Fans of iconic TV sitcom Friends have had their minds blown after spotting what seems to be a gaping plot hole… 30 years after its pilot episode first aired.
And it was in the pilot episode where viewers were first introduced to Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel, thirty years ago – showing up at Central Perk coffee shop in a soaking wet wedding dress.
It’s here that she runs into former schoolmate Monica Geller, along with Monica’s brother Ross, and friends Chandler, Joey and Phoebe.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Fast-forward four seasons, to The One With The Wedding Dresses, which first aired in 1998 as part of the show’s fourth season.
And, as the three women all don wedding dresses in the aftermath of a dress fitting gone awry, Rachel’s episode one dress makes a reappearance… or does it?
Posting to a Reddit thread, a number of viewers debated what they believed to be a plot hole between the two episodes – namely, the show passing off two different wedding dresses as the same item.
Posting a picture of the two wedding dresses side by side, user Netflixis wrote: ‘I know it’s a different dress in real life, but in the SHOW is this supposed to be the same dress?’
‘I always just thought that rachel had kept her wedding dress and this was it!’ exclaimed tobiasfunketheactor in the comments below.
This, in turn, opened up a whole series of wedding dress shaped plot holes throughout the series – not the first time a dress has had fans tumbling down a rabbit hole of debate, either.
‘What drives me nuts is that when Monica is looking at dresses for her own wedding she has one dress on at the store. However when she’s at the discount place she’s holding a totally different dress but then at her apartment when she tries it on and shows chandler it’s back to the one she tried on at the first place,’ wrote Ellie_Bulkeley.
‘am I nuts or the dress Monica tries on in the store and the dress she fights Megan for in the store are different dresses?’ asked nippyhedren.
‘This has ALWAYS bugged me. It was completely different,’ agreed Tasty_Lab_8650.
Last month, fans of the show were battling with an entirely different kind of realisation – of the existential kind.

Along with Rachel’s wedding dress, Elliott Gould and Christina Pickles appeared in the very first season of the show.
And the maths add up too, with Christina turning 59 in 1994, and Elliott 54 – while David is celebrating his 58th birthday next month. Meanwhile, Courteney turned 60 over the summer.
