The Fall Of Avalon
06:47
|
|||
The fall of the great fairy kingdom of Avalon was the saddest day in all of Fae history.
Though Celia had seen Men once or twice
her two Fae younglings had never laid eyes
on such creatures, until the night of which i tell
when they stormed the city and Avalon fell.
Fae mother Celia with 3 children ran
to escape the city, when she met the 1st man.
His name Daughlin Craig, and his sword was drawn
but when he saw the young mother, he lowered it down
He let them pass, and a tear on the face
of one of the children Daughlin Craig wiped away.
The tear left a mark on his hand, a sign
his family would carry the rest of their line
...
Fae mother Celia with 3 children ran
to escape the city, when she met the 2 man.
His name, Tobias Miller and his sword was unsheathed
he would not let her pass unless she paid him a fee
A glowing moonstone from around her neck
she gave the man before she took her children and fled
but when Tobias Miller got home after siege had stopped
the moonstone was now naught but a small black rock
Though he threw it away in mad disgust
his very young son eyed it and picked it back up
enchanted by its glow until he too grew up
and reached the age where he too saw only black rock
however no matter any attempt
to get rid of the rock, it never left
Bury it, throw it, whatever was tried
it remained in their family the rest of their line
...
Fae mother Celia had reached the gates
of the fallen city and was almost safe
in the forest beyond whatever kin she had left
who hadn't already died in the defense had fled
She met the 3rd man then, Malachi Smith
and sword drawn he ordered that payment be met
but jewelry and baubles were not what he like
he wanted pay of a more... intimate kind
Fae mother Celia did what she must
the man grunted and smirked and let them go past
she and her children fled into the night
carrying what would become of the man's baby inside

Amanda Craig

A strange girl Amanda Craig, odd and distracted and
wild eyed with stories of friends she had made
who lived in the woods and whenever she could
she would run off to play with throughout all the day
And weep not my child, for who
One night's dance, a life will see you through
A strange girl Amanda, that mark on her hand
and when taunted she'd just glide oblivious by
But some had decided in scorn and despisement
her torment would taste good and thus by and by
The bullies they badgered and bothered and beat her
til one Monday when they no longer went near
They came to school with an odd look of strange terror
avoided her, trembled, even cried a few tears
And weep not my child, for who
One night's dance, a life will see you through
By mid teens Amanda was absent so often
some say she ran naked through forests at night
Her parents would shrug and exchange glances knowing
the woods were her mate and the fairies her guides
Adults now, those bullies invoked the authorities
"for her own good we must put her away"
It took time to capture but in the asylum
for 60 years they threw Amanda Craig
And weep not my child, for who
One night's dance, a life will see you through
At 85 in an old home sat Amanda
and also those bullies who put her away
Old now they all watch TV in the Commons
until the warm night when the fairies they came
Weep not my child for Amanda
they Fae came the night 'fore she died for this one last soiree
Weep not my child for the bullies
for out of the window they climbed and danced with the Fae
And though on that night they all died from exhaustion
they begged her forgiveness with tears in their eyes
They all agreed it was the finest, the greatest
the most sublime night they had had in their lives
and weep not my child, for who
One night's dance, a life will see you through

If on weekends you go wild, dress up then go out to play
pop some pills and feed your head then just dance the night away
if you feel it's getting stale, the same of thrills from week to week
they say Eli has the cure, the Onyx Ticket that you seek
The hidden party, all those strange old rumors that you've heard
it's so fierce that it blows minds, some who go just don't return
Nothing wilder exists, it's invite only and
if you want an Onyx Ticket then Eli Miller is your man
Eli is my cousin and the thing that no one knows
our family has a curse from very long ago
Each generation has a chosen one who comes along
who inherits the black rock and whose life is not that long
At 16 it begins, they disappear at night
taken to some ballroom both refined and brutal wild
Dancing with the fairies, taken night by night
what a thrill but you will drop dead from fatigue by 25
The black stone, it's the key and it's in the family line
it's the beacon how they find you and no matter how you try
you cannot lose it but you just might loan it for a spell
it's the Onyx Ticket that Eli Miller sells
If on weekends you go wild, dress up then go out to play
pop some pills and feed your head then just dance the night away
there's a party that's so wild, it makes madmen out of sane
rent the black rock ticket, go in Eli Miller's place

A bit strung out he floats the streets
travails by trading tricks for treats
scoffs at futures and at pasts
and paints the night long as luck lasts
His parents told him long ago
"We had a baby boy you know
one night the fairies came and boom
replaced our son and gave us you"
They tried to put one through
but yeah we knew
When very young a friend had he
a fairy only he could see
together all the time they'd play
and she's still with him to this day
The only friend who ever really stayed
not went away
At 12 he left, went to the streets
for reasons why we'd best not speak
The fairy, she went with him too
they forge their way the city through
What else did you expect them both to choose
They make do
Alas as adolesence raged
his fairy friend began to fade
she's still there, it's just his eyes
with age they cannot see her kind
Alone in pale, grey cities of the blind
he's now confined
But there's a drug, a rusty sand
it's all the rage, he takes it and
when he's high again he sees
his fairy friend he can perceive
Together is just how they're meant to be
It's all he needs
So a bit strung out he floats the streets
his teenage years taste nice and sweet
to certain married men with cash
He paints the night long as luck lasts

The House Of Children
04:50
|
|||
The house loved the presence of children. They were the only thing that could satiate its deep, ever malingering loneliness.
The house already had two children when it appeared down the street from Emma.
The townspeople eyed it carefully and waited.
Emma and her friend Connor were curious about this old house that just appeared one day. It had a lovely garden and while playing in the yard they met the two children already living there.
Eventually they were invited inside to eat. On the dining room table was a wonderful feast with every food a child could want. They ate ravenously then were shown to an upstairs bedroom where they fell asleep.
The house, having happily gained two more children, moved to another street across town taking Emma and Connor forever with it.
Little by little the house collected a menagerie of bright children. They ran about playing games, screeching, eating and always obeying the one cardianl rule the house imposed upon them: never open the basement door.
The townspeople watched the house carefully and waited.
Emma learned all kinds of games and would often look after the younger ones. Some nights, when the others were asleep, she eyed the basement door carefully and waited.
The primal forces that propel life can only be held at bay for so long. Thus it was inevitable that someone would open the basement door. Someone always did. This time it was Emma.
The basement wasn't the funland the rest of the house was. The basement was... cool. They started hanging out down there.
The changes happened fast. Connor began looking at Emma differently. Furtive glances, sighs, growths, curves, crushes, eventually cries of passion and cries of rage and sorrow.
Within 2 weeks the children had become wolves. The wolves howled and prowled and could not be contained. They broke through the cellar doors and ran into the night air.
When the townspeople caught wind of the wolves a cheer went up through the town. The Great Hunt had begun. They grabbed their guns and headed into the woods.
3 days later the last wolf alive crept unseen back into the house. It was Emma. She had been shot twice. She was bleeding and whimpering. She was also pregnant. She crawled her way to an upstairs bedroom where she lay. She gave birth to two human babies, then died.
The house loved the presence of children. They were the only thing that could satiate its deep, ever malingering loneliness.
The house already had two children when it appeared down the street from Vicki.

It's the scent of your bed that lingers in my head
So i've come to watch you sleep one night more
And the shades of the room dance softly cross the moon
light covered floor, and you i adore.
When we passed by and your scent lingered in my head
and i knew it was you i'd have lived for
If i've had stayed we'd have kissed, but in another world i live
taken long before, but you now i adore.
I adore in the night when dark dreams roar
and a memory stirs, a long lost world
i mourned to long before, la vie, la morte
Long ago there was a babe, and one night the wee folk came
and his scent would trace the room no more
and the world where he'd had grown and the love he would have known
are lost, and you now i adore
I adore in the night when dark dreams roar
and a memory stirs, a long lost world
i mourned to long before, la vie, la morte
I've lived in lands far too strange in your language to explain
and i'll know a place called home nevermore
but ah, the scent of your bed, it lingers in my head
so one night more i watch you and adore

Every year the fairy Kelli would lay silver petals onto the floor of the basement, near the furnace, deep in the Grimehouse.
In years past, when the Grimehouse was just a pleasant field her lover had died there. His wounds were just too grave and as she cradled him and wept he told her to keep vigil and swore he would return to to her one day on this very spot if she would just wait.
So wait she did. She built herself a mound and settled in.
They said that field was haunted and that anyone who tried
to dare and build a thing upon it met ill fate in all due time
Finally a factory of black steel, men and fire
was erected on that spot and roared its smoke into the sky
Workers sweated, died there and some say that if you drop
and ageless girl with wings appears with water, grace and song
One day a young new hire full of pamphlets, full of blaze
talked of unions, revolutions, workers' rights and strikes and pay
Rise up now oh Workers we unite upon this land
the toil of our hands, as comrades we stand]
Rise up now oh Workers side by side we all shall rise
Our dear Union's might will triumph this night
The bosses killed the young man but his books just disappeared
It was Kelli and she read them, every word and shed a tear
After that the men swore when the ageless girl showed up
that now her fist was in the air, she spoke of workers rising up
The Grimehouse Revolution, what a sight it was to see
the bosses hired an army to bring the Workers to their knees
They say it was like magic, like the factory came alive
fought alongside with the Workers and turned the war's fierce tide
Rise up now oh Workers we unite upon this land
the toil of our hands, as comrades we stand]
Rise up now oh Workers side by side we all shall rise
Our dear Union's might will triumph this night
The Factory of the Proletariat lasted decades, but one day plans were made to dismantle it and replace it with a more modern update. After this, it was as if something worked against them. Strange and horrific events began occurring and within a few years the factory was abandoned.
The Grimehouse say untouched for many years until it became a makeshift and secret home for runaway and abandoned children, all of whom swore ther were watched over and protected by an ageless girl with wings.
Some say the fairy Kelli waits in the Grimehouse for her long lost lover to return to her, but this is not true. He did return to her, reincarnated years ago.
He is the Grimehouse itself.

All i ever longed for was a world where i belonged
and something with a smile like your to share it
Though once i could have simply sat and watched the world burn
when we first met i knew that i could bear it
For 1,000 years the changelings in your cradles have been placed
For 1,000 years they do the tasks all gave them
For 1,000 years they carve their sigils in the city's bones
and for 1,000 years the Fae watch and are waiting
And you knew i was different, never fit right in the world
and i knew you were wistful and elated
Together then we spun and wove a story of our own
and for awhile we lived in adoration
For 1,000 years your infants have been softly whisked away
and babes like me are put there as replacements
and onto me it falls the task to carve the very last
sigil that will cause this city's desolation
All i ever longed for was a world where i belonged
and something with a smile like yours to share it
Together we were fairy tales and poetry and wine
until you slept with him and i can just not bear it
I would have saved the world for you, i would have let it go
I would have kept your heart so sweet protected
but now i wonder whether i should carve the final mark
and all that we have loved, it will be ended
All i ever longed for was a world where i belonged
and something with a smile like yours to share it
and i can never not love you so deep with all my heart
but this love for you at last i cannot bear it...
.................
The fall of the great human city of Victoria was the saddest day in its residents' history.
As if some arcane button had been pressed, almost overnight it simply faded away and was replaced by a strange and perplexing place its denizens would refer to as Avalon.

Paul Shapera Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Cama’s attempt to commune with higher beings failed; she only found Decadent Dottie. Together they roamed, indulging in dangerous forms of psycho-neural self-exploration which Cama hoped would present the key to her people’s further evolution. It only led to her destroying her people so that one of their pets could evolve. She sat in her former civilization's rubble and listened to Paul Shapera. ... more
