Nutella has been a staple in many kitchen cupboards for years, eaten straight from the jar, spread on toast, or added to bakes.
But fans of the nutty chocolate spread now have a brand new way to enjoy their favourite treat.
That’s because the brand has just launched its very first tubs of Nutella ice cream in the UK — the perfect way to cool down this summer.
The product, made by Ferrero UK, combines the classic flavour of Nutella with smooth whipped hazelnut-flavoured ice cream.
It’s got layers of Nutella on top, the hazelnut-flavoured ice cream is swirled with ribbons of Nutella, and there’s a final Nutella layer at the bottom — meaning you get plenty of Nutella in every scoop.
Shoppers can buy the ice cream already from Morrisons, but there’s a catch… they don’t come cheap. The 470ml tubs cost £5.50 each.
Fans are very excited about the launch, with more than 400 people reacting on the Food Finds UK Official Facebook group. Some branded it their ‘dream’ ice cream flavour, with many in disbelief that it was real, as they’d been hoping for something like it for so long. A few also hailed it a ‘game-changer’.
Nikki Baines commented ‘OMGGGGGG I NEED’, as Ella Bulsara replied: ‘Holy s**t balls.’ Others begged friends to go and find a tub for them. And over on Instagram, @UKNewestFoods said: ‘This is AMAZING!!’
However, some shoppers couldn’t get over the price, with Danny Birkett saying: ‘FIVE POUNDS FIFTY PENCE. WTF.’ Similarly, Paige Thom wrote: ‘What a rip off.’
Danny Cartwright added: ‘That price is mental, it’ll be on offer next week.’ While Marilyn Lindsay agreed, claiming the ice cream was too expensive and Aldi has an own-brand version that’s ‘nicer and cheaper’.
Matt Smith also replied: ‘That can stay in the freezer for that much! I’ll just get cheap vanilla ice cream and add my own Nutella.’
Speaking about the launch, Dani Hayward-Bradley, Regional Marketing Director Ice Cream, Ferrero UK & Ireland, commented: ‘We are thrilled to be adding Nutella Ice Cream to our range.
‘Our dedicated team of experts has spent years perfecting the recipe, and we’re confident that fans will be eager to try the unique Nutella taste and delicious creaminess of our ice cream.’
It’s been a big week for new food launches in the UK, with several popular items making a comeback.
Most recently, Walkers have given crisp fans what they’ve wanted for years, as they launched a new BBQ flavour.
Crisp lovers have been begging for the brand to bring back a BBQ flavour, after discontinuing the classic snack that was first launched in the 90s.
Sold in black packets, the new crisps are called Smokin’ BBQ Sauce and the best part is that you don’t have to wait long to try them, as they are available right now in Tesco supermarkets nationwide.
Sainsbury’s shoppers will be able to get their hands on them from September 2, while in Morrisons the product will be launching in October.
McDonald’s also recently revealed that one of its most popular burgers will be returning to the menu very soon — the Philly Cheese Stack.
The burger contains two beef patties, cheese sauce, two cheese slices as well as grilled and crispy onions and pickles in a toasted bun.
But that’s not all, the Chicken Big Mac will also be back again in September, and for one week only fans will be able to get their hands on the infamous Grimace Shake, a vivid purple milkshake, with a blueberry flavour, that’s topped with cream.
McDonald’s menu changes every six weeks, with the last change coming into force from July 17, so it’s likely we should expect to see these burgers, plus a few other new and returning products back in UK restaurants and on the app very soon.
