EastEnders legend Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was in bits in tonight’s episode as Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) made the tough decision to leave Albert Square.

Bobby was left devastated after catching girlfriend Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) kissing his best friend Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) and, with some encouragement from Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), decided to leave the Square.

However, dad Ian didn’t take this news well and decided to do whatever it took to get Bobby to stay.

This started with a trip to Freddie’s house, where Ian fired him from his job at the chip shop, much to the horror of the rest of the Slaters, and insisted that Freddie leave Walford.

Later, he headed over to the Queen Vic to give Anna a piece of his mind, and once again ran into Freddie.

As he tore into him for destroying Bobby, Anna appeared and begged for him to stop.

Unfortunately, it was her turn to face his wrath, as he demanded that she show how much she truly loved Bobby by convincing Freddie to leave London.

As Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) tried to calm him down, Ian emotionally pointed out that he had already lost Steven and Lucy, and he wasn’t prepared to have to say goodbye to another child.

Viewers will know that Steven Beale died from a cardiac arrest in 2017, while Lucy was murdered by Bobby in 2014.

As Ian lamented that nobody understood how he felt, Cindy insisted that she did – though Ian disagreed.

He was quick to point out that she didn’t really know Steven or Lucy and wasn’t there when they died, so she had absolutely no idea what he’d been through.

Anna apologised and promised to stay away from Bobby, but it was all too late, as Bobby later left the Square behind him for good.

Will Ian drop his vendetta against Freddie and Anna, or are things set to remain tense between them in the coming weeks?
