do it for your satisfaction? 🔰 There are no wrong answers here. 🥈 ⚒ 2. Then, you need to decide on the strategy and the tools you are gonna use to reach your objective. 🛑 Try being realistic and don't believe marketing slogans that say you can get fluent in 30 or 60 days. 🔥 Do you want to do it alone or do you need help from a professional English teacher? 🔆 It might take more time, it might take less time, but you will get there if you do things right. ❌ And one more thing. Do not feel the need to follow the mainstream. Everyone's relationship with English is different, people's expectations are different. This is why your studying routine should reflect your own needs. 🚀 You can do this, but you need to stop thinking about it and actually take action. Necropolitics, a term coined by philosopher Achille Mbembe, refers to the power structures that determine who may live and who must die. Traditionally, this concept has been applied to sovereign states and governments, particularly in contexts of war, colonization, and oppression. Yet, as schools increasingly become microcosms of broader societal power dynamics, necropolitics is not just an abstract theory—it operates within the walls of educational institutions. In schools, particularly those serving marginalized communities, we witness a subtler yet devastating exercise of necropolitical power, where decisions about which lives are valued and which are disposable shape the futures of students, particularly students of color. In the context of schools, necropolitics functions through policies, practices, and cultural norms that render certain students, especially students of color, more vulnerable to symbolic and literal forms of "death." While this may not manifest as physical death, it involves the slow erasure of life chances: the death of opportunity, the death of hope, and the stifling of potential. Educational necropolitics manifests in exclusionary discipline practices, unequal access to resources, the criminalization of students, and the ways certain bodies are policed more harshly than others. Students of color, particularly Black and Indigenous students, are more likely to experience harsh disciplinary actions, to be labeled as "disruptive" or "unruly," and to face surveillance in the form of school resource officers and metal detectors. This heightened policing within schools reflects the broader societal necropolitical forces that deem these lives as more disposable, less worthy of nurturing or investment. #schooltoprisonpipeline #necropolitics

Value-added* for modern languages is far higher for languages other than #French, #German and #Spanish according to FFT Education's datalab 🧐 What's interesting here is that VA for the the 'big 3' is actually minus! 📉 It's a combination of severe grading* resulting in lower comparable grades for #MFL and... the fact that most learners who take a language other than Fr, Ger & Sp do so because they speak it outside the classroom. My key take aways are... ✨ importance of separating out the languages when doing analysis to understand what is driving the data ✨ continued impact of severe grading and how that effects which learners choose to or are allowed to take #languages for #GCSE and beyond These kinds of measures impact the inclusivity of the subject and how #languagelearning is perceived by learners.
