In search of a cheap night out? Head up to West Yorkshire (Picture: Getty Images)

When it comes to financing a night out, there’s so much to think about – from the cost of the taxi, to the drinks, to the kebab van afterwards.

But there’s hope on the horizon yet as there’s one UK city that’s been crowned the cheapest for a night out at just £94 in total (and that’s including a hotel).

Any guesses? It’s Bradford up in West Yorkshire.

Coming in at £52 cheaper than the UK average, this northern location has the most affordable hotel prices per weekend night at £67.

And when it comes to getting about (either before or after you’ve hit the dancefloor), taxi prices also won’t set you back too much as a one-mile journey costs just £3.55.

This figure has actually decreased by 13% over the last two years too, a number which earned it second place for taxi fares specifically.

Also in West Yorkshire, Huddersfield took the crown for the most affordable taxi fares (coming in at £2.87 for a mile-long trip). Overall, the city came in second place with the cost of a night out totting up at £99.

And, if you’d like to get a round in without breaking the bank, Huddersfield also has some of the lowest average alcohol prices, with three pints coming in at £10.05.

So, what makes Bradford the place to be when it comes to nightlife?

Naturally, half the appeal is in the prices. In 2024, the average cost of a pint comes in at £4.35 – which will be music to the ears of most Londoners – but this has actually risen by 45% in the last two years alone.

Nonetheless, locals are still raving about the virtues of what they call ‘Radford.’ Posting in the Bradford Reddit thread, @FCbeard recommended ‘The Corn Dolly, The Exchange, The Sparrow and Sunbridge Wells’ for drinks.

‘The city has so much to offer, you just have to work a bit harder to find it than you might in more affluent places like Leeds,’ the post added. ‘Plus, the architecture is beautiful, even amongst the dereliction.’

These sentiments were backed up by @4FBDO, who wrote: ‘North Parade is good as a whole on a Friday/Saturday, then head down to Juke Bar and back on Darley Street,’ though they noted that there weren’t ‘many clubs unless you like rocking out.’

If you find yourself inspired to explore other nightlife hubs in West Yorkshire, Leeds is right next door – a hub famed for its vibrant scene popular with students.

For an alternative night out, there’s the likes of Brudenell Social Club, The Wardrobe and The Key Club, while Beaverworks and Freedom Mills offer a more traditional club scene.

At the other end of the spectrum, it’ll come as a surprise to precisely no one that London was ranked the most expensive location for a night out in the UK at £351 per night out.

The Big Smoke might be buzzing with thousands of bars, pubs and clubs, but it’s no secret that buying a pint here will set you back more than a few pennies (an average of £6.50 per pint, alas).
