Nineties pop icon Daphne looks totally unrecognisable more than two decades after her hit song was released.

Daphne, 43, real name Karen DiConcetto, is best known as part of pop duo Daphne and Celeste alongside Celeste Cruz, 43.

The singers are best known for their singles Ooh Stick You, U.G.L.Y, and a cover of Alice Cooper’s Schools Out, all of which landed in the top 20 on the UK Singles Chart.

Daphne and Celeste formed in 1999 before splitting in 2002, and briefly reformed from 2015 to 2019.

Twenty-five years since they first hit our airwaves, Karen – aka Daphne – looks unrecognisable as she shares selfies on her social media pages loved up with her partner and her four-year-old son Samir.

She also shared a number of posts in support of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strikes following her career pivot into the world of screenwriting.

Karen has worked as a screenwriter and producer on a number of projects, including 2016’s Recovery Road starring Jessica Sula and Sebastian De Souza.

Celeste, meanwhile, set her sights on acting and has appeared in the likes of 30 Rock, Cupid, and Brooklyn Bound.

Daphne and Celeste rose to fame in 1999 with the release of Ooh Stick You which charted at number eight on the UK Single’s Charts.

They followed it up with U.G.L.Y in 2000 which also broke the top 20, but received some backlash from listeners who felt it promoted bullying.

At the height of their fame, the duo performed at Reading Festival 2000 alongside the likes of Placebo, Rage Against The Machine, and Slipknot – much to the disappointment of disgruntled rock fans.

Crowds bottled the pop singers, who defiantly continued with their set, launching into Ooh Stick You as any number of items, including a wheelchair, were hurled at them.

‘Our biggest fear at the time was that we would get on the stage and no one would come,’ Celeste told The Guardian in 2015. ‘We thought everyone would protest and go off and see bands they actually liked.’

Karen continued: ‘Backstage, Slipknot and Rage Against the Machine were coming up to us and telling us how hardcore we were/ How they wouldn’t have stayed out there. It was definitely the best thing we did, our crowning achievement.’

Corey Taylor confirmed the story in 2020 on the Off Menu podcast, sharing: ‘I was like, “Hey, you did something that a lot of people wouldn’t have done… you stayed in there, so hold your head high”. I don’t know if they f*****g cared what I said, but they did it.’

They split in 2002 before announcing their comeback in 2015 and releasing their second album, Daphne & Celeste Save the World, in 2018 containing singles You and I Alone, BB, and Alarms.
