Welcome to What I Rent, Metro's weekly series where we take you inside someone’s rented home. We look at what they pay each month, who they live with, and what they love and hate about their house or flat.
'With the cost of living skyrocketing, I think I need to weigh up the financial benefits of living with someone else against how much I love my own space.'
'10-11 people live here. There are no common areas apart from the kitchen as everywhere has been turned into a bedroom - I’m surprised the landlord hasn’t tried to put a bed in the kitchen.'
It's important to feel at home, and it's so easy to just paint or fill in holes at the end of a tenancy. Especially in older homes where the walls are all lumpy bumpy anyways.
'Our landlord has been really great about letting us decorate however we want, and she was really clear when we moved in that even though she owns the house, it’s very much our home.'
