EastEnders legends Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter revealed why it’s so important for soaps to demonstrate love.

The two icons, who play Patrick and Yolande Trueman, are adored by fans across the country due to their adorable on screen chemistry.

EastEnders fans were stunned to discover that a live episode is returning to celebrate the soap’s 40th anniversary, but this time there’s an intriguing twist – and it involves you, dear reader.

In a soap first, the power of deciding the outcome of one storyline will be bestowed onto the audience.

When asked how they would like the public to decide the outcome of Patrick and Yolande’s relationship at this year’s National Television Awards, Angela told us: ‘Our love life is always in the hands of EastEnders and the fans because we live our lives on the screen.

‘The couple demonstrate that soaps can be very dark so we feel obliged to be ever so lovey dovey.’

When asked what’s next for the adorable couple, they both teased: ‘Ahhh keep watching.’

Yolande’s devastating abuse by Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler) struck a chord with EastEnders fans, who have poured praise onto the actress.  

Yolande suffered a terrifying ordeal when she was sexually assaulted by Pastor Clayton, and recent episodes have seen her open up about what she went through.  

Unfortunately, her hopes of bringing the Pastor to justice were dashed when she was hit with the devastating news that there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him. 

Yolande’s impassioned plea for help bringing the Pastor to justice roused EastEnders viewers, and many have been quick to shower actress Angela Wynter with praise for her performance.  

On X (formerly Twitter), @mattFarris said ‘I’ve run out of words to describe how amazing Angela Wynter’s performances on this show are. This is pure soap opera gold.’

@MitchellWebb85 agreed, saying: ‘Angela Wynter is one of/if not the best soap actresses right now, she is heartbreaking to watch’ 

Another fan said Angela ‘knocked it out the park’ with her latest performance, while others called it ‘powerful’, ‘outstanding’ and ‘incredible’.

Viewers have been so impressed, in fact, that several have called for Angela to win an award. 

@helsby2022 took a strong stance, writing: ‘Phenomenal acting from Angela, if she doesn’t win best actress at the soap awards then eastenders needs to be boycotted’.
