Amy Dowden may be forced to quit Strictly Come Dancing, according to reports, after she was rushed to hospital when an ambulance was called after Saturday’s show.
The 34-year-old dancing professional was taken to hospital after the live show, with reports saying she felt ‘unwell’.
Amy’s spokesperson said: ‘Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution.’
‘She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected.’
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service also confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital after the show aired.
‘We were called just after 9pm on Saturday to attend a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. An ambulance was sent to the scene. One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care.’
It’s now been claimed Amy may have to quit Strictly, according to reports in The Sun, with uncertainty over who could partner with JB Gill for the rest of the competition.
A source has claimed: ‘Amy was obviously in huge distress. Everyone around her was equally upset because they felt so helpless.
‘JB had to be given a hug. Even the medic who first attended to Amy needed support and consolation. The only thing they could do was try to get her to hospital as quickly and safely as possible.’
Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year and thankfully got the all-clear in February.
During her chemotherapy treatment, the pro dancer kept fans updated on her health.
She has been open about her health struggles, including fertility problems, sepsis, and losing her hair – in BBC documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me.
She has also spoken openly about suffering from a chronic condition, Crohn’s disease, in the past.
Amy told Prima in August that she was thrilled to return to the show, saying: ‘Strictly has changed everything, from the opportunities it’s given me – I’ve got to do tours, travel the world, buy a house, open a dance studio – to the people it’s brought into my life…
‘I’ve been in life-or-death situations, so dancing a one-minute-30-second routine for entertainment isn’t quite the same as walking into chemotherapy.’
The Welsh dancer and JLS star JB scored a 32 from the judges on Saturday night with their foxtrot to Dancing In The Moonlight by Toploader.
The high score earned them plenty of praise with judge Anton DuBeke calling the performance ‘super duper’.
The couple have proven to be a real hit with audiences and judges, but despite topping the leaderboard in week 1, they recently survived a dance-off and avoided going home when Paul Merson and Karen Hauer were eliminated instead.
JB, 37, appeared in the results show on Sunday on his own, and later thanked fans for their support on behalf of Amy.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘On behalf of both @amy_dowden and I, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for voting for us and wishing us well.
‘We absolutely loved our performance on Saturday night and are SO grateful to be through to another week on @bbcstrictly Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support.’
