Our Responsible Gambling QA Manager, Taina Grech, attended NEXT.io RG Symposium on 11 November in Malta. During the “Operator Hot Seat” session, Taina joined a great discussion led by moderator Robert Mabbett, where they explored Kindred's commitment to the Journey Towards Zero and the real-world challenges we face along the way. At Kindred we share the growing concern in the Swedish gambling market: the rise of unlicensed operators. This trend poses serious risks to players and undermines the regulated industry. In an article by SPER Spelbranschens Riksorganisation, Sweden’s Gambling Industry Association, five key actions to protect consumers and ensure a safer, healthier gambling environment are being proposed. Policymakers are urged to:  🔸 Ban unlicensed operators from accepting Swedish players.  🔸 Explore options to block unlicensed sites.  🔸 Strengthen Spelpaus and increase resources for support services.  🔸 Restrict payday loans used for gambling.  🔸 Implement a loan-stop register to prevent financial harm. Our third Quarter 2024 Report highlights strong performance. 🔹 A strong quarter with total revenue of GBP 294.5 million, marking a 4% increase compared to the same period last year, boosted by the final stages of the Euros and the Olympic Games in Paris. 🔹 Our scalable business model delivered underlying EBITDA of GBP 63.4 million, a remarkable 49% increase compared to Q3 last year. 🔹 The Euros and the start of the football season across key markets helped drive a 9% increase in our active customer base. Kindred Group's CEO Nils Andén concludes the report: "With the public offer by FDJ - La Française des Jeux now completed, and as we enter the next exciting chapter of Kindred’s journey, I want to take a moment to thank Kindred’s investors, both past and present. Twenty years as a public listed company on Nasdaq Stockholm have now come to an end. Our latest Journey Towards Zero report shows a slight increase in high-risk player revenue for Q3 2024 at 3.2% (from 3.0% in Q2). However, we’re pleased to share that 87.3% of detected customers exhibited improved behaviour following interventions, showing steady progress compared to previous quarters. This demonstrates our ongoing commitment to identifying and addressing risky behaviour while continuously refining our interventions to promote safer gambling habits. "The rise in high-risk revenue presents a challenge in the third quarter, which reinforces the need for further advancements in our behavioural harm detection and automated intervention systems," says Esther Scheepers, Head of Responsible Gambling at Kindred Group. "We are currently upgrading our detection system with a new improved system, enabling us to integrate more robust compliance features and optimise our approach to safer gambling. Our Country Manager, Anders Falk, was recently featured on Ekonomibyrån, a podcast-style TV program in Sweden. During the discussion, Anders and other prominent guests explored the Swedish gambling market after the 2019 re-regulation. Since then, licensed operators have been required to follow a strict duty of care to help protect customers from gambling harm. However, the unlicensed market is growing, and channelisation levels in Sweden are decreasing. According to the treatment organisation Spelfriheten 8 out of 10 customers who contact them are blocked from licensed operators through the national exclusion system, Spelpaus. In the episode, Anders highlighted that, through our partnership with Swedish Elite Football, we educate players across all 32 clubs to raise awareness about problem gambling and match-fixing. Collaboration and increased awareness among all stakeholders have been identified as key factors in reducing gambling harm.
