After sweltering temperatures earlier this week another heatwave could soon hit the UK.
London and other parts of southern England endured highs of 34C on Monday, on what was the hottest day of the year so far.
Temperatures have since dipped to the mid to low 20s, and forecasts suggested there was little chance of them rising again any time soon.
But, according to Exacta Weather, ‘a major heat surge’ is set to develop from August 20.
James Madden from the forecast channel said: ‘Signals are ever-increasing for the hot to very hot weather to return during late August/later next week and into September.
‘Another hot to very hot period from another high pressure build is now gaining strength for our originally earmarked period to subscribers and our earlier updates for around August 20–25 (particularly around August 25).’
The Met Office, however, has given a more conservative forecast of top temperatures of around 25C for these days.
But James Madden from Exacta weather said: ‘Current projections from elsewhere are seriously underestimating the scale and longevity of this upcoming and prolonged period of predominantly warm to very hot summery weather for many parts of the UK and Ireland.’
For today, meanwhile, the Met Office forecast predicts a largely dry and fine weather in most parts of the UK today heading into the weekend, including in the south and London.
This is good news for fans queueing up for the second Taylor Swift Eras tour concert at Wembley.
Weather on Friday, August 15
However, to get to the decent temperatures and dry weather, a spell of rain moved over the southern parts of England this morning, making it a grey start to the day.
