The war between Russia and Ukraine has been inching closer and closer into Russian territory, as Kyiv continues to strike vital infrastructure behind enemy lines.

Last week, dozens of Russian troops were wiped out after a devastating Kamikaze drone strike on Vladimir Putin’s ‘impenetrable’ arsenal.

A US think tank has now said Russian ammunition depots are a ‘considerable vulnerability’ in the ongoing battle between the two countries.

The Institute for the Study of War wrote: ‘The Russian military’s continued use of known large-scale logistics facilities is a considerable vulnerability that Ukraine could exploit if Western states removed restrictions against Ukraine.’

One of Putin’s biggest worries in the war has been the west allowing the use of western-made missiles to strike Russia.

Ukraine has long been asking for permission to use Western drones to help in its fight against Russia, but the US and UK have held back for fear of escalation.

If the west permits use of the drones and missiles to strike inside of Russian territory, Ukraine could further attack and even wipe out Putin’s ‘Achilles heel’ – his large ammunition depots.

The ISW pointed out that Russia doesn’t make much of an effort to hide the locations of their massive ammunition depots.

Google Maps has shown their locations before, making them easy targets.

‘ISW continues to assess that Western states can degrade Russia’s ability to leverage mass materiel at scale by eliminating restrictions on Ukraine’s use of precision fires in Russia and by forcing the Russian command to partition ammunition depots into smaller and less efficient facilities, some of which will be further away from Ukraine,’ they added.

Three of Putin’s ammunition depots have been heavily damaged in the last month alone.

He issued an extremely dire warning to the West after one of the depot strikes, saying if the US provided westerns-made missiles to Ukraine, it would ‘change the very nature of the conflict’.

He told a state TV reporter: ‘It would mean that Nato countries, the US, European countries, are at war with Russia.

‘If that’s the case, then taking into account the change of nature of the conflict, we will take the appropriate decisions based on the threats that we will face.’
