Eagled-eyed flyers may have noticed that cabin crew staff adopt an unusual position during take-off and landing.

Now a flight attendant has shed light on exactly why this is.

Henny Lim, a crew member with the Philippines-based airline Cebu Pacific, has taken to TikTok to share exactly why staff buckle up and sit on their hands during these particular times.

Sharing on the platform, Henny explains that it’s actually called the ‘bracing position’.

She adds that this position involves fastening seatbelts securely, sitting upright, sitting on hands – arms up, thumbs tucked – with loose arms, and feet flat on the floor.

Henny says in the clip: ‘The aim is to keep the body in a rigid pose so that if there was any impact from an unplanned emergency, the body is damaged less.

‘This keeps body movement restricted so that there is less chance of injury if there was an impact.’

But that’s not it.

Henny also says that during this time of sitting on their hands and adopting a stiff posture, flights attendants will also going through a ‘silent review,’ which prepares them for an emergency situation every take-off and landing.

She continues: ‘This includes being aware of emergency equipment in the location, door operation, commands given and any visual clues outside of the aircraft.’

And it goes without saying that if passengers need to adopt a brace position, the crew will say.

This isn’t the first time flight attendants have given us a snapshot into cabin life.

Last year, another fight attendant went viral for sharing some of her biggest passenger pet peeves, including people cutting their toenails and individuals who put jackets in overhead lockers.

Similarly, a former employee previously told Metro some of the secrets of the job – including how some pilots use their status to get laid and the fact there are secret staff sleeping pods.

Flight attendant reveals how they make your food on planes...

Barbara Bacilieri, who is also a content creator on TikTok (@barbiebac.ok) has shared secrets from the sky about where the food is cooked.

Airplanes don’t have proper kitchens as you may think,’ Barbara, from Argentina, reveals. ‘There is a dedicated area in the galley where we prep the food.

‘But flight attendants are not cooks, we don’t have training on this.’

All the food that you eat on the  plane is cooked in big kitchens near the airport, and they are taken to the aeroplane before every flight.

‘They are stowed in trolleys, and some of them might be refrigerated.

‘The pre-cooked meals are heated during the flight, before the inflight service, in convection ovens.’
