A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder three weeks after a baby was found dead in a house.

The little boy was found dead at a home in Sherwin Road in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, after police were called on the morning of August 27.

The woman, aged 26, and the 25-year-old man, were both arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child on August 30 and released on conditional bail.

They’ve now been arrested again today on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by detectives.

The baby’s family are being supported by specialist police officers, Staffordshire Police said.

Detective Inspector Gina Pope said: ‘This is a distressing incident which will have shocked the local community.

‘We are working to establish the circumstances around the baby’s death.

‘Speculation on social media would be extremely unhelpful and will cause unnecessary distress to those affected by this incident at this already very difficult time.’
